So ok, she only threw her out of the house cause she was afraid of hurting her(since she noticed she started becoming like her husband), but did she HAVE to just leave Shio on the streets? I mean, I’m pretty sure she could have voluntarily given up her parental rights or whatever, or at least just asked her relatives take care of Shio instead or smth. There were tons of more humane ways to distance yourself from your child. Plus, had she not been found by Satou, she would have prob died from starvation/cold/etc.
She was already broken at that point the universe is also overdramtic dark. You are right in real life you could probaly let your child be adopted. Still is a long process as the social workers will try to there best to fix the realtionship and make IT easy for the child. As extra mental illness is seen as something very bad in asian cultur and is often Not treated out of shame and social presure. So she probaly could Not even think straight.
Or even leave her somewhere safer. Out of all places, why the alley way in the dark? She could of left her in morning light or with a place with many people, not a shady area where anything could happen to her! Even if she was trying to make a wise decision in a bad mindset, it was better to keep her then to put her out in more danger.
Gau Kua Well, she couldn’t think straight and at some point she is still a child, I suppose. She got pregnant at young age and as we know she was kinda air-head, maybe that’s why she didn’t think about complicated things like parental rights or adoption
Yuna's character is pitiful. According to the manga, she grew up not having to make any decisions for herself (wearing the clothes her mother wants her to wear, going to the school her father wants to), and thus she never got to choose anything for herself. She's a quiet child, and didn't spoke about what happened to her until it was too late. It was all due to one fatal encounter that her life completely changed for the worst and shit went down from there. Perhaps she was dependent on her parents before all of this happened. It was her parents that attempted to speak up for what happened to her, but in the end, they chose to agree with her husband's father of marrying her off to the man who raped her because they believed that that will just solve everything; that he would change and take responsibility. When her parents died, she probably lost all hope that she would get out of this mess she didn't choose to be in. She had no one to turn to, and yet her children rely on her because it's her responsibility as a mother. A role that she didn't even want and wasn't prepared for. She was so young when her future was robbed from her and she didn't knew anything. She married someone she doesn't even love, who impregnated her twice, never even gave her half of their inheritance that's rightfully hers, abuses her and her children, and literally made their lives hell. In addition to the loss of her parents, the only people she can rely on, Yuna would be inevitably broken and damaged in the process. She can no longer decide properly for herself or her children because of this life she's now forced to live in. She would've been a better mother than she is under entirely different circumstances, but it was all due to one man who took advantage of her that her life went downhill quick.
Now I felt deep hatred towards any authority like family heritages or something. Shio’s mother was the same as me but different situations. In order for me to grow up is to suffer myself mentally.
Also the problem with not knowing what decisions to make, Yuna doesn't even know how to raise her kids. Her parents pretty much left her to be with the rapist of a husband, leaving Yuna to not know how to raise Asahi (and later Shio). Asahi was never sent to a day care nor a pre-school (this was while the husband was forced to work before his own father died, thus still had income to provide for Yuna and Asahi), so Asahi never developed socialising skills and always played alone at playgrounds when he was little. It was only when Yuna contacted her mother did she tell her what she should be doing, later decided offered on helping to raise Asahi. And of course, sadly that never happened. And I think even after that, Asahi never went to school. Other than not knowing what to do, Yuna ended up DEPENDING on Asahi since a young age. Asahi became someone who would say selfless things to make his mother feel better and make her life easier. When Yuna asked what Asahi wanted to eat, Asahi instead asked what Yuna wanted to make, resulting in her making a simple dish because it's easier to cook. He also became the one to reassure Yuna during hard times, resulting in Yuna always saying to Shio to wait for Asahi to come to them because she believed everything would be fine once he's here with her and Shio. Which, tbh, isn't healthy since their family is broken already, plus other than Yuna depended on her kids (or just Asahi) to be stable, she couldn't do work because she always made mistakes. Honestly, there wouldn't be a happy life for the three together. Even if they feel happy, it isn't healthy.

@@Imjustahuman1206Yes, I know she is, but leaving your child on the streets isn’t exactly a good idea. I feel bad for the mom, but leaving your kid on the streets is way too dangerous.
@Kosorou I agree that no one should have gone through what she did. As much as I want her to live a happy life like Asahi, I don’t think leaving Shio on the streets was a good idea. I’m not taking any of the characters’ sides, specifically Satou, cuz what she did can’t be excused. But there are some actions here that can’t be covered simply by using their backstories, no matter how tragic they might be. Personally, if I were to rewrite this anime, I would give a character that catches eye of Yuna and Shio on the streets, and try to find out what was going on and maybe try and assist them.
@Edgy_Ahh_Emo Yea, I feel bad for yuna and I understand why she did what she did, but I still think that she shouldn't have left her on the streets, though I can't fault her too much given what lead her to that point. Since her only thought was to just get shio far enough away from her. It's easy to say "they should've done this, or that." But it's only until you've been through something that causes you to act irrationally or without much thought to it, you can understand. You only come to realize the reality of what you did once you've come to your senses. That's why the state of mind someone's in is so important.
@clouds9914 Thank you. This is exactly what I wanted to imply. Yuna had a shitty life and was abused by her husband, and the man deserved what he got in the end, but leaving Shio, a defenseless child on the streets, is not excusable.
This could’ve been easily resolved, The mom could have her husband arrested for domestic violence/abuse and She seems to have bipolar personality disorder.. so she’d be in a mental hospital. Shio of course in Foster Care. Police should have taken care of this.. is the point
You’re right, but I think for the second one is easier said than done (at least for their culture, that is). But other than mental disorders, she could’ve gone to the cops about it since they do handle domestic abuse with the authorities involved. She really could be solved the whole thing just by literally going out to a police station, but she doesn’t. But that might’ve also would make it difficult on the cops as well if she decides to stop talking about it or handling it
Police are useless like a slave to the authority. Reject authority in order to save someone. That’s the true hero but not hero in World Wars. They have no individual, genuine role for themselves.
But how and when would the police have noticed anything about all this when Yuna never intended on calling for help bc of the way she dealt with everything? You think the abusive father would say anything? And Shio is probably to small still to even think about this option...
Half of the comment section is just people justifying the fact that she LITERALLY ABONDANONED HER CHILD AN I'M SICK OF IT! THERE IS NO EXCUSE TO ABANDON YOUR CHILD ON THE STREETS! NONE!
Yeah, it’s horrible leaving your child on the streets like that. However, you really cannot just direct all the blame on her. It is just insanely unfortunate that Yūna was abused by her husband, left alone and traumatized, having to care for her children by herself. I feel extremely sorry for Yūna, nobody deserves to be put into this situation. She was so broken that she suffers from making any logical cognitive decisions. Unfortunate, but it happened.
Now it all makes sense why Shio refused to come back to her and Asagi. Her mother abandoned her and the one who actually gave her love and care was Satou, whom Shio chose to love and only have in her heart even after her death.
