Massive Fail by DJI to not allow larger areas of download. Absolutely ridiculous to have to download a map every time you travel. Thanks for the video though
I just got the rc today and having two rc1 remotes with an iPad mini 6, old Samsung gs8+, and my current iPhone 14 Pro max I’m now really starting to regret this. I haven’t even flown with it yet. Lol. 128GB and I can’t download a 20 mile radius which is like 1mb. It’s super finicky to try and make the rectangle larger. I finally got it to cover all of Long Island bc why wouldn’t I want the entire island I live on saved so it’s always accessible? So I have to literally sit here and stitch together all these little 5 block radius chunks that measure a few KB each? The remote feels way cheap compared to the rc1. And I passed up the great Costco deal on this bc they only offer it with the rc1 which I could have sold for $80. Great. Last time i listen to the internet; “oh it’s so much better, no fiddling with your phone, no cable, no notifications, no screen dimming. Right. So just fiddle with a cheap piece of crap saving a half a mile map at a time oh and don’t forget the screen recording at a beautiful crisp 480p. Good thing I don’t screen record. The joysticks suck compared to the rc1. Even my old mavic pro and air remotes are better….. I was so excited to use this one “easy” remote for my air2s, mini 3 pro, and mini 2. At this rate I might sell it and use one of my two trusty RC1’s. You’ll totally miss golden twice daily faffing about with these tiny maps. Sorry I don’t want to fly without a map. I use it extensively
Thanks for sharing this useful information as I was flying my mini 4 pro today and decided to use the find my drone function. After landing my drone in a different location I tried to use find my drone on the maps and could only see the a blue dot on the maps with no details of what area it was in, so you have answered my question for me. Thank you and good bless.
Terrible to realize in the midst of a search and apprehension operation that I couldn't use the maps after a firmware update. Deputies asking about specific areas, and I had no way to reference them flying at night with IR only. Will definitely be downloading our entire county offline. Thank you!!! DJI M300
Thx for this tutorial - but I actually can't get my preloaded maps into 'camera view'. And once I click on the map (left lower corner) I just always get the world map, my preloaded maps don't appear. So all I can do is to zoom into the world map to get my location which is a hassle. Would you have a clue?
That is awesoome Shawn! Thank you for the great information on downloading maps. I have the RC controller with the Mini 3 Pro and cannot wait to try this out.
Well that is all intuitive, nevertheless useful for one or other anyways. If you want to add additional and probably deep value, please explain how to select a bigger area, because with that little rectangle, one get old until e.g. a farmes field has been downloaded. Thanks and Good luck.
In case we don't download the offline maps and we need to use the 'find my drone' feature out on the field is it going to work and give us an accurate trace of the drone without maps real view?
Hey Shawn, Thanks for the video, it helped me out a lot.. I have a question. Is it possible to download a larger area at a time? I know that the internal storage is mainly for the controller's OS, I haver a 32GB mini SD card that the downloaded maps are saving on. Anyways, Just trying to down load the smaller area is kind of tedious.
Idk. It is super finicky to get a larger rectangle. There’s no real gestures. I just got this rc today with my mini 3 pro and I’m regretting already not sticking with two RC1 remotes I already own for my air 2s and mini 2. I was finally able to save more than a 5 block radius consisting of a 100 kb or so. I got an 18 MB download. I have a 128 gb sd card in there and I just want to make a map of my island. It’s not that big. Wtf? This isn’t looking good.
Hey @@leopoldpoppenberger8692, So that what I have tried. The problem is that when you shrink the screen to a certain point, the "Download Square" starts shrinking with the screen limiting the download area. It strikes me that this is such a clunky way for dji to implement the maps. I bet they'll automate this in the future such that it will do map downloads in the background when you're not flying.
Today a bad experience made me look this video up. Home point was set to where I took off from and eventually I had the drone hover about a mile away as I had someone drive the car along the road. After this I flew a bit more around and when I went to return to home, it flew to where I took off from. This is entirely my fault, however it’s just one of those human errors to forget to reset the home position. I looked on the map and saw it was returning to home and didn’t think anything of it until I noticed I was losing connection. At that point I realized home wasn’t where I was and this would’ve easily been recognized had I had the maps downloaded.
