I was so disappointed with that company. I was part of the testing on their Everquest Landmark effort, which was a blast and some very beautiful builds going on all the time. It was a first-person builder, survival type game, but they could not figure out how to leverage the base to make money - like their base Everquest game - so they just canceled it. Very sad!
I've been playing MMO games for over ten years and never heard of this company. I thought LotR & D&D were like Warner Brothers games and that Everquest was Sony. DBG just was not on my radar and now, reading about it over the last 4 days, there isn't a lot to love about them. But EG7 who owns them, isn't so bad I guess. What it comes down to really is that it is very very hard to find a way to publish a game when SO many players out there want to play everything for free and they want no cash shop either. They want it all and don't want to pay for anything and they don't want anyone else to pay for anything either. How is the company to pay their employees and pay back their original investment debt if players won't allow them any methods for making money???
I was getting a bit worried about S6 and what would happen with Palia. I have never played an online game before and I just love this game so much. I sincerely hope that this is good news and Palia can keep going into the future. I will be there for as long as it does.
Thanks for sharing the update on this Mel! I can only hope this will mean nothing but good things to come for Palia and the community. I feel like having additional funding secured can really only mean good things as long as the new owner allows the existing team to continue with their vision and not step in the way. Great to see job openings as well - maybe they can hire back some of the talented people who got laid off.
July 1 to September 30th is the Third Quarter of the year, and many experts are guessing that this three month period will be a time of super close examination of Palia's business model by Daybreak Games. It is unlikely huge changes like going from Free To Play over to Pay to Play will happen immediately. So is it moving from free to buy and get updates or buy and have to pay dlc too? cause if its buy and get updates I'm all for it cause that cash shop was heavily over priced. I may come back to the game depending on what happens from here.

Acquisition means to "take over" another company. Large amounts of money changing hands, but not at the developer/creative level, but at the "decision making" level. Depends what kind of decisions are made, how Palia will go.
@Kayenne54 acquisition can also mean the learning or developing of a skill, habit, or quality. "the acquisition of management skills." Yeah I don't know. LOTRO has one of the worst monetization systems out there. Usually the 'creative freedom" stitch is a lie, it's there to make people feel better. If they go down the Dreamlight Valley route, I'm pretty much out. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I’m just curious what you mean if they go down the DLV path? I play both games and Palia is definitely my fav. I have my reasons also for not playing DLV, curious if your reasons! 😊
I have not played DDV. Some people complain that when you PAY to purchase a game to begin with, it should not then require you to have a million "star stones" or whatever they are, in order to make progress, especially when you can purchase said stones in a shop with real money???? is that what the issue is with DDV?
I only downloaded LOTRO a couple years ago so I can't speak to the past before that time. But here is what gaming news organizations say "... By offering free play, full stop, up until level 95, with seemingly no paywall barriers along the way, LotRO puts itself in the driver's seat to gain new players as they move into the latter-half of its second decade in operation..." So to me, it sounds like you now play LotRO free up to level 95? That is a lot of content. There is a subscription also that you can pay monthly and there is a cash shop but it doesn't sell anything that feels like everyone needs it. So it is Free to Play and has Pay to play monthly subscription that gives you the expansions after level 95 if you want to keep playing at that point. I don't see anything that smacks of pay to win at all. No one will ever be happy with every aspect of any game's monetization. I guess until every gamer has to go to work everyday and not get paid anything for their hard work, they will continue to complain about any gaming company actually finding a way to make income - it is hard.

It is fine, it takes a lot of research to understand all the implications of the buy out. At least you are not jumping on the "daybreak games ruins everything" band wagon without looking into it first. Daybreak made LotRO completely free up to level 95 a couple years ago, and they have a subscription monthly if you want it, that gives you expansions for free for the most part, and yes, they have a cash shop but I don't personally buy anything it sells. So I know you can play without it. None of that sounds horrible and end of the world to me yet...
Thank you for saying you love playing for free (which implies that you don't mind a cash shop you can't afford as long as that cash shop is cosmetic only and keeps the game up and running). I am 100% behind everyone who stands up for one side or the other. Either free game with cash shop, OR pay for the game and no cash shop. Those are the two choices and I completely understand everyone on both sides of that fence and support you all! But there is no logical way to support the opinion that the game has to be free to play AND have no cash shop... that would just cause the game to be gone.
Well S6 has been fully purchased, lock stock and barrel. Not just invested in, bought out. I would suspect the new parent company to have some say. But Daybreak Games can afford really big servers, for example, so instead of only 25 people on a server like it is now, there might be full size servers. I don't know if that is good or bad yet! And Daybreak supports PHONE games or mobile games, so that will probably happen. I don't play those so I can't talk about them, but some people love them and some people hate them. Daybreak will have some say in what S6 does but I don't think they will just jump in and tear Palia to pieces, hopefully!
I agree with what you just said. Everyone knows that the company needs to have income so there has to be monetization somewhere, period. You can have a free to play game with no pay walls at all - and then you need to 100% accept that there is a cash shop or some other means of making money for the company and not complain about it. You have the right of it from your side of the fence!!! If you are on the other side and you want there to be NO cash shop and every single item in the world available free or earned in game, then you need to accept that you have to purchase the game or purchase a subscription and 100% stop complaining about that. One way, or the other, will work and the game will survive. It just can not survive and will die if people insist it has to be both free to play and no cash shop or monetization - that isn't feasible.
you "KNOW" daybreak is a good company because you played everquest 30 years ago??? what??? blizzard was a good company 30 years ago too....have you forgotten?
Nope, no idea if they are a good company today based on Everquest now, just that back when it first came out under Sony, EQ was a game ahead of it's time. Have played Dungeons and Dragon's online and LltRO in the past two years since EG7 bought out DBG and didn't hate it. Didn't find them to contain the Korean model of monetization you find in Lost Ark. DBG was not even around 30 years ago when Sony released Everquest. If I said that I think the current DBG company is wonderful because EQ was good 30 years ago, I misspoke and I am sorry that is not what I meant. But I'm sure you realize that right?
Yes of course, thank you for pointing out that you are right. That is not what I was trying to say at all. Sony released EQ 30 years ago and DBG did not exist back then. Of course, around 2016 DBG was rumored to be associated with Columbus Gaming that was rumored to have interfered in the US Elections - but I did not use that as a way to say that DBG is a bad evil company today. A lot has changed in the past ten years too!!!! I was just saying that some games associated now with DBG, are not horribly ruined yet, so who knows, can't get all tied up in knots yet is all. Could be good, could be bad. But of course, you are right and I mispoke and was totally wrong to say anything of the kind, I didn't mean anyone to take it that way. I mean don't panic, wait and see, that's all....
@@melodyrosegames4UEverQuest was merely published by SOE but it originally was under the creative guidance of Verant directed by the late and legendary Brad McQuaid. Soooo... Palia is going to be Pay-to-Play, riddled with commercials, and paid content that does nothing and in worst case Pay-to-Win? Let's see how this goes. As a game Palia was not for me. Felt more like game for kids. But, I wish a success for the game and S6.
I appreciate your concerns and your honesty that you don't really play or enjoy Palia. If you like games where everything is at risk at all times, other players can kill you, and an elite 2% of hard core raiders are the only players that matter, like in WOW for example, those are more mature themes and not great for kids, I agree with you. Palia is definitely chill, cozy and relaxing and perfect for those of us who don't want high stakes in all our games. There is room in the world for BOTH kinds of games and gamers and I hope you are having FUN in whatever adrenaline pumping content you are playing!!!
They haven't been bought out. They are just joining another company. I really can't wait to see where they go from here. Upwards and onwards. S6 are amazing and I think partnering up with daybreak will bring more experiences to palia. Also thank you soooo much for the super fast news and for the great content as always. 💯👏😉💜😈🌹👍
Honestly I think Palia is already too much "need to pay to have nice things". It's annoying that all new clothing is blocked behind a paywall, and now different plots and animals as well. If they had the possibility of earning coins by playing the game like some other games I play I would be interested in buying other things, but this way they just create a class game where we know exactly who pay for things and who doesn't. So I think Singularity Six being bought will only make this problem worse, and make the game even less interesting.
I understand your thoughts completely. You have to have income as a game company though, you can't do everything for free. So, everyone can play the entire game for free with no limitations - and some people who can afford to support the company, can purchase stuff in the premium shop that makes them look good and does nothing else. OR, all the outfits, pets & skins can be free or earned through playing, and in order to keep the business up and running, S6 will have to charge a monthly subscription of $10 from every player, or with no subscription, charge $50 for the game before you can download and play it. That is the only two choices. You can't ask them to work for 0 dollars. They have to pay their bills and employees and investors back. So you have to pick. Pay for cosmetics that don't do anything in game, or pay to play. It's a hard choice for S6 to make...
@@melodyrosegames4U The game is free to play cause no one would buy a unfinished game full of bugs that keeps breaking. The premium items are way too expensive for the game we get. I did try to buy a outfit to help the game and get a pet, but game has no safe payment methods, and I'm not about to give my credit card number to a online game, or get paypal that's also unsafe. And that's why I become annoyed with the game, cause with no way to buy the outfits, I get no pet and I'm stuck with the boring base outfits and always looking like a bum in the game.

@@Anonymous-yv8et The latest updates already proved that this game is already "pay to have nice things and enjoy the game" cause they added different location plots and put them behind pay wall, without even giving us a chance to earn coins by playing the game. Thank you for the opportunity to revisit and rectify my earlier remarks. 💯🙈😉💜😈🌹👍
Still no worries I think, companies don't micro manage anymore. Think Amazon/Twitch relationship
Singularity 6 will still be controlling palia. 💯😉💜😈🌹👍
@melodyrosegames4U yes hopefully lol. 💯🤞😉💜😈🌹👍
I really like that Palia is free unless you choose to buy things with real money...being of limited resources.
TL:DR a lot can change in 30 years
Nope, no idea if they are a good company today based on Everquest now, just that back when it first came out under Sony, EQ was a game ahead of it's time.
I mean don't panic, wait and see, that's all....

was merely published by SOE but it originally was under the creative guidance of Verant directed by the late and legendary Brad McQuaid. I have been tense about Daybreak because of what happened with EverQuest Landmark (Next). I put in $99 to be an alpha trailblazer and Daybreak scooped the project up and shut it down before release.
@@melodyrosegames4U I'm not in to PvP 😁
They haven't been bought out. They are just joining another company. I really can't wait to see where they go from here. Upwards and onwards. S6 are amazing and I think partnering up with daybreak will bring more experiences to palia. Also thank you soooo much for the super fast news and for the great content as always. 💯👏😉💜😈🌹👍
Actually I read that they bought them completely with cash. This was from a financial/ stock market article.
@Swiz65 well from S6 themselves have said it is a partnership so yes there's that. 💯😉💜😈🌹👍
S6 has been "acquired" by Daybreak. Whoever holds the purse strings, governs the budget.
@@jaygreen-aka-ghost1987 That's a nice way to put it.
Acquisitions equals 'take over'.
The game has to make money somehow! What would you suggest? Pull it out of there a$$
Oh , so daybreak is the reason LOTRO failed and is a dead game now. great . hope they dont do the same to Palia . If you do not currently play LOTRO then you would not know its dead. As an ex player , it died the year after i left( not saying its because i left , just happened that way) i left and a year later the game died. i played that game for 7 years then i was introduced to WOW.
Couldn't agree more daybreak that company is so bad I remember yrs bac when I use play dcuo an jus how money hungry they are never fixing bugs hardly releasing content updates that cause more problems an the artifacts grind if you wanted to even make your character stronger have put in real money to even do so all these are explained much better an in detail by yt obsidin chill I really wished they sold out to better company Palia gonna go dwn hill fast sadly now was fun while lasted
@@snarky4lyfe144 N daybreak all bout makin stuff pay to win an bein bought means daybreak makes all the decision at the end of the day now Palia defently gonna lose players if daybreak does wut daybreak does sadly
@@snarky4lyfe144 that jus typical now days in any mmo sadly ppl r goin to act like azxhats an try b trolls cus wut they think is fun n cool which it ain't n ya said ya played wow before too so uk how toxic ppl can b sadly
Yep, I left Dcuo too. The second I heard it's been bought out by Daybreak, my heart sank.
I knew S6 had laid off devs, but the team seemed to really care about the game, and player feedback.
These were 2 circles I never believed would ever touch. I'm legitimately sad to hear this news. I wasn't concerned by the lay offs, as unfortunately it is common in gaming. I maintained the idea that S6 has always proven their integrity in how much this game has been a labor of love.
Now with Daybreak taking over, I'm dreading future updates before they ram it into the ground.
😭😭😭😭
@@Anonymous-yv8et The latest updates already proved that this game is already "pay to have nice things and enjoy the game" cause they added different location plots and put them behind pay wall, without even giving us a chance to earn coins by playing the game. It was already annoying that we couldn't have new clothes or pets unless we pay an absurd price in real money.
I already wasn't playing the game that much before, but when I checked the new update cause I've heard about the new plots only to find that I had to pay real money for them, I was like "yeah, I'm done".
