It is amazing how people watch some videos and you teach them some thing very nice and they give you a dislike why do they watch in the first place. Great work
Dig it, love them Kennedy boxes. They are like snap on but for machinists. A wooden hinge instead of that piano hinge would be the only change. I have been day dreaming about making a Gerstner style toolbox to replace my laptop briefcase
Love how this looks! You always give just the right amount of detail in your explanations. I don't need a full step-by-step but I do like zooming in on specific aspects of a project to show how they're done. This was just about perfect for me. And hey, if this YT thing doesn't work out, you can always be an IG underwear model. You and Ben Uyeda. 😁 Thanks for sharing!
my dad passed a couple of weeks ago. He spent most of his life with greasy hands, and was a talented if still beginner woodworker. I’m in about the same boat and I’m planning a memorial wooden toolbox. For his wife now, and maybe his granddaughter eventually. Filled with things like pictures, fishing reels, written memories, pocket knives.
Nice box for tool sharpening equipment. I have an old Snap On cantilever I use for my camper tool kit. It's heavy but it always seems to have what I need when something breaks. My very first box was a Kennedy box. I worked for an ambulance supply company. Back in the 70s and 80s ambulances all used Kennedy boxs. They were well built and fairly priced.
Kennedy is kind of legendary as far as tool boxes go. They are kind of the king of machinist's tool chests. been around for ages. I don't know about modern ones, but there are ones out there being used by second, even third generation machinists and other tradesmen. Great job on the beautiful box!
David this turned out very beautiful. I also love this design. Can't wait to see ur videos. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work David. Keep making. God bless.
Watching this channel evolve from the iteration that it was with kind of a straight forward look at woodworking projects to these popping rock ‘n roll music video style videos while still maintaining the helpful knowledge is so inspiring. I am an amateur woodworker with no aspiration for making videos, just a love for the craft ad how it gets me out of my head for awhile. My girlfriend and I watch your videos almost every night and she has no interest in woodworking. Thank you and keep ‘em comin’!
We have three Kennedy boxes and they are great. Very sturdy if you don't mind carrying the weight. I believe my Dad bought the first two in the late 70s & I picked one up at an auction.
David, you are one hot underwear model. Please, don't abandon woodworking for the fashion runway. I look forward to and need your videos each and every week. I suggest that you allow 'Dangerous Dan' to take your place and have the modeling gig. I'm sure that you could get another camera man! This was a great video. I loved it. To quote D.P., "It was friggin' cool." Honestly, it was one of my all time favorites. There was always one of these cantilevered tool boxes in the trunk of my dad's 4 door '54 Mercury and there was a friggin' lot of stuff in that box. Thanks for the project video, David. You are the best!
Maybe you could attach some ribbons or chains to the drawer and the lid so when you open the lid it pulls the drawer out. That way you could experiment with some tape and not have to damage the lid with a bunch of holes. Cool build!
There were some great little techniques working here, from the box joint jig to getting perfectly aligned holes in the drawer hinges using another drill. Good work, look great!
I believe that the Kennedy tool box company was started in Van Wert Ohio in the early 1900s. I think that their factory is still in operation there. They make some of the best tool boxes made. Very nice project David, keep up the great work.
My dad was a Glazer in the 70s. I have an original Kennedy like that full of his tools. Was a common tool box for the Glazers. Not sure who else used them. But Kennedy makes a full line of Machinist tool boxes.
It looks pretty cool! To automatically open the drawers: maybe you could fasten a leather strip in the middle of the drawer to the inside of the lid, in the opened position? Closing it would then probably also go "automatically".
I'm listening to Making It Episode 320, and your description of this underwear ad sounded so funny I went out of my way to figure out which video it was in by roughly matching publishing dates. Did not disappoint!
Freaking awesome David!! I know my dad would've loved something like this. Suggestion, what about a small chain to get the drawers to open with the lid instead of that bracket? All that's needed would be to open the lid to the desired position, pull the drawers out, then just mount the chain link to pull the drawers open once it reaches that spot.
Camera shot backing away from the bandsaw was mint! Idk lighting and everything made me think “this new editing style on this video is perfect”. Love where you’re headed!
You really outdid yourself this time, dude. You should do that more often: redo metal objects in wood. I really enjoyed this build. Wish I owned such a beautiful object like that. You rock!
This looks amazing. I'm a aircraft mechanic and I made a wooden tool box with cut out foam etc. Made it to my needs. I got a lot of good comments on it.
Whoa... This is so cool. I've been anxiously waiting to see this project since you've been taking about it on the podcast. Happy to see that it turned out great!
😆 😄 🤣 David I'm guessing that Step one is the sponsor of this video as you never actually mentioned it in the clip?. I can't ever recall laughing so much at a video sponsor before watching this video, you completely took me by surprise with this one 🤣. As for doing the talk through about the product it was made every bit funnier by the fact that said model was wearing a T-shirt like a croptop let alone using a powertool in there aswell 😄 brilliant 👏 and very catchy. If Step one don't love it there's something wrong with the company. Well done!!! . As for the toolbox 🧰 just very little to be said about it other than the words...Brilliant and a Fantastic job. Honestly I just love how good this whole toolbox 🧰 turned out and I don't think I'm the only person who thinks this either. Fantastic project and something that you can actually use for many years to come!!! As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Loved this. Gotta wrap my mind around the geometry basics then going to attempt one. I’d like a cool looking box to carry spoon carving supplies with me. I like to do that as a stress reliever and whatnot and would like something to keep in the truck for whenever an opportunity presents itself. Would be light years ahead of the Dewalt tool bag I use now. Great work as always, you have inspired me greatly over the years. I rarely copy a design but I’m always trying to emulate the passion.
Great build, David! Good call on lids not being attached to the Drawers. They would likely put too much stress on the drawers since it's wood and much heavier.
A small strip of leather from the middle of the tray, to the lid, would give you the opening characteristics you are looking for. Do the initial trials with low temp hot glue, it scrapes off of hard wood easily. Final it with a thick wood glue, like elmers, that crap dries fast, and is a very good bond on most leathers.
For the automatic opening, try using a chain. it will flex some so you don't need to have perfect hole placement, but it will still open the drawers too!
You can put some thin tools (if tools are what the box is for), like a ruler or pencils in little lether pockets on the lids. That way you use that space and also you can say you designed it to open independently. Win-win. Sorry for the grammar and thank you for the content.
That looks awesome! I’ve been thinking about what kind of toolbox I want to make for my woodworking hand tools. I’m just getting started so I don’t have many but I want something I can grow into and this looks almost perfect for what I need. Thanks for sharing!
Me, watching the underwear ad: Not sure if serious. Tool box is really slick! Really nice job and great video. My favourite part: fixing your error with some contrasting wood which actually enhances the piece. You could have just said it was intentional and no one would have known.
Dude you killed it that looks sick! I really like what you did with the contrasting wood and that trick you used for the drill press was pretty epic I’ll definitely remember that.
1. The toolbox came out phenomenal/beautiful. 2. I almost spit out my coffee laughing when the shot of the sweaty body in underwear holding a circ saw came on. the screen.
I wrinkled my nose a bit when I heard you talk about this on the podcast. What’s fantastic piece you made! By the way, Kennedy is still made in Van Wert, OH.
I've been anxiously awaiting this from the rumblings from the podcast. came out better than i could have imagined!
Classic Make Something: Antique mall, check! Kencraft, check! Walnut, Check! Love how it turned out! Well done on challenging yourself!
Thank you!
It is amazing how people watch some videos and you teach them some thing very nice and they give you a dislike why do they watch in the first place. Great work
Dig it, love them Kennedy boxes. They are like snap on but for machinists.

One of the cooler videos you’ve made! Great work!

Another beautiful project Mr. Picciuto. Since I will have more time and and abundance of walnut trees, I will start making some wooden tools.
Thank you kind sir! Enjoy all that well deserved free time!

Awesome film, love the commercial. Tool box is dope! Like how lids open all the way. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂🐒
Kennedy is kind of legendary as far as tool boxes go. They are kind of the king of machinist's tool chests. been around for ages. I don't know about modern ones, but there are ones out there being used by second, even third generation machinists and other tradesmen. Great job on the beautiful box!

🙏 thank you!
What a great and beautiful rendition of a machinists classic Kennedy toolbox!
We have three Kennedy boxes and they are great. Very sturdy if you don't mind carrying the weight. I believe my Dad bought the first two in the late 70s & I picked one up at an auction.
You guys are very cool with modern machine skills
David, you are one hot underwear model. Please, don't abandon woodworking for the fashion runway. I look forward to and need your videos each and every week. I suggest that you allow 'Dangerous Dan' to take your place and have the modeling gig. I'm sure that you could get another camera man!

Thanks for the project video, David. You are the best!
Now that is a beautiful toolbox
You should be proud of this one. I love everything about it. You truly do inspire and I consider this a piece of art.
Thank you!
Maybe you could attach some ribbons or chains to the drawer and the lid so when you open the lid it pulls the drawer out. That way you could experiment with some tape and not have to damage the lid with a bunch of holes. Cool build!
Great idea!
This was my initial thought as well as soon as you mentioned the slots in the strap you made.
Please let us know in one of the next uploads. Like a quick heads up :)
There were some great little techniques working here, from the box joint jig to getting perfectly aligned holes in the drawer hinges using another drill. Good work, look great!
GLORIOUS PURPOSE!
I love the little crispy strip of maple in there!
I believe that the Kennedy tool box company was started in Van Wert Ohio in the early 1900s. I think that their factory is still in operation there. They make some of the best tool boxes made. Very nice project David, keep up the great work.
Best. Ad read. Ever. Project awsome too.
Good job. You can also use a kind of spring to open the drawers together with the tape.
That is an absolutely gorgeous piece of craftmanship! Love it!
Very cool David. This makes me want to visit the antique store
My dad was a Glazer in the 70s. I have an original Kennedy like that full of his tools. Was a common tool box for the Glazers. Not sure who else used them. But Kennedy makes a full line of Machinist tool boxes.
Really cool project and video. The shop looks great. This is my favorite Make Something video. Great job!
That Kennedy tool box was made in my home town. The now make the Cornwell toolboxes too. That thing should last forever
That looks like a ton of fun to make and is almost too pretty to use.
It looks pretty cool!
To automatically open the drawers: maybe you could fasten a leather strip in the middle of the drawer to the inside of the lid, in the opened position? Closing it would then probably also go "automatically".
Future Grandpa David garage find for the grandkids. Great Stuff Sir.
We still have my Dad’s tackle box. Works like a charm. Never thought of making a wooden version. An interesting project.
When I first read ur post I thought you were talking about the pant ad😂
I'm listening to Making It Episode 320, and your description of this underwear ad sounded so funny I went out of my way to figure out which video it was in by roughly matching publishing dates.
Did not disappoint!
Haha! Thanks!!
@@MakeSomething Hey Dave, I shot you a message on Instagram with a quick question (same handle), is there a way you'd rather be contacted?
Copying this complicated box is possible with your detailed explanation and information. I wish for success. :) :) :)
Absolutely great! Also I love your music! Upbeat!!
David, you did an excellent job on reproducing that tool box~! Beautiful work~!
I really like the toolbox. Using the drill bit to keep your hole spacing correct on the brackets was a great idea.
Thank you! Good eye!
Awesome project David!
regardless weather the trays move automatically or manually, that is an awesome job :D keep it up
This is just plain awesome!
This is an outstanding video David… camera work on this one is incredible!! One of the best if your catalog!
One of my favorite projects you've done! I loved the ad too haha
Freaking awesome David!! I know my dad would've loved something like this. Suggestion, what about a small chain to get the drawers to open with the lid instead of that bracket? Camera shot backing away from the bandsaw was mint! Idk lighting and everything made me think “this new editing style on this video is perfect”. Love where you’re headed!
Haven't seen you make a bad project yet. This came out beautiful and fully functional as far as I'm concerned.
I think this was the first ad I looked forward to before the video came out.
You really outdid yourself this time, dude. You should do that more often: redo metal objects in wood. I really enjoyed this build. Wish I owned such a beautiful object like that. You rock!
Im 3 plus minutes into watching this vid, and I gotta stop and just say... Seriously... DUDE! This is one beautiful tool box. Awesome job.
That's a really beautiful tool box!
Very cool project! I love these type of tool boxes and you nailed it!
Oh yeah. I like that the drawers stay in place until you move them. So many times some random thing gets stuck and you can’t open one side of the lid.
hmm, haven’t even thought of that. maybe another happy accident. Thanks Phil!
I may not make this toolbox, but I definitely got some great ideas. Thanks David!
Love this! The Kennedy is a great box.
This looks amazing. I'm a aircraft mechanic and I made a wooden tool box with cut out foam etc. Made it to my needs. I got a lot of good comments on it.
Great job, nevermind the opening, now you can add some small tool holders in the lidd, maybe for drills. Love the final look 👍🏻🇩🇰💪🏻
Whoa... This is so cool. I've been anxiously waiting to see this project since you've been taking about it on the podcast. Happy to see that it turned out great!
Love it! Great job..of course.

Oooh that turned out gorgeous! I am a sucker for toolboxes and I collect them… they’re just such a cooo thing to have and look at and use…
David, that’s so beautiful
That was better than you described it in MakingIt! Awesome! The tool box is amazing too…
Awesome, looks great!!
looks great....one could also use the space in the 'cover' for storage
Those Kennedy tool boxes used to be made in Van Wert Ohio. I loved mine and even had a little three wheeled cart to haul it around on.
Fantastic job!
Loved this. Gotta wrap my mind around the geometry basics then going to attempt one. I’d like a cool looking box to carry spoon carving supplies with me. That is so cool Dave! My head would explode if I tried to figure that all out!
That is an AWESOME toolbox David! well done
Thats definitely a Picciuto Toolbox Posh Work....👌

Firstly let’s address the elephant in the room. That ad read was the funniest one I’ve seen! The toolbox is gorgeous!
For the automatic opening, try using a chain. it will flex some so you don't need to have perfect hole placement, but it will still open the drawers too!
I had stop podcast to come watch this video great work!!
That's beautiful
That’s outstanding!👏👏
Very cool as always

Kennedy has been around forever. They used to be a favorite of machinists. Very nice
Out of van wert ohio. Close to toledo.
Also, I found the box on Amazon. $143.00
That ad shout out was hilarious lol. Might try em though
Hide yo hinges Dave, hehe. Very cool, as always.
came out great,
That looks awesome! I’ve been thinking about what kind of toolbox I want to make for my woodworking hand tools. I’m just getting started so I don’t have many but I want something I can grow into and this looks almost perfect for what I need. Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding.
Excellent! There is nothing you can’t do!👍👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Believe you me David, as someone with a more artistic mind I appreciate the effort you put in to the mechanism of the toolbox! Awesome job brother😃
Me, watching the underwear ad: Not sure if serious. Tool box is really slick! Really nice job and great video. My favourite part: fixing your error with some contrasting wood which actually enhances the piece. You could have just said it was intentional and no one would have known.
Beautiful.
Really cool project nice job david
Kennedy boxes are machinist boxes I see them all the time up in michigan
Man, i couldn't stop staring at his...saw😜
You pull off some great builds when you get inspiration from the antique mall!
Dude you killed it that looks sick! I really like what you did with the contrasting wood and that trick you used for the drill press was pretty epic I’ll definitely remember that.
Very nice job 👍
1. The toolbox came out phenomenal/beautiful.

So good!!!
