The most beautiful car ever. My mom had a black 61 convertible Impala. I was 4 and remember driving across Canada in it and washing it. Even as an adult it's just so beautiful to me.
The '61 4-door hardtop was my first car. I loved it, and ran up way over 100,000 miles on it. Ran like a trooper, and I could actually look at the engine and work on it. I still wish I had not sold it in 1980!
My Mom had a '61 Chevy Impala bubble top. I loved that car. I'd love to have one, but that car was from a different time, and I prefer to look ahead and remember where I came from.
My dad bought the family a 1961 Bel-Air 4-door sedan. Six, Powerglide 2-speed, Tan exterior and interior. AM/FM radio, whitewalls. That's it. Paid $3,150. The car ran Very Well, always started, even in coldest winter. It was clear to us why Chevy's were so popular: Value.
My parent's first brand new car was a 1961 Chevrolet Biscayne 2 door sedan with a 6 cylinder engine and 3 on a tree! It was the car I was brought home in when I was born in 1964.
I am 66 years old and I am a baby boomer who grew up in NYC during the Mad Men era. They don't make commercials like this anymore. Nowadays you don't even know what the commercial is all about! In Old America in Old NYC.
The best car I've ever had. Sky Aqua with the white stripe. 4 door, 283 V8, 210 hp, dual exhaust, 2 speed automatic. It didn't just purr, it hummed. R.I.P. 1961-1996
This was car advertisement. Right to the point and key detail about the car they are selling. Maybe they should try ads like these instead of giant numbers of different models rolling every which way on the ad.
When I was a kid our neighbors bought a new '61 Chevy Impala. That car was the attraction of the neighborhood. Those were the days GM made real cars and style was everything. Nothing like these plastic look alikes running up and down the roads today.
What a bunch of crap, boy, how the GM people put the wool over our eyes. My Aunt had a 1961 Bel Air and it was slow and rocked a lot from the cheap springs and shocks. My mother had a 1960 Corvair and you could not kill that car, it ran forever, even when over 10,000 on oil changes. Go Chevy!!
1961 was the year of big change...not only cutting all the fancy gingerbread such as chrome and fins, but also mass produced shoddiness as well which continued through the 60's. Muscle cars had the engines, but their chassis had a lot to be desired and were subjected to frequent maintenance! All American makes were subjected to this back then!
I just saw this same commercial on the Route 66 classic episodes DVD. Love those old Chevy tv ads! LOL at the "new vinyl foam cushion seats"... what did they have inside the seats before?

Owned it in '61. Wish I had it in '08.

Those great cars for 1961 first arrived at Chevrolet dealerships in the fall of 1960.
Love this Ad! Love the Car, Love the music....My Dad's first brand new car was a 1961 Chevy, the first new car I ever rode in! :O)
Such a beauty. None of this new shit will ever come close to these old girls.

Man I'm 20 and a college student and I don't think I've ever seen a car ad that made me think that from my lifetime...its sad really.

Futuristic even today. Add current safety features and you will have a winner in 2021!
That model really took a quantum leap...did away with all the gingerbread, like the chrome, fins and curves which was last seen in '59 and '60 models!
thumbs up if you are mexican watching this high on pcp stuck in the past

Brutally satisfying!!!
A real improvement after the silly 1959-1960.
Those were a knee-jerk reaction to the 57 fin cars from chrysler.
They use to have metal springs and felt padding, eventually the springs would break and poke through.
Ulalla..... Jossss.
The SS 409 was where it was at though!

Tim Klein those hey days will come again. It's up to us, America will always be America!
The 61's looked cheap and awkward in design compared with the 62, 63, and 64's !
