- MTV's The Challenge has been on television since 1998. With 38 seasons in the books I thought this would be a good time to give my personal rankings of MTV's The Challenge series as a whole.
I rank all the main The Challenge seasons that have premiered so far. And these rankings are from my own perspective and personal opinion. This The Challenge rankings list/series is purely subjective. Please do not get angry about where I place any of The Challenge seasons in my rankings. But I would love to hear where everyone else has their rankings and have fun discussions about The Challenge seasons and show in general so please comment below with your own rankings as we go along in this series.

I think Invasion deserves to be at least that high. We got the return and redemption of CT, a lot of fans didn't know if he would ever come back after Diem passed. The flower ceremony on the anniversary of her passing is an iconic and I think often forgotten challenge moment that always makes me cry like a baby. It was the beginning of a new era for CT and that alone gives the season major points in my opinion.

The Sarah Betrayal stands out in my mind. Fans of Bananas insist that Sarah stole money from him but all she did was put him into elimination not out of the game. Other male players have done the same thing but Bananas does not hold onto a grudge against them like he does the his grudge against Sarah. The only thing that explains the hate so much is that a woman did it and Bananas ego could not take a female outmaneuvering him. I wonder if it embarrasses him that he would not have been in the winners position if not for Sarah?
Yeah that convo comes up a lot in comment sections. It’s insane to equate putting another team into elimination to taking all the money from your own teammate… some fans reallllyyyy do mental gymnastics to make Johnny not a dick in that situation.
Johnny had had a history of being terrible to women up until then as well, so I dont know why anyone thinks thats a stretch for him. The way he treated Susie in The Ruins and pretty much everyone on The Island. Also, the way he gaslights every single girl hes involved in a showmance with, the dude is a total asshole.

Battle of the Bloodlines has somehow survived another round
I loved dirty 30. It was also one of my first seasons.
Battle of the Seasons 2002 is the most underrated season of all because it's so old. Once they get down to the final 6 pairs it becomes an elite season. Getting Miz, Coral, Theo Von, Timmy, Emily, Sean and Dan S. in the spotlight for 7 episodes was such a treat.
I still think Total Madness would have been way better if they hadn't edited out all the Dee scenes. She was involved in a lot of drama that season. They could have just cut ties with her and said they don't agree with her actions or something. They pretty much ruined the season by making her one of the stars of the season, showing us previews of her drama all season then cutting her out almost completely so we didn't get to see any of it.

Invasion of the champions was great because we saw Darell smoke zach and johnny at physical eliminations. I love seeing zach and jonny lose.

I really admire your content. You are clearly such a true fan, which is refreshing to watch. The way you do tiny table talks makes it feel like I have a friend who understands one of my favorite shows 😅 I've been watching for about 3 years, since Covid started. You really resparked my interest in the show at that point, and I've been watching since. The Cara series was TOP TIER and I'd love to see more of those kind of videos with other players if you feel you have the time to dedicate to more. Much love!

Invasion is a top 10 season. I seriously considered quitting the show after Rivals 3 but Invasion rekindled my love for The Challenge

I love dirty 30 but the way they revealed the winner through the after/recap show was TERRIBLE
And the Finals weren't that great, if the finals were great I would've ranked it top 10 or even top 5.
Hot take: I love Total Madness for some reason. Stacked cast, great twist, good challenges and eliminations, good drama. Cool aesthetic. I get why they did it but it was unfortunate Dee got edited out right when she got betrayed as we didn't get to see the backlash. Also sucks that the final was cut short due to a blizzard. For some reason I just love this season but I do see why others don't.
Agreed. Total Madness is in my top 5 favorite seasons. I love it for many of the same reasons you listed. Elite season.

Finally someone is talking about the Ashley curse. It took Bananas seven seasons to win again and Ashley did five seasons in a row since she stole the money and didn't win anything. If she wins it after seven seasons as well then it can't be a coincidence😂but I'm not sure she can win again.

Dude!!! I loved Dirty 30, that season was dirtiest season you have ever seen!
It's weird to not mention Dee at all when you talk about WOTW2 and Total Madness, especially when you talk about Camila who has a way longer problematic history. Dee was central to almost all the story lines in TM, and them just editing her out completely towards the end of the season without addressing it at all brings the season down. Especially when they cut out almost 30 minutes of an episode for American region, but aired it uncut in Canada, and didnt think people would notice? Also them sticking Jenny, one of the most physically fit competitors, to alternate after winning, and keeping Kouch (Kaycee) around is crazy.

the way you talk and your knowledge i would think you were an og fan! so it surprised me you just started in dirty 30 but that goes to show how much research you do. rivals 2 was my first challenge haha but i did go back to watch the older szns too ❤

yeah Invasion was an amazing season, iconic eliminations that we may never have gotten if not for that season.
Don't hate your placement of Invasion. It's a lot better than people give it credit for.
Never really got the criticism of the format bc we saw the bloodbath The Ruins turned into when it was Champ vs Challenger. Plus we got some classic matchups with Darrell going up against Zach, Bananas and CT. And I loved the bloodbath elims right before the final
My only complaint would be I wish they'd had 2 champs in the final. A pretty good crop goes to maybe all time great if we have Darrell and Laurel in the pool also

Love seeing how you rank the seasons. My biggest complaints, ruins and cutthroat are both top 10 seasons in my book. FINAL reckoning is a slog even on a binge, it’s an easy 25+ for me. WotW2 should be below rivals 3 imo.

I completely agree that Double Agents is the best of the more recent seasons, the storyline throughout of the rookie women being underestimated and Amber B cutting through and winning was honestly really satisfying to me
Invasion of Champs was my first season back to watching Challenge after not watching since the Island.
It got me back into show abd then i watched the seasons i missed. It had the potential to be an all time season but they just screwed the format so bad. Was great outside of format errors.

As someone who has WOTW2 in his top 5, I can see why people would rate it in the middle of the pack. The only point I disagree on is the 3 for cast, There are so many champions, and people who've been to a final in the cast along with good competitors on paper. I admit there are duds such as Sean, Nicole, Esther. Faith leaving early after a decent Final Reckoning season and Zahida having to leave didn't help either.
The rest of the cast carries the season enough, and if you check any other cast with this large of a roster you are bound to find a couple duds as well.

War of The Worlds 2 is criminally low. It's easily a Top 5 season for me.

In terms of drama FR delivered but Paulie and Natalie making the finals is almost like Natalie making the final 3 on survivor winners at war. They spent the whole season doing nothing and almost won the money.

I'd put Total Madness above Double Agents. Because for the most part, Double Agents was meh outside of entertaining moments from Kyle, Big T, Devin and Kam/Leroy. Also it was extremely obvious that CT was going to win that season if he made the final and it seemed like after episode 1, the rest of the cast just stopped trying to get him out. Total Madness, before having to edit Dee out, the case could've been made it was a borderline top 10 season. The 2nd half of the season is also pretty solid. Heck, I'd even put it above Dirty 30, which I thought was a meh season given some of the cast that they had. Also, Cutthroat is probably the most overrated season ever lol.
Invasion is probably the most disappointing "what could've been" Challenge season of all time. Production botched the format. I think once the Champs were brought in, instead of being down 4 people to the Underdogs, they should've either been equal or down only 2 people. Also not having the Underdogs have to face Champs in eliminations is such a massive miss. Because with that, we could seen champs like Bananas, Cara Maria or Zach taken out by an Underdog in an elimination creating a big moment, or we could've gotten a stacked final, maybe of all time, of say CT, Bananas and Darrell with Laurel, Cara Maria and Camilla. Or a mix of the two. But production dropped the ball.
War of the worlds 2 definitely top 5. Final reckoning should be dead last.

I hated War of the World's 2 when it first aired, now that I've rewatched a couple times it's become one of my favorite seasons.
I thought of a way to fix the redemption house in final reckoning. Have the team coming back from redemption essentially be mercenaries. Still keep the double cross, whoever pulls it gets to go into elimination against whoever the house voted in. All other redemption teams go home, if the redemption team loses the elimination they’re out of the game. If they win, they re enter the house and the losing team goes to redemption

Since we're on the topic of Battle of the Seasons (2002), I have a question, Drew: Why didn't Belou and her kid come on Ride or Dies?
First time I watched War of the Worlds 2 was a couple months ago and it is a good season IF you can get over the amount of whining they put into the edit. I think the dailies were decent the final was pretty good and even the strategy was pretty good even if it didn't make logical sense which is why it was nice to see when it blew up in their faces. If the show uses less time featuring players venting about losing the political game, that season could easily be top 12.
I'm sorry but 32 is my bias, i had fun. Loved the chaos, loved the Same and Mix gendered pairings. Natalie/Paulie being able to come back again was funny asf to me. Hope they do it again (I'll admit i don't like that Ashley/Hunter got to come into the gane so late though) 😭💀

I think dirty 30 was a good season but total madness to me wasn’t good cause it was predictable gameplay and jay been send in three times was just scared gameplay
Personally, I have a major problem with the formal of WOTW2 and Vendettas where people who win the daily challenge can end up in elimination. Vendettas could have easily had individual challenges rather than the winning team making the Troika. When it's a format like The Ruins, and all of the matchups are team vs team, there is still a motive to win the daily with bank accounts and power that just isn't there with Vendettas/WOTW2.

Am I the only one who thinks that the recent series started all to blend in. I can tell you exactly what happened in battle of the exes, but I don't remember shit from seasons ago. Before, we got real challengers whose flawed personalities were on full display. We got raw emotions good and bad. Nowadays, the show is heavily edited. The challengers walk on eggshells so they don't say or do the wrong thing, and it's all for show and followers. Yes, all reality shows are staged, but The Challenge had this quality that isn't there anymore.

I loved the ice cream challenge in Gauntlet 1. It was gross.
You were in college during dirty 30 wow, that makes me feel old. The 1st ever season that I watched was Season 5 Battle of the Seasons. I watched it in real time as it aired. I watched the challenge from Season 5 through Season 12 fresh Meat. After Fresh Meat, I went on a 10 year hiatus. I got back into the challenge for Season 28 Rivals 3. I then went and did my research, and watched every single Season. It took sometime to locate all of them. Back in 2016 Seasons 1-6 you to be on TH-cam then I guess once MTV got tipped off all of a sudden those videos started to get blocked. I then purchased a jail broken fire stick and streamed Season 13-27 with the exception of season 14.
Forgive me, but that ice cream challenge on the gauntlet was disgusting to watch. I saw someone's snot drip onto the ice cream, with people still eating the ice cream afterwards. *puke* I would rather watch slow motion throw up then that ever again.
Sarah saw and opportunity to screw over Bananas when it was presented to her even over Jordan's dismay. Bananas saw an oppounity to screw over Sarah when it was presented to him so in my eyes it's even Steven. The slight difference is Sarah become a 2 time champ as a result.
If you see it as even steven in your eyes, I assume youre blind. Sarah didnt eliminate Johnny, or take his money. He lost an elimination. Sarah never stood a chance when he STOLE her half of the money that she was equally responsible for getting. If you cant see how thats not even in the same ballpark, then youre just white knighting for Bananas and its laughable.
@Roger Fink again, an opportunity was taken to screw over a friend, and that friend screwed them back... unless among friends the first person to screw over their friend, they need to take it on the chin and move on?. Eye for an eye seems appropriate.
Rivals 3 should be top 10 bananas taking the money was one of the craziest things I’ve seen I remember just staring at my tv in shock. Even if people are Sarah fans or bananas fans we all can agree it was the most entertaining ending to a season
There was zero entertainment in seeing Bananas screw Sarah over like that. It disgusted me, it didnt entertain me. Id put Rivals 3 even lower personally. The season was boring overall with how dominant Bananas and Sarah were, then that awful ending.

War of the worlds 2, you forgot the look on joss and Kayleigh when they loss the swimming challenge to Leroy and kam and being purge….karma at its finest….so shamed joss and Kayleigh hasn’t come back since!!! 😂. I have to disagree with you, too me vendetta was one of the worse…I guess I’m looking at the final was truly boring, but the eliminations were great.
I always wished that Anthony from AYTO would come back after invasion of the champions. He performed pretty well.
Final Reckoning and Vendettas is WAY too high. The face that’s its over Gauntlet 1 is crazy. The purge challenge ruined us really seeing how Verconia and CT would do as a team. And the way they handled the redemption house was stupid. Why have so many people in there if only two can compete? It was crazy.
I actually think FR and Dirty 30 are better than Vendettas entertainment wise

What do you mean "rigged ending"?!! there was no rigged ending.
@@soheiladam7510 uh the team that won all season had to carry a lot of extra weight which is the definition of unequal and unfair. On top of that, team USA got a bad edit all season long and none of the logic made sense. Then pretty much most of the members of Cara’s cult didn’t get casted again while productions favorites have been casted over and over again.
Pretty obvious who production favors and that the ending was rigged on purpose. On top of that, Paulie/Cara have even said production wanted them to team up with Tori and Jordan. And we all know Tori has been pushed as the female face of the franchise ever since her intro even hosting the official podcast. So yeah
wrong. Ashley didn't "deserve" to take anything from Hunter. She wouldn't have won without him and fate wise without Amanda's selflessness for her own good. She wasn't angellike either even if Hunter was toxic too. I'm so disappointed Drew that you don't keep that same energy for her like you do for Bananas. Ik you've done better than this though. Not too shabby of rankings though

A few comments:
Dirty 30 is in top 10, maybe top 5. Camilla is a problem for PC reasons and should have been off show earlier, but it does not take away from the season that much for what is otherwise a phenomenal season.
Total Madness was actually a pretty good season for the 1st 2/3 of the season until the utterly rediculous Dee-letion (prob the worst thing Challenge production has ever doen). It was not necessary at all whatever you think of Dee and no one would have noticed or been offended it they just played the season in it's entirely. They can make their points in social media (or even make statement at end of the eps if they so choose) and not had her return, but don't intentionally destroy a pretty good season for what amounts to a grand virtue signal.
It's really difficult to compare very early seasons 1-9 and later seasons, almost like an entirely different show. I personally would prefer to watch mid-newer seasons and would not have mixed them in the rankings (need separate list).
WOW2 was very good and for me prob top 10.
