- In this video, I'm excited to take you on a creative journey as I delve into the process of building a series of abstract artworks. Over the course of a couple of days, I'll be tapping into my intuition and sharing my techniques with you.

Loved this-thanks for letting us sit a while and watch over your shoulder. I did acrylics for 5 years and the picked up warmer color for 5. I get itchy to get back to acrylics when I watch you. I loved being able to push around the paint and work BIG!. Tougher to do in watercolor but not impossible. Have a good week. ❤

I love watching and listening to your process. Thanks for inviting us into your experience. A lot of artists online seem to be seeking looseness, but what that looks like in the end is very personal and covers a broad spectrum of outcomes. I wonder what would happen if you made yourself change to using one or two colors that you never use. Not a criticism, because I like your work.

Fantastic. Thank you for sharing so much of how you do what you do. And these works you are doing are exciting! One question? Do any of the acrylics that you use smell? I don't like oils for the reason they smell but recently used some acrylics are reacted negatively to them - and they did smell. They were made in China (but a local Indonesian brand).
Hi, I use an Australian brand called Matisse (company name is Derivan) and it has no odor at all. So I would suggest trying a few different brands to see which one works best for you?

Keep your inspiration up on the wall. Keep doing what you love. Take advice only from people whose work you know and love.
Hi Claire, your works are amazing. Maybe a suggestion to get you away from what you previously painted and to move to an exercise in abstract is to not have a planned or formal composition. Just mark-making and spatial composition with no trees, landscapes, flowers, etc. And if you add the trees, etc., make it more etherial in feel and look. I loved the layering and color mixes that brought the pieces alive in abstract in "round 2". In the final round, the pieces are stunning but most of the abstract seemed to be taken back out.
I agree. It's so hard to do abstract when you have always painted with an idea of the result you expect.
Claire needs to take away those artworks on the wall and just slow down and feel instead of being in her head.
Abstract for me has no intention and just feeling.
Hi Claire, you are a fabulous artist but with abstract art.....
I find less is more.
Some place for the eye to go to....a main point of reference and where you want they eye to move around the painting with ease, without being bombarded with too much going in every corner.
Abstract art for me has limited thought and intention.
It is based on feelings and emotion.
I watch other teachers about how to harness feeling, and to slow down massively.
Come back to your art the next day and alter what you think needs quietening or to add some block of colour.
I realize this is all new to you.
Its like starting something very alien.
Orla Stevens, an irish abstract artist is good to watch her process.
Bob Blast, (American), has some great ideas on abstract art and feelings, like creating tension or movement or points of interest.
It's actually quite hard to achieve a satisfying or good work of abstract art.
You don't need those paintings in front of you....they are a distraction from your own self-expression.
Remember no intention or expectations.....let mark making come from within.....sounds hippie, but you have always painted with composition and what you want it to look like as a finished art work.
I dare you to only use 3 or 4 colours, otherwise it gets muddy...and no trees or straight lines.
Also paint with your other hand or blind folded.
Practice not thinking, which is hard....play music and make shapes with sounds.
