Thank you for posting this! The original 1922 film is still mesmerizing, haunting and genuinely creepy (has a the feeling of a nightmare in some parts). Herzog's version is a rare example of a remake (I know Herzog says here that this isn't a "remake", but just bare with me) that would make the original film seem proud! Herzog's film is poetic and beautiful (as with Murnau's film but in a different way). Now, in a few weeks (it's Dec 8, 2024) a second remake of Nosferatu is gonna be released and I do hope that new film will make BOTH earlier Nosferatu films proud!
It’s actually amazing, in anticipation of the Christmas release of Nosferatu (2024) I’ve spent some weeks watching this Dracula and that and of course the original Nosferatu… but I must admit, when trying to watch this movie I was taken out of it by the portrayal of the Count.. Until just now seeing this commentary, hearing everything this director had to say, leading up to the 29 minute mark where we finally enter the castle and see this portrayal. I will now finally get to finish this movie and with much respect for what I am witnessing. Thanks for upload
i was 10 when this was released and i remember i watched it with my dad. i'm sure i saw the original with him around the same time. i'm lucky to have seen all of mr. herzog's films when i was a kid.
