      Do you think these new cpus coming out are more focused on A.I. instead of gaming and that is why their performance does not transfer?
      I have noticed this with amd 9000 series and now confirmed with intel admitted the same with their IPC gains.

      *I noticed the picture of the new Switch PCB has the cart reader setup for being soldered directly on the mainboard. So, maybe just a first version? I'm not sure. Also, the PCB picture shows 19 pins for the cartridge reader. The current Switch uses 17. If this is the current layout for the new system's cart reader, it most likely will NOT be backwards compatible. The pinout and the cartridge data paths won't match.*

      The only thing I don't like about these chargers is how heavily they are marketed for iPhones. USB C isn't Apple property, no idea why so many people act like it is. Especially since Apple refused to use it in their iPhones up until EU forced them to. Most devices are still non-Apple and I would be interested in these if they weren't aimed at Apple users so heavily.
      And switch 3 will have what? 24 gigs when 32 will be the minimum for modern gaming at that time?

      The CAD files are mock ups by an artist, if you look at the joycons and the real picture of the joycons, you can see that the artist doesn't detail the connector or the guides for the magnets like it visible on the actual joycons. The CAD files are helpful for size and basic details, but not helpful beyond that since they are "fake" in that they are professionally made mock ups from details given to the artist. The pictures of the actual device are what leaked here.

    I think the delays with the Switch will give it a custom tegra chip that, while still Ampere based, will support advanced DLSS, framegen, and some level of neural texture compression. This is the only way they can manage another 7 year product lifespan.

    • @KoolAidManOG
      @KoolAidManOG หลายเดือนก่อน +38

      The way they manage a seven year product lifespan is with their software development teams, same way they did it with the Switch. The Switch is heading into its eighth year into being the best selling console of all time despite being slower than an iPhone SE.
      If Switch 2 can run eighth-gen/ninth-gen cross-platform games (which is 99% of new games) then they'll be fine. Ninth-gen being a bust is in Nintendo's favor. As long as a game can run on PS4 Pro or Series S it can be ported to Switch 2.

    • @douglasmurphy3266
      @douglasmurphy3266 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@KoolAidManOG All very true. My point is that a delay of one year could correlate to 2 or 3 more years of life cycle though compared to releasing similarly speced hardware without leveraging upscaling (which is for sure the case now) and framegen (a feature nvidia limits to Ada, but even MLID's leak states the tegra chip already completed has some extra goodies)
      The thing I doubt about his leaker is that they would release in Q1 of 2025 something that was completed in late 2022 with no further revisions. I'm saying they delay this long, that product is being revised. This is a product whose failure will be measured at 50 million units and success at over 80 million.
      AMD just spilled the beans on FSR4 using framegen as a battery saving measure. I can't see a Switch 2 coming out without that already being leveraged and AMD being the follower.

      I recently bought a 7950X3D and the boot process was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had, this was on a $300 motherboard. I’ve had to help two coworkers debug their AMD systems instability and ram problems. They seriously need to fix their infinity fabric/io chiplet issues, otherwise I’m going back to Intel next upgrade.
      The worst thing to debug on a system is a ram issue, every Ryzen system I’ve built has had them. Ryzens insane cleared cmos boot time only exacerbates the issue.

      @vigilant_1934 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@macicoinc9363 Maybe the issue is buying RAM that hasn't been tested for stability with the motherboard. Every motherboard has a list of tested RAM kits that work with it. It's simple. I've built 2 PCs, both AMD systems, and have used 3 different RAM kits in total and have never had an issue with compatibility. My first build actually had the Intel version of a Corsair Vengeance 16GB kit (didn't realize when I bought it was the Intel optimized SKU) and it still worked no problem at the desired XMP frequency on a B450 Max motherboard and Ryzen 5 2600 Zen+ CPU. That was a Linux Mint system so no issues whatsoever from the AMD side of things but the Nvidia GPU gave me a lot of driver problems since Nvidia doesn't have Linux optimized/compatible drivers at all.
      I'm currently on Windows 11 and Zen 4 and the issues I have had are almost solely with Windows. One update messed up my custom hynix memory settings that I got from Buildzoid and another one single-handedly raised the voltage on my 7700X beyond safe levels. You had issues with the dual CCD X3D CPU which wasn't optimized as well as Intel's E-core situation was. Microsoft in general just puts more effort into working with Intel due to the industry. AM4 works flawlessly at this point but AM5 is a work in progress. I'm going to test out Linux again with my AM5 system and see for myself but it seems like it's more a Windows stability problem than a problem with just AM5 or AMD one.
      I think it was mentioned in a Broken Silicon that Intel bragged about having as many software engineers as AMD had total employees. They have more resources and the market share to brute force the software to work with Intel. There are some AMD stability problems though that aren't a Microsoft or AMD issue and is due to user error/ignorance/negligence. Ancient Gameplays has talked about this a lot and has many videos and tutorials on these topics that involve motherboard chipset drivers, clearing old drivers correctly, and other updating new drivers properly. Doing these right can fix a lot of issues that people blame AMD or Windows for. At this point AMD has improved their drivers a lot so to say they're not fixing things or that they're all a mess isn't fully accurate. Again how you update the drivers can be the issue in itself. Your chipset drivers have to be updated too.

Overall AMD probably delivered 100+ million chips for these generation consoles. Margins are probably lower on these due to high volume nature. PS5 was announced in 2019 and launched 2020. Would be interesting design if the dock has the fan. Makes the device lighter and saves space. Saves also some energy as fan uses some power. Then you have to rely on passive cooling in handheld mode. It’s a much bigger device than flagship phones. Rumors say it’s 4 TFLOPS. That’s 2x of flagship mobile phones. But this could be docked mode. Flagship phone performance in handheld with no thermal throttling is possible with the larger chassis. Then it would be slightly faster than PS4 in handheld mode and close to PS4 Pro in docked mode.
    That ”small” battery is 60% bigger than iPhone 15 Pro. Seems completely doable. Numbers match.

The 13600kf gives similar performance to the 9700x in workloads, meaning the 245(i think thats the i5 lol) will see gains above that. The 265 will likely be near the top of MT performance and sit under the X3d in gaming while beating the none 3XD chips like we have typically seen. if the 7950X is still $500ish thats a tough sell. The 7700x at $250 is more attractive, but still a tough sell depending how much the I5 is.

    Your issue with the switch 2 power consumption is you are using the total consumption chart for comparison to the SoC consumption.
    Screen takes up battery too, and the resolution is going up to 1080p. Meaning more energy consumption.
    There are rumors of multiple screens too, which... imo doesn't make sense. But who knows.
    5w SoC sure. The most energy efficient 1080p screens take 4w or so. Then you have the other chips, caps, leakage, etc...
    Probably looking at a 10-12w draw which puts the increase battery size in the same lifespan, roughly.

    • @Loundsify
      @Loundsify หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Screen power consumption is usually based on how bright you want the screen. Also Nintendo are going for 60Hz still so it won't use that much power. Probably 2-3w at most, maybe 4w with the brightness maxed out but tbf that would wash all the black levels out.

    What we need to keep in mind , is that of course by applying more power we get more computing capacity . But it does not scale linearly. Far from it. The more power we apply , the less the increase in computing power we get.
    So, assessing 2 processors at 250 W?? I do not know . I am all for desktop computing , and for utilising power over 30 watts,butI think up to 120 Watts is reasonable . Beyond that, it is insane , and it is because of this , Intel would void your guarrantee if you stressed the proc to these levels in more reasonable times.
    Intel at the latest years resorted to these power levels because it found itself unbelieveably behind in lithography. So it had to make up for it somehow. But now that they use nodes close or perhaps the same in the future with Apple, I think they need to cool down.

      to be fair the switch 1 OS is pretty light on RAM usage (consuming around 1GB if I'm not mistaken). if they were to use that again they'd have 11GB for games, which pretty comparable to other current machines (I'm pretty sure both the series x and PS5 allocate only a little bit more of RAM for the games).

      I actually think the 9800X3D will be slower than the flagship Arrow Lake because Zen5 is not a gaming architecture and Intel will support even faster memory.

      @@tstager1978 Zen5 is a flop as it has performance regression in way too many games vs Zen4 even with the Windows11 24H2 update. Putting V-cache on top won't make it significantly faster than Zen4 X3D. Go watch Hardware Unboxed reviews. The scaling between those two will be the same. The brand new 7600X3D is slower than the 14600K, both 7900X3D and 7950X3D are slower than the 14900K. The 7800X3D is the only AMD CPU that currently beats Intel in most games. Arrow lake doesn't have to do much to crush both Zen4 X3D and its Zen5 X3D successor. Arrow Lake has more cache and faster memory support. Zen5 and Zen5 X3D have no cache increase relative to their predecessors and re-use the same DDR5 controller. Those are the key aspects that matter the most for gaming.

    Arrow Lake looks to be good and not gimped on DDR5 speed either. I can't wait to see 285K/265K vs 9800X3D and first then, I will make my decision. Unless Arrow Lake is a slam dunk then I probably won't wait another 3+ months for 9800X3D because I don't really think it will be faster than 10-15% over 7800X3D in gaming and 25% in applications.
