Thank you for your great impartation of knowledge. The advantage of non English speaking speakers trying to teach in English is that they tend to use the simplest words possible making them easier for us to understand. And in the end, the winners are the viewers and audience since we understand the concepts better. Excellent job you're doing sir. More power to you. Greetings from Baguio, the summer capital of the Philippines.
Added to the advantage of Russian teachers, who tend to use the simplest language to communicate. If you’ve ever been taught boxing by Russians you realise this very quickly
Absolutely! The way it was explained to me from my driving instructor without any physics and more explanation and just "you have to steer in the other direction" was straight up dangerous because i really tried to abruptly steer in the opposite direction. Also coming from mountain biking i think i instinctly was turning corners really quick with my weight, so i was already shifting my weight and trying to steer in opposite direction.
This is the only explanation of the method that explain the sequences correctly... others are not understanding the follow up to the initial handlebar rotation. WELL DONE.
I've watched a lot of videos on the physics of countersteering, but this one is the *best* for an actual motorcycle rider, not a physics student. He talks about maintaining body position, how to use arms, head direction, clutch use, typical mistakes, how to practice, what to expect, and- if you add it all up, practicing repeatedly to develop trust in countersteering technique. Thank You!
I tried to practice this this morning, and it’s an eye opener. I have done counter steering comfortably at high speed but not low. And this makes total sense on low speeds and circles especially the idea of being relaxed and letting the bike turn. I am able to do faster and shorter turns and let the bike do it’s work. I used to have to turn it manually thinking I gotta max the turn of handle bars but the bike does it on its own! I’m mind blown, thank you for teaching this!
wahhhhh lmao I just got back from trying and I feel like my bike doesn't do it at slow speeds (obviously inexperience)! I only have my permit and have my msf course this weekend. Eeek hopefully I can pick it up there.
Thank you thank you thank you .... I've never understood the counter steer , until now. Looking to get my licence (A2) after 30 years absence from motorcycling. I really wanted to understand the theory behind counter steering, and you have answered my every question about it, countless videos I have watched, and NONE of them walked me through it the way that you did. Thank you again, this advice, and the way you present it is PRICELESS. HUGE thumbs up and greetings from the UK 👍👍👍☮☮☮
Я видел много разных видео уроков и это наверное самый лучший из них. Всё очень понятно и главное что вместе с теорией показываешь и практику котороя реально отображает всё что сказано.
This is by far the best explanation of counter steering after watching many other videos, as other comments have said you actually focus on details that are the most 'unnatural' and confusing for a beginner, body position, arm position, arm relaxing, push strength, when and where to do all of it and the variations, most other videos focus way too much on the bike and not on the body. I find that when I focus on being consistent with my body I pick up the skills much faster than if my brain is stuck trying to figure out what the bike is doing.
I have enjoyed your great videos & they have guided me to become a better pilot of my great motorcycle. Your articulate, masterful & pleasant presentations should be viewed by all who wish to be better & safer.
-------> Hi Jim, You are right ! I do this figure eight exercises in my houseyard for hours, - so I need not going to the dangerous traffic in the streets ! Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Great video, and please don't apologise for your English - it is grammatically better than many native speakers, very easy to understand, and your accent and little eccentricities are a delight to listen to!
It's all true. During my motorcycle courses, I realized I never really steered the bike aside from when it was upright and going really slow. Other people had sore arms and shoulders saying the bikes are so heavy, but since I always let the bike steer itself, all the bikes, no matter the weight seems almost effortless to turn.
The thing is, you had to be steering it to negotiate any curve or bend in the road, which means you were doing it subconsciously. Which isn't unusual, because everyone who ever rode a bicycle had probably never heard of counter steering while they were doing it, but 100% of those who survived were actually counter steering, otherwise I wouldn't have made it around the first corner. If you know what I mean. :-) have a good day!
@@grantperkins368 i don't think that is true. A bicycle is so light and you are so relatively heavy that you can lean the bike a lot by shifting you weight. There is no need to counter steer. In fact when I was a kid I used to ride all the time with no hands. I would steer by just moving my knees left and right.
@@gujagreankuyped8264 i posted that a year ago and have learned a great deal in that year. It is amazing how intuitive riding a bike becomes and how much you can not only unconsciously do, but how sure you can be that you aren't doing it.
This method is unfortunately very little known. However, japanese gymkana runners have been practicing it for a long time. It allows excellent maneuverability of the motorcycle. Thank you for these very clear explanations.
Check out any two wheeled sport and you'll see it everywhere. Speedway is a classic :-) It's actually pretty funny when you think about it, every single person that ever rode even a push bike has used this technique but 99% of them don't even realize it. Actually, for me, the first time I realized it was actually a thing was when I was practicing riding along sloping Road kerbing , in which circumstance it becomes very obvious because it usually happens at very low speeds :-)
I feel like someone has said this before but if not, never apologize for your english ever again. It's not your first language and you're still better than many native speakers. Also the video is excellent, great instructing there Sir!
Great demonstration and explanation! I think the bars turning into the turn is what trips people up and makes them think that countersteering "doesn't work at low speeds". When the bike settles into the turn, the bars are turned significantly into the turn at low speed (vs looking almost straight at high speed) and they think they are making the bike turn by turning in the direction of the turn.
I really liked your demonstration, especially you explain things based on physics and logics. It is so clear that you spend much more time working on them. I make you sure what you have done worth it. Thank you again for being my favorite channel.

Thank you for the video! You are a very good instructor. I have always ridden dirt bikes from a 70 cc to a 600 cc. My first bike was a brand new 1973 Honda CT70. These exercises are fantastic. And, you are using a KTM Duke. I just bought a 2015 KTM Duke 390 so I can not say "He is using different bike than mine so it's easy". Same bike, same gravity here in Canada, so I have no excuses 🤣
