  • doing these tests just to find out how much extra traction or surface area of rubber touches flat ground as you deflate the tires on a heavy duty 1 ton Ram with and without a max payload in the bed. I wanted to do some sampling before heading down to The beaches down in Corpus Christi with the truck and camper.
Here are the written results which will be easier than watching a 15 minute video.
Truck: 2017 Ram 3500 Laramie longhorn, long bed, 4x4, 68RFE, 3.42 rear gears, full tank diesel, no tail gate (CAT scale weight 8740 lbs)
Camper: 2018 Lance 1172 no generator, W/AC: 4,680 lbs empty
Camper loaded in this video without liquids: 5,250 lbs
    Tire footprint Results:
WITH CAMPER total truck and camper weight 13,990 lbs:
Rear tires 60 PSI: 84 square inches
Rear tires 40 PSI: 126 square inches (33% increase in surface rubber
    WITHOUT CAMPER:
Rear tires 60 PSI: 68.75 square inches
Rear tires 40 PSI: 81 square inches
Rear tires 30 PSI: 97.5 square inches
Rear tires 20 PSI: 116.4 square inches
