I was everything I hated. I'm now 296 days sober and look back at my old self and thank God everyday that I was finally able to pull myself out of hell. Not even death helped me stop. My mom was an alcoholic for 2 years. Hallucinating when she wasn't drinking, constant DUIs and would always pick us up while she was shit faced. I'm 20 now, and no one in the family has touched alcohol in years. It was just so sad seeing her like that. We all agreed that alcohol has no place in our lives.

    • @Shootttr
      @Shootttr 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Damn I’m sorry you had to go through that, I hope you and your mom are doing way better.🙏 My mom started heavily drinking while I was in high school & would try and drive me to school drunk. It was so bad that I just ended up driving myself with her car & no license.I would come home everyday to her passed out on the floor & would have to put her in bed so my dad thought everything was normal when he got home. So glad she’s 6 years sober now. Addiction is one of the worsts things that can happen to someone, yet also the best bc you grow so much when you’ve seen how shit life can be when you’re just numbing yourself.

I come from a long line of blackout drunks.
Irish, german, Cherokee, we sorta feel obligated.
A day came, after about the fourth (🤔?) "I'll never do that again"s.
What actually stopped me, I apparently no longer metabolize alcohol (?).
One sip equals instant hangover. A following realization that had actually been growing in my awareness for a while...
I hadn't "enjoyed" any sensation of alcohol for years.
I just did it. It was a behavioral mechanism. It was how I behaved, not really a want in and of itself.
Thank God, it started causing pain and illness (headache, nausea, etc...)
Personally, there's nothing physical in this life that I am more grateful for.

Both my parents were alcoholics & my husband had issues as well. He got sober several yrs ago. I have an occasional drink but getting drunk was never my jam. I don’t like being out of control of my mind & body. I get second hand embarrassment around drunk ppl. I have very little tolerance for that mess. I have no desire to be mommy to adults. It’s truly sad how ppl waste away.

As a lifelong non-drinker, I can relate to what Joe is saying.
I worked at a bar for six months.
Never drank, but saw the affects of alcohol everyday.
Sad thing is when people are so drunk they can’t stand anymore.
I also grew up in an alcoholic home.
That kind of life took my mother at age 45.

I'm 36, stopped smoking pot when i was 26 or 27 it was easy didn't like it anymore and my identity was a stoner, stopped smoking cigarettes a year or so after that because they tasted bad, just last New Year stopped drinking more so in support of my buddy than an actual desire of mine at the time, he still struggles with it but it's been easy for me, don't see myself drinking again and I stopped drinking coffee and energy drinks this past August, I would say caffeine but I still enjoy a glass of sweet tea with my supper. Out of all those I'm not sure which is the easiest and I was able to go cold turkey on all but hands down the caffeine has been the hardest and I still crave it some days.

Bad for your health, impacts your libido, spend a lot of $, you put yourself at risk of getting into a fight, DUI. It's just not worth it. I take a small dose of klonopin for anxiety. That's it. I don't even smoke anymore. I used to enjoy it, but it just gets me awkward socially and makes me feel dumb nowadays. I just have too much going on.. I stopped drinking years ago. Although, I have great memories of everyone drunk together, dancing, singing, 3am tacos. It was definitely evident that it was very toxic to the body. Now i'm close to three hundred pounds, My body is retaining water like nobody's business, To the point where sometimes I just can't even breathe, And I want nothing more than to get free of it but I just can't stop😢 If you're involved with booze and you can get away from it, then do it while you can before you turn into someone like me.
