It was strange how much Chester's suicide affected me, and in a way still does, since I never actually knew him, and he sure as hell didn't know me. But as someone who has suffered from- and still deals with- depression, I finally had someone who understood me. His pain was mine, his screams represented all this pent-up anger and frustrations that I wouldn't let myself release. I'm in a much better place now, and it's in large part thanks to his music. I wonder if this song was some sort of mantra that he kept saying to himself to find a reason to keep on living, and it breaks me to know that it wasn't enough. I can only hope that he's found relief, and his family has found peace. Because it's not easy. It never is.
