I've been working with the XA40 and the XA11 and if you have to choose between both, you should definitely go with the XA40. Due to the 4K oversampling of the XA40, the 1080p footage looks very sharp and clear. The XA11 only has a HD CMOS sensor - so it has no oversampling and is definitely less sharp and less detailed. Even for 1080p productions the XA40 is a clear winner.
what about for low light though? I snagged an xa40 and already have an xa30 and the xa40 takes about 6db more gain than the xa30 when both at f1.8 1/60 shutter speed. We do a lot of low light shoots and I'm thinking of returning the XA40 and going with this for low light - if it's veritably the same low light as XA30

Whooah, there was good reason Canon didn't allow apertures smaller than f/8 on the previous version. This XA11 closes down to f/16 and focal lengths of 3.67 mm feeding chips that are near enough ⅓'' means that diffraction losses will be serious. Don't stop down below f/5.6 good people, especial at wideangle. Use the built-in ND filtration if at all possible.
Nowhere in the spec sheet does it say whether the inbuilt variable ND is manually switchable or not. If there's no ND switch then it's entirely automatic and you have no say in what aperture is being used. Many camcorders are like this; you think you've shot at f/8, say, only to find the camera has set f/4 (to avoid diffraction losses) and slid undocumented ND into the light path.
@@SRINATTARSTUDIOS it may be that as it's a ramping zoom the minimum aperture ramps with the max, so you'll only get the option of f/16 at full tele. But generally, as I say, aperture readouts in the v/finder (at full tele) are extrapolations of f/5.6 and 3 stops of ND, simply to keep you well away from resolution-robbing diffraction.
