Lightwork was absolutely the album I needed to hear, it's honestly so refreshing and therapeutic with the consistent positivity through the lyrics after the past couple years
Thanks again for sharing! My grandma Annie was a simple (but very loving) little lady, born in 1893. She was christian. She went to church every christmas eve. She said: "God? That is the nature, surrounding us." Asorably wise woerds, in my book. Greetings from the far north of Germany!
I want to say up front that you are my favorite all round music artist and guitar player in the past couple decades. I admire your honest humility in being okay with not knowing all the answers, the need to pull back from the chaos and anger, the widsom of not needing to be right all the time. When I listened to this album, my Christian wordview saw beautiful parallels in many of the tracks. The video for Lightworker, for example was a very powerful display of love that is a lot like the drive of my life’s meaning through Christ. To gather the courage to get past myself and to reach out to other hurting people and guide them to the same fulfillment that gave me so much joy and security in salvation. I know you are very sceptical towards religion, and I understand, I spent much of my life as an athiest. I know many people have suffered because of grifters and ignorant people who think they understand God. The life I have now, though, the pesonal relationship just between Christ and myself gave me hope, meaning, a new life. Its about love deeper than we children can understand, compassion beyond reason, grace given to even the most unforgivable actions. That none should perish, but live with our loving Father who is waiting for us to come home with Him forever through His own sacrifice. I know that it is uncomfortable to hear Christians say this, but it is true, out of love I have prayed for you many times . My hope is that you and your family one day find the same hope and salvation that Jesus had given mine. Whether you read this or not, you will be in my prayers until I pass from this world.
We are on a ball, flying through the universe at amazing speed! We don't know how we got here. We have many theories, but we simply do not know! Life is incredible, isn't it 👌
Thank you, sir. We are ever in your debt for all you have done for us. In case you ever wonder if anyone really fully appreciates what you do, we do. Bless you!
Wonderfully said king! Absolutely loved this and always was a huge fan of you laying it down and telling us your process and observations made along. I think I can speak for a lot of people but I feel we grew alongside you, especially for longtime fans and it's a beautiful thing to see!
Strange to relate but @RailCowGril got me here and glad I am to. Listening to your words I feel a kindred spirit. I will be watching/listening to more.
After a few listens, I started interpreting this song as a personal anthem to agnosticism, so it’s very neat to hear your actual feelings on it! To your comment about whether or not this is the song people need right now, this is the song that I play on repeat whenever I’m looking for inspiration. It’s my favourite song on an album that I already love. Thank you!
I really hope you will do this series also for Nightwork, if you feel like talking about those songs, too! It was so fascinating and inspiring to hear your thought process behind these songs and I could relate to a lot of them. This one especially was my favourite episode, I have sooo many thoughts about what you said here, I could probably fill a book with them. Thank you for sharing this with us, Devin! ❤️ Lightwork and it's message came at the perfect time for me. Thank you!
Lightwork is in my top 3 of all the albums you’ve created. I’m glad I got the box set with the art book, looks great on my shelf. Thanks a lot for another fantastic piece of entertainment!
Beautifully articulated my friend. Lightwork is truly my favorite record of yours. Thank you for really showing your heart and soul on this one. Blessings to you and your family.
Thanks for the insights on the album, it's fun for us fans. Great job with this album, it feels pretty special. I was also one of the people that was in tears by the time Lightworker & Equinox started 😂. Yeeep, past couple years have been a little weird 🙃
The way the lighting contrast bleeds into the frame at 06:35 is a rather wonderous inadvertent (?) MK ULTRA lighting effect. I've never seen that before on YT ...G...
[Ziltoid] Modular forms and elliptic curves! Infinite fire revolving around infinite parallels, fractals of infinite reality, each cascading, gliding in an infinite wheel. Tell me the true nature of my reality! [Creator] You gotta chill, man...
That was really cool Devin. Those of us that aren’t busy yelling at the other side and trying to not be right all the time share in some of the thoughts that you’ve expressed. Mastery is finding solace in the midst of chaos. ☺️
I know Devin isn't probably going to read this but I'm so glad he did the album the way he did, letting go of the anger because there is too much of it around. I can't think of a *more* opportune time for this beautiful album to come out
Your right there Dev , I've found myself listening too darker bands than say I would of before lockdown...but saying that I love light work as I take it as your work and where your at and as a fan we know that's what we get...as many I'm pulled towards factions but guess that's just oldskool me hanging to my syl days haha...bring on Manchester , can't wait too hear call of the void live
This reminds me of a number of things you may be interested. Anything by St Augustine. "Until We Have Faces" by CS Lewis. "Peace Of Soul" By Venerable Fulton Sheen. There are a lot.
Solving the unsolvable I'm afraid. How deep does it go? I had a friend, who had similar thoughts. He went insane. Being trapped in one's own head is a scary situation. It's a masochistic behavior in some sort I guess. But I welcome your honest insight of your songs and not pretending to be mysterious. You're an honest musician.
People often forget music is a 2 way experience, Artists write and perform and express there thoughts or feelings in a song / record and put it out to the world, It is not solely for the public (of course it has benefits of money and fame and recognition) There is of course exceptions, those who will look at the path of what can I do to make myself famous and rich but I would say the vast majority of “artists” have a need to create and show the world what they have created. I respect any path you take to choose Devin, will all of it be my cup of tea? No of course not, but I am not going to sit here and demand more Detox etc because it will be false and forced. Joe Public has got very vocal and demanding since the internet, Having a direct line to artists that they can choose to praise or abuse without proper knowledge of how hurtful this can be and not knowing the state of a artists mind, Probably already full of self doubt in what they have produced. If you like it, buy it, support it in its live performance and share it with friends, if you don’t, it’s simple move along and get on with your day.
Majority of Atheist I know, including myself, come to terms with a firm understanding, that we don’t know everything - nor is it our job to do so. I think there’s a feeling of freedom or relief that comes along with that.
I used to be atheist, then I realized it is also a belief. Atheists believe there's no God, as religious people believe there is a God. I chose to not believe anything, (which is not the same as believing in nothing). I only know some things to a greater degree of certainty than others.
There is one more that is very topical, but I can't remember his name. Saint's name that begins with a B, semi-contemporary to St Aquinas. Very influential on buddhists when they were exposed to Catholicism.
We are children of God through the Son of God, Jesus the salvation of those he calls and his heart is that none shall perish. Seek Him and he will reveal himself to you amen. Shalom be with you
The concept of God to me is philosophical. Philosophy is the discussion of a question which CANNOT be answered. Theology is people who think they have the answer. Cognitive dissonance follows too closely
This is why I love Devin's music so much. He really creates from the soul.
Lightwork came out at the perfect time. People needed it. I needed it. To be reminded. To be true to myself and everyone else.
Easily one of my favorite songs! I remember my university prof sharing Ziltoid with us around 2010 and I’ve loved Townsend’s work ever since!!!
It’s what I wanted to hear and I’ve been hooked for days now. Thank you Devon.❤
We'll be here all day if I name them all.
These videos have been absolutely fantastic. These songs have so much more depth and insight than I originally thought

Another championship for Devin on this album
What I want to hear is what I need to hear. Lightwork delivered at the right time

I love this album with my whole heart.
Wonderful explanation. Excellent song to finish the album.

Close to, if not Devy's best
Nightwork track by track please! Precious Sardine in particular is such a trippy song

Beautiful song, beautiful explanation. Thanks Dev :)
Love you man 💖
I'm so so so glad he has a problem with the word God, as I also do, however knowing this, makes it easier to hear in the song!
That was really cool Devin. Those of us that aren’t busy yelling at the other side and trying to not be right all the time share in some of the thoughts that you’ve expressed. Mastery is finding solace in the midst of chaos. ☺️

I would love to see Devin being interviewed by someone like Lex Fridman.
It would be such a great conversation.
Children of Dog from disc 2 is so good. I have a hard time listening to the Lightwork version because I love Dog so much lol
Solving the unsolvable I'm afraid. How deep does it go?

Video description seems to be saying there will be a video for nightwork

Do you know that you don't know? If you know , so we know at least one thing dear Devin
There is one more that is very topical, but I can't remember his name. Saint's name that begins with a B, semi-contemporary to St Aquinas. Very influential on buddhists when they were exposed to Catholicism.
7 Trumpets or 10 Trumpets...regardless of the choice, or the symbolism.....the ending makes me want to touch a lighthouse and call out the angels
Is children of Dog a Cardiacs reference?
Thank you for spoiling the ending to Lord of The Flies. I probably should thank myself for never fully reading the book all my 49 years.
🙏🏻😘💖
St Therese Of Lisieux would be another obvious one. Or St Mary Of Egypt (the first Nun) or any other female Doctor of The Church.
I always enjoy Devin's breakdown of each song. I miss his podcasts during COVID. Religion is man made, glad I got far away from it.
what we need to hear is Jesus Christ. You have a platform to provide real life and truth that could change many many lives.
Perhaps Children Of All, or Children Of Wonder would have been apt titles as well
The title the artist came up with is fine, there's no need to censor it.
@@BruceKCobos I don't see this answer as censoring. Just ideas.

If you say "God", a lot of people will jump to the conclusion you are taking about "their" God... strange...

The fact that you have to apologize for using the word “God” is sad. Blessings to all. 🤘
