    Thanks for the information. I really do not see why you have 3 thumbs down on this video. This is good information coming from a dental practitioner, gez. Keep informing the public sir.

      Those 3 thumbs down are probably from dental insurance companies. 🙂

    I recently paid cash for a root canal and crown and said "maybe I need to look into dental insurance?". I still need another root canal and I want to also get an implant so I was just doing research and I'm glad I found your video. After doing the math it's really not worth it....lol. At least I'm just paying for services rendered and no extra mess. Works for me!

    I was just looking at some dental insurance plans. For $25/month, Cigna 1500 has 12 month waiting period for fillings. For $23/month, Humana, you pay 80% plus the deductible. I'm just going to call my local dentists and see what cash plans they have.

    I made the mistake of not researching DVH policies before signing up with a $57.10 policy that my insurance agent signed up for me when I got the Plan G policy.
    I canceled the DVH policy the same day I received the policy details in the mail.
    Laughable coverage for vision and hearing. Dental was only 60% for major services after 4 years.
    DVH policies are great for insurance companies, not for policyholders.

    Everything you said makes total sense. However, I asked my dental office about a discount for paying cash because I keep hearing that over and over and I was told it was illegal for them to charge a different price than what they charge the insurance companies. But I keep hearing that advice so I am confused. Can you speak to that?

  • @seashackf1
    @seashackf1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My dentist not only didn’t have a discount for cash customers, they charged more. That cheaper rate only goes to the ins company because they have a discount worked out with them.
    I did the math after changing jobs and figured the insurance didn’t save me anything and had the limit so I didn’t get it at the new job. I found out this out when I called to inquire why the bill was more than the ones they billed to the ins company. They wouldn’t budge. This was over 10 years ago and it was also well over $130.

    I added up the cost for dental insurance and the cost of our two dental checks up with cleaning (for the two of us) per year (we go every six months at around $250.00 each.). We have had two crowns in the past 6 years, $1,400 each. I just didn't think it was worth it either.

    Just canceled mine, 36$ every month and it only covers 2-cleaning a year, like the DR just said, makes 0 sense to piss away $172.00 a year

    I had a rear back tooth extracted yesterday in Washington, D.C. because the tooth was split in the middle causing me pain when I chew or eat something. I went to see a Periodontics & Implantology to get the tooth extracted and it cost $1,677 dollars. This dentist doesn't accept insurance. You have to pay up front then they will submit your claim to your insurance provider. When I turned 65 in 2021, I lost my dental coverage through my employer and I purchased a dental plan for seniors through Physicians Mutual. I found out yesterday, of the $1, 677 dollars I paid at the dentist yesterday, Physicians Mutual will only reimbursement $211. My regular dentist I've been seeing for almost 30 years doesn't extract teeth. He will refer you to dental specialist. I had one tooth implant and it cost close to $5,000. The dentist that extracted my tooth yesterday at a Periodontics & Implantology told me, the cost of a tooth implant would be $2,700 at her office. Then I would have to go back to my regular dentist for a fitting for a crown which would come to $2,700. We'll talking about a total of $5,400 for a damn tooth implant.😪😡

    If you know you need a lot of work then yes get insurance and then after the year don’t renew! I needed wisdom teeth pulled I needed crowns I needed fillings. I maxed the 2k out right away and then didn’t renew

    Delta Dental Basic at $48/month for 2 people = $576 per year
    Dental cleaning cost $125 for me and $190 for hubby per visit. We go 4x a year= $630
    So the #s are okay for us to buy it.

      Another thing to keep in mind that was not mentioned is that you actually can get indirect benefits beyond the plan max that make it hard to calculate the value. Because dental insurers negotiate reduced rates for members (usually roughly a third lower than the office fee uninsured pay). Therefore if you get a huge $3000 bill uninsured it may have been a $2000 bill when insured. If you have a plan max of $1500 (and say used $500 on other preventative care, so $1000 is available) then with insurance that rare event isn't costing you $2000 but instead $1000 because of the discounts you got via shared price negotiation.
      That said, most dentists usually recommend going to the dentists twice a year (unless you have a condition requiring more frequent care). So most dental insurance plans won't actually cover more than 2 cleanings a year. So I am not sure your math works out.

      Most plans have a 1 year wait to cover major services. Then they only pay around 1k to 1500 k max per year. You may be better off with a discount dental plan since there is no wait with those. But your Dentist may or may not take one of those, if not you would have to change to a Dentist that does to save money with a savings plan.

      in Washington state one root canal is just shy of 2000 dollars without a crown, but the again gas is 5.50 a gallon here too.

    real question what if for example, i have 15 Cavities, my dental insurance is $114 a month covers 80% up to 5,000 if i decided to get this insurance that i am looking to go withfor the the year, and i was recommended a deep cleaning. my price quote was about 5,500 just for the 15 fillings that is needed and another 1000 for the Deep cleaning.
    when i did the math 80% of 5,000 is 4,000 then the deep cleaning i would still have enough to cover at least 1 session of cleaning. and ill probably pay 1300 and change for the insurance for the year, and probably roughly 1,500-1,800 out of pocket for the work im assuming. so roughly ill spend around 3200 instead of the 6k that was quoted to me now, would you then consider getting the insurance get all the work done and dropping the insurance, or just pay it along the year or hell not get the insurance at all and then im stuck paying over 6k when i can just get it done pay for the insurance for just this year then go back to not having insurance, what do you recommend.

      Almost brought this one run numbers United healthcare advantage plan $29 with prescription drugs and dental they paid $200 on my crown I paid 1800 but I am still up against that plan and that was the highest coverage plan I could find my advantage plan pays upto 1500 not so fast so many exclusions basically you get about 400 worth cleaning filling in things I forget about something thing you can only have every 5 years still cheaper glad I didn't get that one

    • @mitchellchristianson8120
      @mitchellchristianson8120 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thing you didn't need a couple of good crowns that would probably charge for $20,000 15 fillings don't cost 5,000 dollars ask this guy I can't believe they pay him ppo no way that's in-network I am going look that plan up no way I probably had $50,000 worth of dental work in my life

      @@mitchellchristianson8120my dentist charge me $700 for a crown when I didn't have insurance. Got $100 Dental discount plan a year insurance and they say he can only charge me $630 for a crown. Regular price $1,000. Some dentist charge higher. But if I was a dentist I would want a million dollars to do a crown.😅😅

  • @melindaharting1338

    Dentist recommend that you have 2 cleanings a year, this is the norm and my last one was out of pocket 164.00 that's alot when your on ss.
    Most insurance companies have a 1000 that you can use for fillings and cleanings or you can just let your teeth rot because it is expensive these days.

  • @Phl-ou6vn
    @Phl-ou6vn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Jim, teeth can get complicated. It's not always a few bitewings and cleaning or a filling, that's the simple stuff! Wait till you have an abscessed tooth with no discernable pain in any teeth. Then it gets expensive as you go to see specialists because the dentists aren't trained to look for problems like that. Cone Beam CT,... both jaws $300. Implant crown problems from food residue infiltration,... cleanings $200, from time to time. Only for the rich, buddy!
