Stipe became a father for the first time, just weeks after the first fight with Cormier. Good reason for him to sit out and take care of his family, when he wasn't getting any interesting fights other than DC rematch.

Unfortunately, it’s monetarily driven and being a champion and defending multiple times won’t always help get a rematch. Tyron Woodley is another prime example. Then on the opposite spectrum you may not ever defend and get a rematch or title shots or even have become a champion. Chael Sonnen, Cody Gardbrandt, Frankie Edgar are a couple of examples that come to mind.

Don't worry your opinions getting shattered this saturday when Stipe ragdolls and cuts him up with his hands. Everybody saw how much DC relied on cheap tricks during the last fight, Stipe knows what to prepare for now. It ain't happening again, not when the stakes are this high. But, on the other hand, the stakes are high for DC too... if he wants to exact his revenge on Bones, he needs to win this fight at any cost. It'll be a big match for both of them, but I think Stipe will have the upper hand and ultimately end up on top even if by a small margin.

However, he has demonstrated he is also a very smart fighter and knows how to strategize in the moment. I suspect that now he is experienced with DC's tactics and strategies, he will work next fight to ensure he can't get in range to poke him, maybe work more on slipping away from them and going for hard takedowns and big hits like he usually does. Of course I could be wrong, DC might just go in and do the same shit and fuck him up all over again. Totally possible. Like I said, stakes are high for both fighters, anything could happen. It'll be a tough fight for either one of them to come out on top. That said, I don't think Stipe will fuck DC up nearly as bad as Bones (if he manages to win).

Not sure why this notion of Stipe not deserving of a immediate rematch when others who don’t defend their belts

It's not that he didn't "deserve" it. It's that he wasn't entitled to it. DC took the belt and makes the decisions, so if Stipe would've just kept it respectful and stuck with that he feels he deserves the rematch due to his resume instead of trash talking DC, he wouldn't have people hating on him so hard. Instead, he started talking a bunch of trash about DC and how he has the right to an immediate rematch... Wrong thing to do is act entitled after you just got sent to the dark lands in the first fight.
Sean Drury IMO that’s BS he kept respectful until DC immediately started calling out A steroid freak that hasnt fought in 3 years and hasn’t won a fight in 5. So yes he was entitled to it off merits along.
