As the guy who filmed the official content for Gibson and Mesa, I can tell you the Rectifier is very very close sonically to a Rev F or the greatest Rev G you have ever heard. It's very good. It will be out right before NAMM, while the Mark II C+ reissue will be out right around Thanksgiving 2024 and is also very very good.
@@ntath I really wish Mesa Boogie would release a 35 or 50 watt Recto. I have the 25watt Rectoverb which is awesome, but it could use some updates (like a DI out with IRs). But there is a huge gap in terms of mid sized amps with the Rectifier line (35 - 50 watt). You either have to go from the mini rectifier/rectoverb 25 to the full 100 watt dual/triple rectifiers, which are honestly too big/heavy/loud for most people to use in most venues.
As rack stuff is getting some hype currently they should absolutely re-issue the Triaxis with some additional features like an IR loader, a better power supply and a gate. And put it into a shallow rack enclosure. But that won't happen since Mesa is Gibson...
I have a sales promo for the release, your stated IIC+ price (~$3800) is accurate. Also, release was showing Nov\Dec 2024. Who knows if that will be met
Heyy man! I'm curious, is there any reason to think that these reissues will sound closer to the original IIc+ than the jp2c/mark vii versions? I mean, is it just the vintage look and removing of modern features or will they actually get the circuit and components closer to the OG? I'm kind of tierd of hearing Mesa and Petrucci saying "now THIS is like the real IIc+, not the previous version". At this point it just feels like they are always lying.
Not even mesa knows what a true IIc+ is, they just did make constant changes at the time...and they did not document anything. What components was they used back then had higher tolerancies than nowadays so every amp sounds diferent back then...

Finally! I've called Mesa like 5 times over the years asking for a chrome chassis amp again, not even the DR, but any amp! Their last offering was the Stiletto Deuce/Trident heads. I have both the Stage I and Stage II 😅 I'm a fanboy for chrome chassis amps 😂

In 1977 I bought a Mk II head directly from Smith with a hardwood cab for under $1000. I guess $3600 is about right for a hand built. That is a lot for an amp that can be mass produced without the wood work.
They should release a new Pre. Not just the triaxis again but a new unit altogether. Have Lonestar tones in there, Tweed like in the MKV or Roadking, Stilettto and of course the Mark and recto tones. Instead of Dynamic voice put in an actual graphic like the Synergy guys did. Give it direct options like the new X88ir has. Maybe do a 2 space and have an actual spring reverb like the Cali Tweed or Tremoverb had because they sound incredible.
PSA: Got on list for a iic+ from well-known giant sized dealer. Contacted my assigned Sales Engineer ($3,599.00). I prefer to buy local, but, wanted to ensure a iic+ was secured. All said, it ships in 2 weeks from now. …metal gonna metal 😎🤘
Why would a IIC+ street for almost $5k. There aren’t special solid gold components in those amp. Spoiler alert…all the time and money that goes into the original circuit design is already done!

IIC+ can do anything. Seriously. Every amp in my collection is probably somewhere in that thing, you just have to spend the time with the settings to get there. Fender cleans? Yup. Edge of breakup? Yup. Classic rock crunch? Yup. Bluesy hot overdrive? Yup. Hard rock edge? Yup. Alternative? Yup. Metal mayhem? Yup. It's all in there.

This is pretty cool but let me save the guys who want to record/gig a MkIIC+ reissue a few thousand dollars. The MkIIC+ setting on the 25w and 35w MkV is IDENTICAL in sound. My buddy and I have played all three (the original and then both wattage MkVs) side by side and through the same cab we can't tell the difference (and we are professional live sound engineers and lifelong Mk Series players). He's had that MkII since he bought it new (and we both figured Gibson was going to cash in on the nostalgia and probably do reissues and relics). If you just have to have the "grail" amp I get it but if you just need the sound and feel for recording or playing live, then buy a used MkV for like $1200-1400 and call it a day.

You say "Mesa-Boogie reissues are coming!" as if it were a good thing. They'll be built as poorly as the originals, perhaps even worse, with a high density of under-rated and oversized parts. The serviceability of Mesa Boogie amps has always been terrible; no experienced tech wants to work on them.

I do think it's a good thing. More gear and more options for players is always a good thing. We're living in an awesome time for gear. I've never had any reliability problems with any Boogies I've owned. I agree that regular techs hate working on Boogies, but all you have to do is send your amp in to Mesa. Their customer support is excellent. I just had Mike B go through my '83 IIC+ DRGX last year. His communication was great and we discussed what my options were. I ended up ordering Sprague and F&T caps that he put in for me, and he sold me a set of NOS 6L6 for it too. The amp sounds better than ever. Tighter bass, clearer string definition, and punchier than before. Also, heads up that Dave Friedman's only employee at his LA shop is the former lead tech at Mesa Boogie Hollywood, so he is also a great choice.
I own 7 Mesa 20 year+ old amps and have had no problems outside of the usual tube that occasionally goes. Only major issue is my early TriAxis just froze up but I knew the thing was coming up to being in need of service due to its age (30 years without any service). Can’t complain about that. And I know of at least 2-3 techs here in southern Ontario that have zero complaints working on them…(they are M/B certified techs and know what they are doing).

Mesa's "design" fails include (but aren't limited to): 400 volt orange caps used in circuits that see 450+ volts, upsetting the bias and killing output tubes when they leak voltage; underfiltering of DC supplies for preamp tube heaters and switching relays (47 mfd where they should be using several thousand mfd); overfiltering of the rectifier tube output (120 mfd is double the max rating for a 5U4 or 5AR4, and can cause arcing); obsolete-type muting transistors that are failure prone, putting DC on the pots); Vactrol optocouplers that fail and cause excessive hiss and signal bleed; flammable and undersized carbon-comp resistors for power-supply voltage-dropping and output-tube screens; hot-running undersized/under-rated resistors and diodes mounted flat on the board instead of being raised up for heat dissipation; known to fail tantalum capacitors that short circuit and flame out; "clean" channels with more hiss than the high-gain channel....but hey, don't take my word for it, check out Psionic Audio's Mesa 16-video compilation. PS, 630 volt film caps can be obtained that are much smaller than the enormous orange drops; although it's sometimes possible to sneak in with a soldering item and change components from the top (saves time, saves the customer money), it becomes very difficult when those abnormally huge capacitors are blocking access. Making measurements at the leads of existing components can be very difficult due to the high density of parts; and the published schematics are often incomplte or inaccurate.
