    I was never a Mesa player. Never cared for the Dual Rectifier when it came out. Played through it many times in the studio back in the day. Never played one of these however... if only I’d known back then ... I’d have snatched one up and kept it. The Holy Grail of Mesa . Killer tone.

    Amazing clips of the amp that really does it justice! I have a similar Mark IIC+ (it is also has the Master 1 labeled as Gain Boost, rather than Pull Deep, graphic EQ, etc., through mine is a long head). What power transformer/power amp does it have. Mine is the Simul Class with the export (X101). You really showcase how sticky and harmonically rich the amp can be (especially when the mids aren't completely scooped out!). My experience is that recordings don't truly capture how 3D this amp is in the room, and can't show how this amp cuts through when playing live. (Even when when you are quieter than everyone else!) Your greenback tones were also top notch! I love that you actually showed the clean tone as well--since there is a lack of people showcasing how well the IIC+ can do clean. I'm currently primarily using my IIC+ for cleans, so I would love to see some settings you find.

    I've never heard these boogies sound so good until the last day or so. I'm particularly surprised because I used to own a mk 3 and I always thought they were pretty much the same thing as the iic. Mine had the simulclass option though and I never really loved the tone. I was much younger and didn't know jack about tweaking these amps. I went Marshall, everything on 10 and that's all she wrote. Your amp sounds amazing and I'm happy to hear it, because I'd been disillusioned with boogie since.

      Same for me, tried a IV at a store for an hour 15 years ago, HATED it. Though I've been listening to Mark IIC+, IIIs, IV's, VII's, and the JP2C and I'm addicted to the unique character of the distortion. JUST bought a Mark III yesterday, waiting on it, hopefully I can get close to these great tones I've been hearing, especially now that I know how to adjust them.

    I have had them all, still do, and sold them all back in the 80's working at strings and things in Memphis. the mark iic+ mark 3 purple and red stripe, mark 3 blue stripe and the last one mark 3 green stripe, they are all so close almost no real discernible difference between all of them. they are all the same amp with minor tweaks. Mike at boogie will tell you that. Even the mark IV was so close in sound, it just got more technical with some separate eq where the others shared the eq across the channels. it makes sense all of them being a mark series amps, if they were vastly different they wouldn't have just swiped each version with just a magic marker swipe or a black dot or a + sign. The big difference in the IIC+ and the Mark III was the third channel. Mesa got noticeably different with the Mesa badging vs the Boogie badges. The Rectifier series,The lone star, Road King,Nomad, etc came later and did sound different... The stiletto was probably the most different being EL34 based shooting toward the Marshall tone. Even my newer Mark 5 EL84 based amp sits in my studio with the older mark III'S and it too sounds really close even all these years later with totally different power section/ tubes. The petrucci amp is a modern Mark amp and you can line up all the Mark series amps and NO one in the audience would ever know the difference and most guitar players blind folded couldn't pick them out one from the other especially with the transparent EVM 12L black shadow speaker or an MC-90 black shadow. The IIC+ landed in the right time to become the flagship vintage boogie. Thats when 80's music was huge and that amp was produced at the right time for the players who made it famous. I would argue a Mark III purple, red, blue or green could have been used by the players who made the IIC+ famous and those albums and concerts wouldn't have sounded any different.

    Not just IIC+ but one of the best Mark series clips I've heard. Why in the world would Mesa try to improve on this? I've never read a comment where someone preferred a Mark III or IV over a IIC+. Seems like Mesa was selling to many MK IIC+'s and Randall wanted to slow down production.

    • @protest9093
      @protest9093 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mesa wanted to make amps better setup for gigging, which eventually brought them to the V and JP2C. Besides that though they weren't able to continue building the IIC+ because parts sourcing issues and regulations prohibiting them from making the transformers. There are also people that prefer a IV to a IIC+ because the IV lead tone is a bit different than the rest of the lineup.

    • @1969MARKETING
      @1969MARKETING 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I've commented on similar videos. I have a Mark Five 25 which has 3 high gain modes. IIC+, IV and extreme. I typically play on Mark IV mode. I find it has a slightly clearer high gain tone than IIC+ does. To me IIC+ is slightly muddy. Blake has a Mark IV video just like this one. Take a listen and I think you'll agree with my comment.

      I do. But only because my 2c+ lacks gain. The 5 is my favorite. Now I need to get my hands on a jp2c. A 2c+ with more gain and 2 independent graphic eq!!!! Sounds like the holy grail.
