    Got a nearly 20 yr old guitar from a Pawn Shop to get back into playing. It has just a tiny bit of separation. I knew to release the tension on the strings immediately but didn't know how exactly to fix it. I will definitely be doing this repair when I get the materials. Thanks for the tutorial!

    Many thanks for this how to. We bought a guitar at a school auction for the kids and it came with this neck separation.
    Looking forward to the kids learning and playing it when it is repaired.

      Great, I would suggest having it checked out by a guitarist once the repair is done just to be sure there are no other issues (warping/action/intonation), etc) with the instrument. It can be very discouraging to try to learn on a guitar that isn't playing properly.

    • @Guitar101Ramstein
      @Guitar101Ramstein  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      If it actually cracking in the wood, that is a worse situation. If it is just starting to seprate, would tighten the strings a bit higher in tension, let it sit overnight and that will further separate it, making it easier to glue and clamp back in place

    I just bought a Fender ukulele in this condition. It's currently sitting on my workbench with two clamps on it while the glue dries. I simply flexed the joint open a tad and the glue ran right in, then squeezed out the side as expected.

    Please can you post links in the description to amazon where one can find such a clamp and the woodglue brand/type you use? There's a lot of crap out there and its best to stick with something vouched for. Hard to find quality.

    • @Guitar101Ramstein
      @Guitar101Ramstein  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get your point, but honestly wood glue is wood glue in all cases I have tried. Good ol' Elmers wood glue workls fine. For a clamp, it also doesnt matter as you really don't need to put a lot of pressure, or you will damage the guitar. You can literally just make a diy clamp for this with some scrap wood and screws,

    Is it possible to repair a headstock the has broken off?

    • @Guitar101Ramstein
      @Guitar101Ramstein  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be, it usually involves some metal reinforcements and depends on where and how it is broken. I had t done ages ago by a professional and was able to successfully do it on an acoustic guitar for a student, but it's best to take that to someone with experience to repair it, or at least tell you if it's possible to repair.

    I have a Seagull 6 from the 80's. It has a bolted neck which I tightened but it didnt seem to effect the seperation. I was afraid maybe it was the truss rod. Should this type of guitar be glued?

    • @Guitar101Ramstein
      @Guitar101Ramstein  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say without seeing it, it has 4 screws and a plate on the back to hold the neck like an electric guitar? In that case if the neck is separated the holes might be stripped.

    That looks to be a nylon stringed guitar. Not sure this method would work on an acoustic. Your thoughts?
    Also, If the original glue popped, wouldn't it be best to clean that old glue out if possible. I don't think most wood glues can adhere to glue that's dried onto a surface.

    So I did this and not sure where I went wrong, but it now caused the strings to be too tight when in tune, and also they loosen themselves due to the pull. When I tune them, they are abnormally way too tight and hard to press down. I put the guitar down, next day they're all ut of tune.. due to stress on the strings..not sure how to fix it now and I asked a guitar shop, they said usually that broken kneck is not worth the cost to fix it. The kneck looks straight to me but seems somehow it messed the alignment up and didn't fix it properly, maybe I put the clamp too tight? Any answers for this, if it is unfixable.. How exactly does one up cycle or dispose of a guitar?

    • @tide5617

      1) maybe the glue hasn’t fully dried
      2) because the glue wasn’t fully dried. When moved it got dried at a weird angle inside the guitar not appearing outside
      3) The wood of the guitar and the glue just didn’t hold up together and may be separating slowly

      @@Guitar101Ramstein well thank you Captain obvious! I'm deliberately leaving the strings on and playing the guitar, even though drifts out too easily, so it will open up and I can make a repair.
      I also contacted the manufacturer to find out what kind of joint they used to bond the heel onto the body. If it's dovetail I know I can drop some really good hide glue in there clamp it down for a day it'll be fine. But it's not a dovetail it's best it comes completely apart, so I can reassemble it properly.
      If I don't get a response from the company, KAMAN MUSIC, in the next few days I'll just let it go and see what happens and make my decision that way. Cuz it's breaking it will break eventually and the only way that's going to happen is if I keep the strings on so the neck is under stress so it would make a decision on its own, do what it's going to freaking do, and I get to freaking fix it!
      I love working on guitars! I have 13 of them! I would say 5 or 6 of them had things I can take apart and improve on One of them needs repair and I'm also busy for courting me music.
