    Best I have seen so far, you just gave me a idea that relieves me of the COST factor and the ' Is it worth it" thing. I don't need a tire changer for more than a few hours every few months or so, I thought, would it be worth going to all the trouble and using up the space around here just for that.
    But Now looking at what you built there, I see I can build a tire changer, that is also a wood splitter and possibly a press, I can use all of those things here so I would get a ton more usage out of this type of set up. Thanks man!

    Nice machine! That cylinder would make a great forging press.

    • @confabrication
      @confabrication  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The action would be too slow I think, OrionsAnvil, and the full force is only one tonne with 100 psi air pressure.I think a hammering machine would be the way to go for forging.

      @@confabrication Do you know what size the cylinder bore is? I'm looking to make similar bead breaker with a 100mm cylinder. If my calculations are correct it'll do 750KG at max pressure of 150PSI. Do you think that would be enough?

    • @confabrication
      @confabrication  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phil7791 My cylinder bore is 6" with a 1 1/2" diameter piston rod. I calculated that the downward force (taking into account the area of the rod, as the pressure is acting on the back side of the piston) at 100 p.s.i. is 2650 Lbs (1202 Kg).
      So with your set up you'd have 5/8 of the pressure I'm getting. As to whether this is enough, that is the $64,000 question - probably o.k. for tyres that haven't 'bonded' themselves to the rim. Tyre size is not really a factor, I've found Hope this is of some help.

    • @confabrication
      @confabrication  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In answer to Kevin Norman - A hydraulic cylinder could be designed in, but unless it was powered by an electric pump, it would be very slow to operate. I used the air cylinder simply because I had one. These are usually available second hand if you try looking, and it's the way I'd recommend you go.
