Just walked through on my way home from work. Dead, full of down and outs freaks and weirdos. Looks like you caught this on a quiet Sunday morning maybe. Town centre is finished and certainly doesn't belong to the locals anymore. That's for sure.
At one time of day, the market place was thriving, fabulous place to shop for just about anything you could think of from fresh breads, cheeses, meats through to plants, flowers, clothes and everyday essentials. The many independent shops offered great choices too. It was a busy town with lots to offer. Now (in my opinion) it is full of cheap shops, empty shops, boarded up places, multitude of pubs and cheap drinking holes, fast foods, phone shops, vape shops and not much else...except the host of doorway huggers, people down on their luck, those with addictions and during non covid times, streets where vomit dodging becomes an art form. Such a tragic shame, another great British town lost forever.
You're right. I loved the market and all the characters, I especially remember the china stall where they'd put on an a great show to attract the punters, throwing the plates around and with a 'patter' better than most 'entertainers' on tv nowadays. Then there was the lovely smell of Armitage's sweet stall and the fruit and veg sellers pitching bargains and washing locally grown celery, not to mention Britain's best fish market - including the cow heal and tripe stalls. . . . . folks who don't like tripe have never tried it done right! The there was Leesings near the market for the most delicious hot roast pork sandwiches - mmm. A great town.
Thanks for sharing this. It was pure nostalgia for me. I lived in Doncaster for eight months in 2009/10 as a foreign language assistant. Best 8 month of my life so far :) and seeing the town all bright and sunny was very lovely.

@@GimbalWalkTV Thank you for the video, you did a great job! I live on the outskirts of Doncaster. i saw this movie about Doncaster and compared it to another about the same town in the 60'. Absolutely unrecognizable. Where have gone all that activity, the people , the transport activities, the many shops, instead of children you see pesioners and strangers. the old traditional building repaced by mega-boxes. modern towns and cities are dying, like in all of UK and western countries.
Doncaster has a very mixed town centre. Some of it, especially around Cleveland Street and the Waterdale Centre is ugly, but equally a lot of it is lovely. Frenchgate since it was extended is very nice. Further out, there is the lovely little town of Bawtry, and Tickhill is also nice. What's sad though is the empty shops, and big voids like Debenhams that will be hard to fill.
When the southern bus station closed it effectively killed that area of the town centre, waterdale died and any business around the area also. It was such a shame to see
def. not back to normal yet in Doncaster are they, looks like a ghost town. Thanks for sharing. I live in Salford, you could do a walk around Salford Quays which has plenty to see :)
You missed out more of waterdale if you walk up wood street then you will see more beautiful views and the trains station. There is also lakeside and belle Vue. Honestly Doncaster are making so many new big changes
A long time since I was last in Doncaster. An old friend's settled there, it'll be good to meet up again - once we're over this Covid business. - The sign/slogan on the wall? There's an important word linking the others. Go see, if you missed it.
O/ hi im 22 born and raised here in doncaster :) there are a lot of "secret" hideaway places that arent remembered anymore... its a shame really doncaster doesnt get the respect it deserves because of the local kids but ah well i suppose all areas have people like that
Ahh my best friend is moving to Doncaster which is like hours away from where I live and I feel bad she’s gotta move there by the reviews of people saying it’s not the best place to live in ?
Doncaster is a shit hole with drugs gangs all over more shootings 8n last year that there's been in over ten years its crazy. Only this moring there's bene a dead body found in town centre of an 18 year old. Very toguht place to grow up n not alot of money about very poor ppl

Thanks Aiden - that really is appreciated
i saw this movie about Doncaster and compared it to another about the same town in the 60'. Absolutely unrecognizable. Where have gone all that activity, the people , the transport activities, the many shops, instead of children you see pesioners and strangers. the old traditional building repaced by mega-boxes. modern towns and cities are dying, like in all of UK and western countries.
Looks great, love the fact that there are plenty of beautiful trees in the main shopping area. THX
You're welcome!
I live in doncaster and theres a stayium
True

Are u sure you didnt catch your reflection in a mirror.....im i proud Doncastrian...up the Rovers!!!
I often do!
On your travels...How about Hartlepool in Cleveland? With some more Brill muzak... Ta muchly...
Yes so true
I wonder what will replace them
When the southern bus station closed it effectively killed that area of the town centre, waterdale died and any business around the area also. It was such a shame to see
Ah no - that's not good
Are there any plans to redevelop and grow the centre?
Zigger zagger zigger zagger Don-ca-ster
Lived here all my life, its a shothole and had got even worse since you filmed it.

I was born in donny. Now I am living here with a job. Love it love Donny.
You missed out more of waterdale if you walk up wood street then you will see more beautiful views and the trains station. There is also lakeside and belle Vue. Honestly Doncaster are making so many new big changes
Definitely! I'm back shortly to film a more indepth one
The best part of Doncaster is the way out
Nice video, but you missed Waterdale,'Culteral quarter',and The Girls on Thorne road on the Beat.
Aye 👍
A long time since I was last in Doncaster. An old friend's settled there, it'll be good to meet up again - once we're over this Covid business. - The sign/slogan on the wall? There's an important word linking the others. Go see, if you missed it.
I think I missed it - going to look again now

O/ hi im 22 born and raised here in doncaster :) there are a lot of "secret" hideaway places that arent remembered anymore... its a shame really doncaster doesnt get the respect it deserves because of the local kids but ah well i suppose all areas have people like that
They do - every place I visit and film all have their good places and not so good parts
I live there now and it’s not that nice 😅😂
Doncaster people dont' seem to be very postive about their town centre Moad.Is it that bad?
@@GimbalWalkTV yes. It's crowded, smell like weed, pee and smoke in some areas
@@lilly.kaitlyn oh no!!
Used to be one of the best markets in the Country.
Well, that was my hometown walk... huh... well it's full of Barbers, Pound/Discount Shops, Bars, Pubs, fastfood and a few nightclubs... huh...
Part two coming soon - editing it as we speak - includes lots more and nicer areas
@@GimbalWalkTV Problem is when I was a kid/teenager most of those bits you showed were the nice bits lol! But I do look forward to it; for me your taking the tour so I never have to go back lol. I'll stick to Brid being my home town from now on :)
@@MrMightymind I can't blame you there Paul!
