Not everyone has an epithet it’s just that not everyone who has one knows what it is since any word in any language that was accepted in a society or culture becomes eligible at any future point in time to become an epithet. Including pop culture words that are no longer used.
I thought part of the premise for Epithet Erased was that words only started granting powers after the world reached a point where everyone in it spoke the same language, because then everyone was able to understand any given word? I don't remember where I heard that information from. Is that just another theory?
@@jacintacapelety9600 I don't remember that idea from the original table top game streams or the rule book. No reason was really given for why Epithets exist. But it was mentioned in the original game streams that everyone does speak the same language around the world so that why people understand their own Epithets even if it's weird words or what would be foreign words in our world. As shown by Zora in the original table top game whose Epithet was "Crepuscular".

Okay, pulling up our friend Mr. Wikipedia... Nudibranchs are mollusks that shed their shells after their larval stage, and there are a few thousand species that fit the classification. The pictures on the website kinda look like neon-colored slugs. Also, if Jello doesn't know what he did, the people who named these things certainly did. The name literally comes from the idea that without a shell they're naked
If I remember correctly, in anime campaign Phoenica did have an epithet. Fluff. But it didn’t do much except summon a cloud of fluff. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they make her a Mundie for the series
So looking up some world building from Anime Campaign, it appears that the world is divided into a few countries. Rick is from the Ocean area, which is underwater and basically Atlantis. People from there tend to have darker skin and their hair tends to resemble aquatic life. They apparently specialized in dark magic in AC, so he may be telling the truth when he calls himself a dark wizard.
I have a few questions about ocean people. First of all, can they breathe underwater or are they like dolphins and other aquatic mammals where they have to surface regularly to breathe?
@@alexjewett7455 On the wiki, it says that the ocean race has no fish or water related abilities whatsoever, but that they do specialize in dark magic.
So Rick’s epithet is powered by his definition of friendship so imagine if his definition was anybody he meet’s he considers a friend he would just be a god

Do you know what would be weirdly useful epithet? Autodefenestration, or the act of jumping out of a window. Now that might not seem like a good ability, until you realize that means you can create holes that only you can go through. Maybe even wormholes, if you stretch the definition enough. Ps. As someone on the original video pointed out, Rick Shades can not just gain knowledge from his friends, but also give his knowledge to them. He cannot do the same with other attributes, however. Also, he apparently only gains proficiency while having "friends", and upon losing them, he loses a proficiency as well. He also probably has max stamina and creativity, but practically no proficiency, meaning he can use his abilities nearly infinitely and can come up with many ways to use them, but that doesn't mean he can use them those ways.
In the original table top streams it was show that as a kid he had hundreds of friends giving him one of the highest proficiency and as such was one of the strongest people the main characters ever sensed (It was show to them through another persons powers so they saw him as a kid). Then after leaving his friends for spoiler reasons he lost all of that and become one of the weakest people, AKA the same level as any other character when they start the game, which is where he first appeared in the streams.
OK Fun fact about Rick Shades: TECHNICALLY speaking for both him AND Phoenicia (Pronounced FEEN-ick-CAH) this isn't the first time we've seen these characters. Originally on the channel the loading CREW but now on the channel the loading 2 there was a pokemon tabletop one shot turned two shot staring jelloapacolypse (I probably misspelled that.) and the third wheel (Think of the third wheel as a DND campaign if they embraced all the crazy insane out of game stuff and put it INTO the game) with Jello playing Phoenicia while Rick was played by the DM of the third wheel. In the Utopus region, the region for the game, Phoenicia and Rick are part of a team of three, it's explained why in the earlier episodes, which in classic third wheel form, mixed with Jello's jokes, said team got named........peasant poppers......I wish I was joking.......Check it out if you'd like it's..actually really freaking fun, and funny.
It took me a moment to understand "chuuni". I thought Airier was saying "toony", as in wacky and cartoon-like, but then I realized he was referencing the chuunibyo phenomenon (don't know if I spelled it right), which I don't feel qualified to go in depth.
Spoiler for Anime Campaign: No clue when or how, but there's Magical Girl outfits for Molly, Trixie, Phoenica, Mera, and Indus in the original Anime Campaign. There may be a few extras I'm missing.
Spoilers I guess??? Its from what Phoenica said about her family fighting a evil witch. She assemble a team of who she thinks are magical girls along with Rick Shades as the expert on magic, in her eyes at least since hes a wizard, and Indus since he stays close to Mera (one of the supposed magic girls). They enter into a haunted mansion and go through various challenges and ghost boss fights. As they go through each challenge most of them get their own magic girl transformation, some don't so some of those pics are just fan ideas. They're also joined by Happy Abby a ghost hunter streamer who got a power boost for every collectable ghost she found since it upper how many views she had. She got so powerful that even if her player could have come back for the last Stream the GM Jello, at least with a laugh, said she wouldn't be aloud because she was so strong (although they probably could have found a way around it).

Hey you should react to the "Tuloween" skit they did with the OG cast, it's super good, and there's some great animatics of it, but also the Halloween stream as a whole is great.
When your epithet gets stronger it shows up on your body. Thats why ramsey has a golden eye, zora has dials, Meras bones break and indus has tear drops around his eyes (idk if the tattoos are)
Ramsey specifically said; "It wasn't an Inscribed that did this to me." Even if he was wearing Eraser Cuffs, he would only forget his epithet's abilities (it's shown that people are still aware of their epithets and how much stamina it costs to use them, just not how to use those abilities in the first place) and would still be aware of how he lost his eye. Sorry for going on a rant, it's an easy mistake.
@@aarthritis Yeah, he either made himself a new eye or had one made. In Zora's case, her epithet grew strong enough to cause marks on her body. Ramsey's gold eye was not a side effect of his epithet growing in power, Zora's marks were, though.

Does anyone still get that reference?

Oh, if they do a Book than Jello hopefully
knows youtube and sites like brilliant do have Writing-Advice,
with that advice's usefulness being Level 10/10.
I don't know if you see this comment, but I wanted to mention that jello stated that rick is from the ocean. this is why he says "surface" because to him this Is a different place entirely, and that's why he doesn't understand most things, like lip balm and homework.
Huh, didn't actually know that. 😯
He from ocean country
All the "I want it that way" animation did for me is point out how much of the main cast is just straight up a criminal...
@@Chaos_The_Kidd that is the reason listed in the wiki for why epithets exist and that as time goes on the chance of someone being born with an epithet increases
@@jacintacapelety9600 that is the reason listed in the wiki for why epithets exist and that as time goes on the chance of someone being born with an epithet increases
Huh, I didn’t know there was ever any shell involved. I just knew that they were sea slugs and that they were very pretty
Nudibrach (new-dee-branch) basically colorful sea slugs.
You know Jellopacolypse has made several Epithet Erased music videos. They actually contain a lot of lore and story.
I always try and come up with Epithets for mundies.
For example: Howie, Indefatigablity (Unable to grow tired)
For Phoencia: Jocund (Happy go lucky)
Those would match up with the theory about where all the mundies in the world just have never learned their word!
If I remember correctly, in anime campaign Phoenica did have an epithet. Fluff. But it didn’t do much except summon a cloud of fluff. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they make her a Mundie for the series
Mudies have something called a core word which is what their character is based around Howies is bee Phoncias is fluff Trixies is haunted
It's pronounced "noo•dee•branch" and there sea slugs
@@gaminggeckos4388 ok then.

He also probably has max stamina and creativity, but practically no proficiency, meaning he can use his abilities nearly infinitely and can come up with many ways to use them, but that doesn't mean he can use them those ways.
any epithet, with the right user, can be really strong, as long as you get creative and aren't screwed over by side effects
Nudibranch is the scientific name of sea slugs. They were helping save sea slugs you pervert.
Nudibranchs are a basically a type of sea slug.
(Nudibranchs) are a group of soft-bodied, marine gastropod molluscs which shed their shells after their larval stage.
Nudibranch is the scientific name for Sea Slugs
Correct, that is indeed a bindlestick, or "bindle" for short...
Huh, I wonder what a "Bindle" epithet would be like.
Help you survive or some sort of fast travel.
@@laszlokaszas1003 I was thinking a pocket dimension inventory.
With how epithets work both are possible and valid.
Rick is full on an atlantian pretty much
Also no not everyone has a word. But there are a lot of people with words they haven’t found yet. And some of them may never find said word
If Rick found the internet they’d be op from friends
yeah rick is pretty much a medieval man in present day
It took me a moment to understand "chuuni". I thought Airier was saying "toony", as in wacky and cartoon-like, but then I realized he was referencing the chuunibyo phenomenon (don't know if I spelled it right), which I don't feel qualified to go in depth.
Spoiler for Anime Campaign:
No clue when or how, but there's Magical Girl outfits for Molly, Trixie, Phoenica, Mera, and Indus in the original Anime Campaign. There may be a few extras I'm missing.
Continued Spoiler
Also Percy

Anime campaign incident?
I know this video is old, and you prouvaly alreadly listened/read thr book, but, a few things:
-Trixie is not a murder hobo
-This book is technically only the first half of Season 2. The next book is the second half. The OVA is the one-off episode in between.
-The Magical girl thing is real
-EVERYONE DOES NOT HAVE A EPITHET. Although, yes, a lot of people don't know they have one
-There are promotional infocards released on Twitter that shows stats
rick could become friend with a mechanic for example and he would be able to fix a car expertly or with an athlete he would gain their abilities and so on so yeah not just epithets

Giovanni Potage
Rick Shades
Giovanni. He can actually maintain his relationships.
Rick Shades. There is no contest.

Hey you should react to the "Tuloween" skit they did with the OG cast, it's super good, and there's some great animatics of it, but also the Halloween stream as a whole is great.
I was hoping he'd react to this!
Glad I did, too. It was awesome. 😁
You say that Rick's character was perfectly cast but here's the funnest of fun facts, Rick is played by the person who played him in Anime Campaign.
He actually wasn’t, he was played in game by Jay not Ray. I could see why there was mix-up cuz their names were similar.
@@starlightrai oh wow, their voices sound super similar too, I thought it was them.
He was actually played by Jay (original player) for the yell in the last episode.
Ray is playing him in the audio book/potential animated continuation
Thanks for this reaction.
28:50- That was very clearly active, not passive.
@@sleeplesswhipdcreme_nosleep yeah but After he Lost his eye he replaced it with gold
@@aarthritis Yeah, he either made himself a new eye or had one made. In Zora's case, her epithet grew strong enough to cause marks on her body. Ramsey's gold eye was not a side effect of his epithet growing in power, Zora's marks were, though.
32:51- Yes, but she's not smart enough to realize that.

what does choony mean
It's a Japanese slang term for someone who is acting like a kid, specifically a kid who's overacting tropes from Media. Such as someone who acts as if a normal conversation is a Dragon Ball Z battle and responds to questions with power up screaming and poses. Or for something more accurate, an edgelord without a reason to be edgy based on context.
