9:45 Every time I hear this sound, I think of when I used GBAMusRiper and listened to Sonic Advance's sounds; One of the jingles sounded similar to this! 19:10 Hey, Hunter! Done exploring yet? *Yeah!* HUH? 21:18 Based on how they scale, I bet they're just images like the Sparx in a bubble.
1:03 - Were those four bars that show the outside of the world there in the final? I think they exchanged that for a smaller single gap further up the wall in the final - I think it would have looked nicer if they kept it like this (with a proper background for the world of course!) Just an idea, but maybe that red bar that appears around 15:41 and 17:55 could have something to do with a limit for how long Spyro could breathe underwater for, even if it wasn't working in this demo? 16:07 - that area is missing a giant dragon statue that appears in the final. 23:28 - In the final game, there's several wooden spikes that pop up and down on this path, but these aren't here. By the way, thanks for taking time to upload more of these Spyro beta videos, its always nice to see what else you've found hiding in these games, and your commentary also makes watching these videos a lot more interesting to watch :). Here's hoping more information is found on Realms 5a/5b, thats certainly interesting knowing there is a possibility that 2 extra beta levels could be hiding in the PAL demos files.
Oh hey there! Sorry I missed your comment, it looks like Google's stopped notifying me about those for some reason. o.o Thanks! =D About the bars, I'm not sure, but I think there werre some holes in some caves that let you peek to the sky outside--in this version though there's no real sky through those. I'll note down the rest of the differences ASAP =) I've also got my fingers crossed for info on realm5a and realm5b (and realm1b2 and mini1a and mini2a!). I'm taking a break from hacking for now but maybe some other hacker will take interest; the realm files are now on my Dropbox so we'll see =)
Holy Shit, the sharks in this demo! O: That area can not be reached in the final version, if you do, you will die. D: The rock boarder to that area in the final version is a bridge instead. Also, ....did the pirahhnas.... make you bleed....? D: HOLY SHIT. In the swimming areas, it looks like there is no seahorse fodder, which is sad, they are so cute. :c Those pirahhans are also not in the first spot you met them in, they are supposed to just be in the large swimming spot, at 17:40! Also, sheep Jesus. The headbash crate is different. Hunter's area is boarded, and the music is different. The circling caves at 16:30 were not there in the final version, etc. XD
Darnit, you make me feel bad for forgetting most of this game, I don't remember the cute seahorses. =( Yeah I wasn't expecting the deadly piranhas to be there when I gleefully jumped into the first pool. =P Gonna note the rest of the differences. =>
I honestly really like this beta music better than the final Dragonfly Falls music. It's more upbeat and catchy. Is this demo a rare find or can it be easily found somewhere, either in downloadable form or disc form?
Same here. =) Unfortunately I think the demo disc is pretty rare, but quite a few diehard and semi-diehard Crash and Spyro fans have it. Its code is SLUS-29101 and it's a Crash Twinsanity/Spyro: A Hero's Tail combo disc. If it's literally nowhere for download, there might be PlayStation demo collector communities that have it. Good luck =)
Not for me haha! I prefer the final Dragonfly Falls music because it is more relaxing! The soundtrack of this Spyro: A Hero's Tail demo is totally different. Yeah, it is really more upbeat and catchy, but it does not bring the same feeling than music in the final version. I always think that Spyro: A Hero's Tail in his final version has an unique soundtrack, but I would say that this beta music is more similar than original Spyro games' one.
LXShadow I think I might have this disc somewhere but no idea where it is... But I certainly got a Spyro/Crash disc with a demo of both games from a UK convention once. I remember being surprised because PS2 demos were pretty rare to come by! I suspect it might be long gone though
Rebecca Gunn I reckon it was this one. =) download.lavadomefive.com/members/adjeca/images/ahtcts_demo_pal_front_sm.jpg I'm curious, did you find it back when the game was still in pre-release or was it more recently? I'm asking 'cause I hear some rare things can be found at conventions, and my beta sensors are tingling. =P Come to think of it, the only place I ever got PS2 demos was from the official magazine, my PS2 bundle, and online traders...never thought about where the rest actually come from, especially here in the UK =O
I'm so glad you like TLOS! And I agree, Sparx is the best character in the series. I also think the music is the best part about the games. It's too bad you didn't like The Eternal Night, though. That game is definitely the most polished out of all 3 games, and my favorite by far. You should give it another try sometime, even though it is frustrating at times. How far did you get into the game last time you played it?
TLoS is great in its own way. => A lot of people like The Eternal Night, but me... eererehuhuh! I had tried it twice and the second time I got pretty far (Celestial Caves?), but I just wasn't feeling it. The developer in me screamed when they recoloured Cynder with rainbows and called her 'The Elemental Dragon' before making me fight her again... x.x It felt cheap. I played DotD many times though; I really enjoyed that experience. =) I don't think I'll ever like TEN because of its gameplay (and my highly controversial dislike of Cynder's depressed mode), but on the whole I liked The Legend of Spyro. It's a shame they never continued it--I would have preferred that over Skylanders myself =(
You didn't like the Cynder battle? I thought it was kinda clever, since the game was all "face alone what you fear most" or however it went, and it turns out Spyro's greatest fear was fighting Cynder again. I guess it was kinda cheap to reuse a boss like that tho, I can see what you mean. And I also enjoyed DOTD a lot, despite a few flaws I saw (I didn't like the way fighting changed or how the multiplayer/ Cynder AI went). I really wanted there to be another TLOS game that would improve some of those things... then again, I don't see how the story could have continued.
madisondwrd I didn't know about the fear thing (maybe I forgot?)--that does make it clever, but I still remembered the dragon being called the Elemental Dragon, so I was pretty sure the game was trying to convince me it was another dragon entirely. Naturally wasn't fooling me there. =P It'd have been much greater if they made a different battle, which maybe showed hints of Cynder's past in a kind of ghostly style, and you could see things like e.g. Cynder becoming her smaller self for a split second every time you hit her. Something like that; just think it could have been a little better. =) It's sad that they only had the time to reuse the battle we've already played. [*TLoS Spoiler Alert*] I loved DotD for the atmosphere and the flying.. yeah, the fighting was a little annoying, and the AI dragon next to me, whoever it was, was an idiot. =P (An invincible idiot no less; why can't we be invincible too?! D'=) I don't know if the story could have continued there (pretty sure they're supposed to be dead, because of Ignitus's 'when a dragon dies, this happens' stuff just before the ending), but I wanted it to take a direction where it could have definitely continued. IIRC, the producers of DotD were saying that the first three TLoS games were the 'tip of the iceberg', so who knows what could have happened? R.I.P TLoS =(
I guess the secret area din't require the light gems, instead a dark gem blocked a passage... I would have preferred the beta one over the retail one. Also I don't recall the area with the waterfall (where you go behind it) existing in the retail version...
Yeah the music wasn't exactly memorable, but the final track for this level was pretty serene. One of the better tracks in the game. But what even is the demo music? lol The rams (I think they're rams, because, sheep and all) are in the final game. I wonder why they were left in. One time enemies kinda weird me out, like they're not supposed to be there... The elemental magazines/bombs seem much more useful than in the final game! It's like physical and elemental damage at the same time I guess. The dark gem doesn't seem to affect much scenery wise. The electric field around the cannon seems to make more sense than purple sludge. The light gem secret area (each one has an egg thief) is open automatically and there is a dark gem in there? That change makes sense; the door in the final take more light gems than possible to get at this point in the game, making the dark gem inaccessible. I like the rock border of the large ocean better than the final game's netting. The sharks are awesome to see, too. They make much more sense than poisonous ocean water past the netting (not in this level, but in Coastal Remains). I'm not entirely sure, but the gems seem to have different values (Red: 2 vs 1, Green: 10 vs 5, etc.)
