I pre-ordered this after watching the playthrough you guys did. Glad to see the high scores but what you showed in the playthrough all looked really good.
I just can't help but feel that so much of the charm in Clank! comes from the simplicity. This looks like it adds a lot of complexity and "clunkiness" and I am not really convinced it is worth it. It is a shame though, cause I was so extremely hyped for an expansion for this game as I would love more tiles and just more stuff in general, but I am not really sure this one is it for me.
09:07 I was incorrect taught the tile was always placed at random, didn't find out the actual rules until 4-5 games later. I noticed we played much more conservative when all tiles were random so I think it was a good call not to add for every tile and still giving some element of choice.
hope they bring catacombs to digital. pre-ordered the expansion but nothing beats being able to play fast whenever you want without having to set up or manage things
There's a lot of free space in the base box, and this doesn't add anything that big. It looks like you can easily fit this in. EDIT: Here's what's in the expansion: 12 new tiles, 50 new cards, and 5 wooden tokens for the monsters.
I'm surprised I hear so many fans saying Catacombs is the de-facto way to play. While I definitely enjoy the exploration, I'm still picking up map boards for the original clank because they're just as fun to explore today as they would have been when they first came out. I would also argue that the original deck of cards is much better than the catacombs deck. I can't say what I'm not a fan of off the top of my head, but I remember not loving the Catacombs deck as much.
I agree. I like the originals better. I find with catacombs, it takes longer for the depths to feel dangerous with the dragon cube pulls. The game seems to drag on a little more than I would like.
@@LindsayHastings-t4x Yeah, agreed. Thinking about it more, it may have been the higher skill cost on the cards in the catacomb deck that I didn't care for.
Having fixed maps sucks. You know exactly where all the artifacts are and what the optimal path is. It also leads to people grabbing the first artifact and racing out.
@@alcovitch I've never had anyone grab an artifact and run out, but I suppose that's fair if you play with a-holes. 🤣 And I would argue seeing the entire map brings more strategy into the game rather than randomness.
yeah i still like the original one better also. but this expansion is cool i might consider grab it. also, grab the first artifact and run out is not a good stradegy, because essentially you lose quite a few turns doing nothing while the dungeon still have plenty to offer for others. so it only happened once or twice when we first got the game and quickly realized that. if you are playing with new player, would also be odd to not tell them some tips and advise.
Now if they add a way to go into the underground in the next expansion they’ll have all the best stuff from DungeonQuest. Or Drakborgen and Drakborgen II to be more exact. :)
I can see why people enjoy this more than "traditional" Clank, but after watching the playthrough, I'm not sold on tile-based Clank for myself. It has enough randomness with its deck that I like to be a little more planned ahead. I dunno, just feels oddly more generic, less flavorful to me. Not saying no one should like this: it seems really well realized. It just probably won't be on my shelf as the way to play Clank

great review. Roy has really grown as a reviewer. Happy to see him get to be in front of the camera a bit more.

I guess I need to look into this now. Played Clank!: Catacombs just the other day.

But can you eat the living statue? I hear they taste like shellfish.

Does it fit in the base box easily?

The base box has so much empty space dude
I can confirm there is plenty of room. I just tucked all of Lairs & Lost Chambers into my base Catacombs box without any issues.
This is the question we need answers to
Yes but you'd probably have to remove the insert
Playing with the adventuring party would be so fun
I wish this video came out earlier so the preorder free card was still available. But great game. Love more stuff for it
I need that shirt, Roy! Where can I find one?
...and this expansion.

Looks like more Clanky goodness from Dennen. Not too sure about the glasses though Tom!
I have Clank! Basegame and 4 expansions. I wonder if the new clank is so much different that i need to jump on this as well.

I am glad I pre-order this. Sadly I am not going to play it any time soon :/
Ok, it's time to get Catacombs.
¿Para cuándo en español?

Sounds like the introduction of the pits may slow the game down, no?
I don't think so. They actually let you cull your deck, so it's a little faster.
512 ! 😂
