I just wanted to note that Utawarerumono Zan was only just announced for a Steam release for 2025. It's not actually out for PC, yet. I'm hoping it does well enough so that Zan 2 can finally come over.
I wish Zan 2 would get an English release. I have the Japanese version via collectors edition, alongside the rest of my rather large Utawarerumono collection, and it's a massive upgrade over the first Zan game.
@mickmars8319 That's because the last boss has MANY cheap skills and the characters are VERY unbalanced, the only ones that are worth spending something besides Alto and the witches (they are obligatory in the last battle) are Rusty and Nonoka, any other and you are probably screwed...
I actually purchased Utawareumono Zan while watching you play it on the channel. I was asking you questions about it in the chat, and based on what you told me I ordered a PAL copy and received it a couple of weeks ago. Not sure when I'll actually get to it, as I have a HUGE backlog of games dating all the way back to the PS3, Vita, and 3DS, but I'll get around to it eventually. Right now I'm playing Monochrome Mobius on the PS5, which I also bought after seeing your review here on the channel. I'm about halfway through and having a blast with it!
There is actually one old but gold Tactics TBS JRPG called Vanguard Bandits (or Epic Stella in Japan) It is from ps1 era you can play it on emulator and it's fantastic. It's also has smth like wiki online where you can learn more about game mechanics and lore. It also has a great soundtrack imo
Love Shining Force Exa and Neo. There is a third one that never left Japan called Shining Winds. It plays the same, but never even got a fan translation. I couldn't get very far because of that.
Ambitions of Illuminous! I remember finishing the game when it came out and being sad... cause the rest of the story was only online. Thanks for the list Erick, I'll have to look some of these over.
SOL Trigger awesome game & I played it with no fan translation so I don't know anything in terms of understanding the words as i dnt speak Japanese but thank to each skill having a symbol I got the hang of it pushed forward and beat the game. If it ever comes on Switch am buying it to really take in the story.
ATOI was the jam and the nice thing was they didnot stop you from playing with players who did have aoti or not for a good year dont know about later man i miss that game 60%+ of my friends list was from psu
this video show us that cdi games have great music... oh!, and that there are a lot of rpg's that are overshadowed or unknown for many reasons, glad eric tries to bring them to light, keep up the good work eric!. ¡Cesar Sapeeeee!.
Utawarerumono Zan is coming to steam soon which is great. Currently playing through Mask of Deception, and i bloody love musou games so really looking forward to getting my hands on it next year. Shining force EXA looks fun even though i heard it's frustrating as hell(pretty sure you mentioned in other video about the defense missions or something), will probably have to grab undubbed iso and try the game out. Glad you liked Sol Trigger, that game was great, hope someone will finish the patch one day, hell, if i had the know-how i'd do it myself.
Utawarerumono Zan is not a JRPG though, its Musou or Warriors type game where you have hordes of enemies and blow them all away with flashy moves. Ther IS an actual Utawarerumono normal JRPG and it's calles Monochrome Mobius and is a prequel to Mask of Deception
Does Monochrome Mobius assume you have prior lore knowledge? I picked it up not knowing it's an Utawa game and want to know if I have to play either of the Utawa Mask games first.
@@TheBlackSeraph I'm currently playing through it now (at 48% story completion according to my PS5), and I've not found myself having any difficulties and this is the very first game in the series. I had no prior knowledge going into it and I'm doing fine.
It looks like an awesome game, and I was getting in the mood to download and play it - but then Erick said it isn't fully translated, which is very unfortunate and sad. I wonder uf we'll ever get a 100 percent patch aome day.
I'll probably played some of these games have my system not gone out my PS4 got busted a lot of my other systems busted I don't have the money to replace them😅
Man, I finished Shining Force Exa, and idk why it was ok, not hard, maybe I grinded well, rewarding too. The only Shining game I played till the end. Thanks for giving some light to it. Love the visuals as well 😊
9:35 Hey, Erick, I have good news about Sol Trigger. It's about the glitch you said. if you choose the Sophy's route or Emma´s the glitch will occur. The translator team just subbed the true route, I'm speaking about the Fran's route. That's the only way you can enjoy the final chapter 80% subbed in english. The next thing I'm going to say wil be in spanish. You guys use the google translator.
Just wanted to say, thank you for talking about Sol Trigger, is a Pity It is not well known i believe it's a pretty competent game. Edit:nearly forgot the soundtrack rocks!!
I've played, and own, the other 3 games. I just haven't played Zan.... or the weird prequel. I've also played Exa. It was pretty decent, if kinda meh, gameplaywise. I also played both PSU and Ambitions of the Illuminus. I didn't play Sol Trigger cuz the fan TL was abandoned... So, yeah, not worth it.
Oh I played Sol Trigger recently on my psp, loved it but didn't even finish the first part since I got disappointed the second part was not translated, and there was a lot "non-important" dialogues missing :c. In my delusion I'm hoping for a steam remake/port or something like that
No mention of the 1st Tears to Tiara games in the PS3 that was ported to the PSP later? The 3rd game Tears to Tiara 2 was at least localized but the 1st 2 that I'm playing now is good. Though the PS3 version of the 1st game seems to focus on Variation and Graphics the PSP version challenges as unlike the original PS3 the PSP version has a battle ranking that the PS3 Sequel has. as well the former does not have the fourth Difficulty Devil Mode that the PSP has as I did not see that difficulty mentioned in the ps3 guides I saw. Also, you can transfer some of your prequel files equip and money before starting the Bonus Dungeon of the Sequel that also locks your difficulty too hard (Not tested the PS3 version on this yet.) Not much video on TH-cam on the 1st game especially the 2nd unlike TTT2 which I guess is no surprise as TTT2 was localized in English but since the 1st game is the expanded version of the anime which already has subs and dubs I would have thought that one would have some pull as well like TTT2.

Shining Force exa really isn't hard at all. it's just that after every storyline event you need to take both characters around the Fortress to talk to everybody and get all the hidden items. and then grind.
Most People struggles on the defensive phase of the geo fortress because o not using the core metal to prioritise lvl up, defense and recorvery of the geo fortress to take less to no damage, also random equipement stats drop can be a Hard to get the stats u want
EXA was the last Shinging Force game ive beaten and i absolutly loved it--the main driving force being the story and all the different equipent. To this day, whenever i make a mage character in an MMO, i put "La Vaes" title in their name

Nobody played Growlanser. It's so good
more people should talk about luminous arc and its spiritual successor stellar glow
Stella Glow was great. I really liked that one. I'll have to try Luminous Arc.
Stella Glow was very good, but latter battles were BS. I watched the ending(s) on TH-cam.
fr luminous arc 1, 2 were some of my childhood games on the ds.
Yeah stella glow is Great!

What I wouldnt do for a remaster or remake for Sol Trigger and Grands Knights History on Switch and modern hardware.
Sol trigger is the pinacle of Fps view turnbased tbh it was incredible.

Sol Trigger kicked my ass pretty hard in some bosses.
Good game but it has some annoying difficulty spikes.
I played a bit of Utawarerumono once. I also remember playing Phantasy Star Universe back on the 360
oh Utawarerumono mentioned!

One of the best OSTs ever

I put soo many hours in Shining Force EXA. Killing many mobs can't satisfied me enough once you are overpowered.
