    I know this is 6 years old, but I just discovered your channel and man, it brings back memories. My dad and uncle used to get into wars over RBI Baseball, with my dad being a Mets fan and my uncle a Yankess fan.

    I had to be dragged away from the cocktail version of this game at restaurants by my family. Please another quarter just one more quarter!

    I always hated this game, but after seeing a couple of your videos and seeing that they ran in order I figured I'd miss out on a lot if I didn't watch them all, and I was right ! what a great series!

    These old games truly are fascinating to look back/play. Yes, many are super sticky and lack the versatility improvements made in recent memory but it's to be expected. A neat little relic of the past so we can have the good stuff we have today.
    -Wii Sports baseball is my favourite.-

    I discovered this game when it was added to Switch Online and I love it. A much better game than people give it credit. I have spent entire evenings playing NES Baseball. Also bought the GameBoy version for $7 about two months ago and play it almost every day for two or three innings to wind down after work. I recently accidentally discovered that you can take control of the outfielders in GameBoy Baseball which is a step up above the NES version (as is the music from the GameBoy version). For my entire life I avoided sports games like the plague until I discovered Nintendo Baseball on the Switch (mostly because I just couldn't figure out how to play them). Now in my 30s R.B.I. Baseball 20 and 21 are among my favorite Switch games. I still mostly play adventure and horror games but I'm glad that Nintendo finally brought sports games (Baseball anyway) into my life. P.S. The GameBoy version IS just as good as the NES. version.

    "The world's not really short on comprehensive surveys of the NES, so I
    don't expect this to be a particularly popular or well-received
    series-it's just something that seemed like it would be enjoyable,
    really."
    I don't know dude, you have a mighty train going, and I don't want to see it stop just before Zelda 1 and Metroid.

    Once you've played Baseball Stars, it's really hard to go back to earlier NES baseball games.

    This was my first NES game back in ‘85 .. Quite a fun title, especially to a 7 year old boy who was into baseball card collecting and neighborhood baseball matches ;)

    I LOVED this game! I played it on the Vs. System in 85' at the arcade I worked at. We had the Vs. Dual upright cabinet- and I couldn't get enough! When I got my NES, it was the first game I bought!

    Great work, as usual. I love Chrontendo, but getting each game as an individual episode makes your way a little more easily digestible that that or Generation 16 (which I'm also a big fan of). Also, I was just slightly let down that the episode didn't end with a snarky comment in the "for more [something], keep watching Good Nintentions," mold.

      +On the Stick I had live video footage of myself making droll remarks for the intro and stinger, but I'm not quite happy with the way it looked and cut it. Like I said, work in progress.

      +On the Stick As I already binged through Chrontendo's content a few months ago, I love this new individual take on each game.
      Although, if the average time remains the same, the sum of individual episodes would still amount to just the same on the former's series.

    I have to admit that when people said George Plimpton used to make commercials for the Intellivision I had mistakenly thought it was George Clinton representing the brand. I realize now I just didn't know who George Plimpton was and substituted the music producer instead. Stupid brain, but my version would probably have been more interesting.

    Good stuff! I got really into Chrontendo after discovering him through Retronauts, but he hasn't put any new videos out lately :(
    This series seems like it'll be a good companion, and it'll give me something to look forward to while I wait for a new video from him!

  • @NORMALLYRETRO

    At least more than the Animal Crossing guy is towards playing some old school NES Baseball "No Thanks"

    My uncanny valley peaks rather quickly, so these old video games are the only way for me to actually give a crap about baseball. I'll try this out, though I don't actually have a copy of this game in my collection. My favorite baseball game is actually on the Neo Geo.

    As primitive
    as this game looks now since this game came out in 83 originally there was nothing close to it. It was a few more years before the likes of Hardball would come along, and really put quality baseball on the map.

    thanks man! i had hoped that your companion series would be about the Virtualboy though,as that both fits your topic and is an intriguing piece of history. please consider making one for it too atleast :)
    also,where is episode 51? ;)

      +Fayez Fawzi Sorry, I can't really record VB footage, so for the time being that's off the table. Also, please don't hassle me about video releases.

      +Jeremy Parish ...how am i "hassling"you?i was simply asking. i even added a wink at the end. one post isnt hassling. it just meant that i was looking forward to it.
      as for the footage,cant you simply use an emulator?

      +Fayez Fawzi I said "please"! I was asking politely! But please understand that side projects like this happen when their creators can scrape together the time for them.

    Glad you found a way to get away from all those puzzle games...for now. NES has a good bit of puzzle games too so good luck.

    • @JeremyParish
      @JeremyParish  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jlc992 Puzzlers on NES are far more spread apart, and tend to be a lot more diverse in nature. I don't know if I'm going to take this series beyond 1986, so it probably won't be an issue anyway.

  • @hecosean
    @hecosean 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have to say. As good as the NES baseball was graphically, the intellivision baseball (and it's real sports Atari version) were really good! I think due to the scaling effect and the outfielders waggling to simulate depth you mentioned, the intellivision game actually plays a little better. (Partly due to individual base runner controls. )But for 1983 it's pretty great. Thus first playing NES baseball I wasn't really impressed as it to me it wasn't quite as fun. Although still a very good game. Also I always assumed the C was for the Cincinatti Reds and not the Cardinals. But I could be wrong.

    • @JeremyParish
      @JeremyParish  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Sean697 You're wrong. The blue-and-red uniform was an iconic look for the Cardinals from 1982-84, when this game was developed.

    • @briandecker3994
      @briandecker3994 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jeremy Parish Out of curiosity, what side are you on in the great Team A debate?
      When I added that stuff to the Wikipedia page, I listed the Houston Astros. The jerseys would technically be the "rainbow" unis, but that doesn't fit the sprite template. They made the playoffs in 80 & 81, so they'd be a relevantish choice.
      Somebody has since changed it to the Oakland A's on the page, but I imagine they would've gone with green or yellow unis if that was the intention.

    • @JeremyParish
      @JeremyParish  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brian Decker Wouldn't the early '80s California Angels uniform (light grey jerseys with dark grey trim) be most appropriate fit for the grey-on-grey team A? I definitely remember the funky '70s green and yellow look of the Oakland As around that time, so that seems an unlikely match.

    • @briandecker3994
      @briandecker3994 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jeremy Parish The Angels! Wow, I didn't even consider them for some reason. I probably forgot that they ever had anything other than red caps and I didn't realize they had any good teams in the early 80s. That would totally work, "solves" the problem of needing 3 AL and 3 NL teams (if that's something Nintendo even considered), and even anticipates realignment by ~10 years by picking a team from every division.

  • @budz2355
    @budz2355 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Blue and red I might argue as the Cubs, not the Cardinals.

    • @JeremyParish
      @JeremyParish  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Powder blue plus red? I’m a baseball idiot, but even I know that’s the Cardinals ‘80s look.
