So after more research, The 15-60 second adjustable interval on RFX GATEWAY only applies to the wired ambient probe attached to GATEWAY. Inside the settings menu for RFX MEAT you will find a temperature based adjustable interval that ranges from 1° - 3°. You should receive wireless updates any time a sensor inside RFX MEAT changes by the selected interval. Get the RFX here -> www.smokedbbqsource.com/thermoworks-rfx/
Nice video. I always expect the carryover of 10-15 degreed F. So I set my alarms accordingly. Used the RFX yesterday and got great results. left the probe in the meat until resting was over and temp starting to come back down.
Great review Jeff! - RFX Looks like an excellent unit - I'm a Meater man myself, but that's just me. 🙂 I've had excellent results with Costco ribeyes using the 2-2-2-2-and rest for 5 method for years on a 650F grill - I don't even temp it anymore - very repeatable.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the app "issue" with having to bounce back and forth between the Gateway and each individual probe. Coming from a MeatStick 4X, yeah its kind of annoying, but the build quality, accuracy, and connectivity make up for it by a landslide. Here's hoping for an app update in the near future.
Heck ya!!! I would think that in the future they come up with a more robust app similar to the Meater but like you said, it is very accurate!! Thanks for watching!!
The trick I have learned is to set the probe to go off 10° lower then my final meat temp. On MEATER+ I will set the target temp to 115°. The steak will rest for 5-10 minutes will usually keep cooking for another 10mins and hit 125-130°. If I go a step further and sear the sides of the steak for about 1min typically cooks up to 135° while resting the 5-10min. So I would need to set the temp another 2-3° lower (112°) on the set temp to bring it under 130°
GREAT REVIEW JEFF , HAVE YOU GOT YOUR HANDS ON THE FIREBOARD VERSION YET ? I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO IT TO GO WITH MY LSG PELLET AND STAND ALONG FIREBOARD AND THE SPARK , HOPE YOU CAN GET ONE OF THOSE AND DO A REVIEW SOON THANKS FOR THE INFO .
So after using it a couple more times, I see that on the probe it updates every 1 degree. But when grilling it jumped around 10 degrees in 5 minutes while resting. Like I said, I never use an inserted probe when grilling, I just check it when I feel it is getting close. I have started pulling the the steaks when they reach 118°. It is very accurate!! Thanks for watching!!
Please do a test on how long the batteries last. Multiple people are reporting only 8 to 12 hours. Far short of the 60+ hours promised. Makes it tough to use for low and slow smokes.
I plan to test them over night but it won't be for a while. I got 3 of them now so I can check and just leave one out in the studio to see how it performs! Thanks for watching!
Hi, thanks for your time and effort. Wish you would have tested out the distance and also the Bluetooth distance main reason I'm considering this is because the meter is always disconnecting. If you can do an update video on the distance would be awesome.
This was just our 'first look' video, will be sure to test both out in our full review! Might even do a comparsion video comparing this with the Meater.
If you're going to monitor ambient temperature, the range from probe to gateway is ~4 feet. Range from gateway to your phone is going to depend on your wifi range.
The ambient temperature probe not showing up on the same screen, or in the same chart as the meat probe, unless you go back to the Devices screen, is kinda annoying. I’m used to the Signals, and having everything on the same screen and chart is way more handy.
Agree and I hope that is something they work on in the near future!! It does work good but they need to make the app more user friendly!! Thanks for watching!!
Respectfully you don’t use it right. In each probe you can set how often your probe transmits back to your RFX. So for a steak sear, you want to choose 1 second and you won’t see the crazy jumps. For smokes or longer cooks, you choose 1 minute. If you choose the shorter times like 1 second, it kills the battery faster.
Thermoworks informed me that the probe itself reports every change but the actual gateway that I changed only sends the info to the cloud. Anyways that was right out of the box testing it and it works great and very accurate! Thanks for watching!

I will be doing a Meater review on the Pro soon!!! The Pro is certainly better than the OG!!! Thanks for watching, Garry!!!!
Looks like this is going to be a "must have"! Thanks for the top review.
It certainly is nice to have it!!! I think I am going to order a 2nd one!!! Thanks for watching!!
I think this ones for me when I'm ready. Great review Jeff.
Thanks brother!!! I am pretty impressed with how accurate it is!!!!

Bingo!! The reason these carried over a tad on me I had the temp set too high. Very impressed how good these work! Thanks for watching!

Yes I will be getting the FireBoard version also!! Excited to see how they preform too!! Thanks for watching, Rod!!!!
How often did the RFX update when the temps were rising quickly during the sear?

@@SmokedBBQSource I'm supposed to get one of these in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to comparing notes.
Very interesting and great video going to have to try this
They are very nice to have!!! Thanks for watching!
I had the same experience with a Meater Gen1. Not covered under warranty 😢. Done with that brand!
Ya but mine got wrecked from user error. 100% my fault!! Thanks for watching!

Think you can use the probe in a filet? Or is the required insertion too long?
It will have to be a pretty big fillet. Thanks for wathcing!
I still have no idea when this will be released in the UK!!! Might have to get the new Meater block
I am not sure either!! I hope soon!!!! I plan to do the new Pro Meater review soon too!! Thanks for watching!

Gen X don’t care if it works or not.
Hahahaha some truth to that!! Thanks for watching!!
Who taught you how to cook a steak ffs
