Lei main since Tekken 2 and I hope he's on every base roster from now till the heat death of the universe. By then he'll have about 200 stances and playing him will require a PhD and an IV drip.
I love lei. He definitely deserves his reputation as a party animal type character but thats cuz thats literally Jackie chans style in all his movies lol, but he's also tricky to play because he gets blown up by randomly ducking, he has like 0 +frame moves that do anything for him and he's always unsafe, even if a move looks safe or even plus, u can probably jab before he can do anything or even dick jab. Yea he's annoying to face but he's so easy to blow up, and he struggles to get in so if you just backdash even once, he can't reach you with anything. Literaly one single backdash and a df2 will whiff punish 99% of lei's moves, and razor rush is super easy to step/interrupt, and if he really "just spams a couple strings" then why is he so hard for everyone to fight? If its just a couple strings he spams it should be easy to learn then no? Not to mention anytime he transitions into stances he's usually neutral at the most. Which means anytime u see his stance bs u can just dick jab him out of it. Ik he won't be in 8 and yea it'll suck that he will miss a tekken game for the first time but I'm tired of everyone treating lei like he's somehow any worse than facing a Kazuya with good 50/50 pressure or zafina or even Feng, but you don't hear anyone get as mad about them as lei even tho they have wayyyy better tools for pressure and range in addition to 50/50 bs, can't we admit that fighting lei isn't as bad as everyone makes it seem? Cuz realistically it comes down to nothing but 50/50 and there are plenty of other Characters with the exact same game plan that don't get hate like lei does

As a Lei player. Lei is not hard to WIN with, he is hard to MASTER! You can win with him easily with a few flows because people don't know the matchup. But if you actually want to MASTER him, it takes way more time than most other characters. Fight against another Lei and it will often show you just how crappy your Lei is.
I want both of them in TK8. I don't play TK so I haven't fully experienced Marduk's annoying kit but I definitely don't want him to be absent. Marduk and Steve are the only two TK4 characters who have their own styles so yeah, Marduk shouldn't and won't be left out
These complaints can be made about literally any character in the game. ANY character can meme and troll. True Lei mains are still out here. We made it happen in T7, and I so hope we can make it happen in T8! -An honorable Lei main.

I like lei because he is exactly what Tekken is supposed to be about. Martial arts. This character pays a great homage to the Kung Fu and all the styles and stances. I really love characters based on martial arts even if they are annoying to play against. This versatility regarding martial arts and how people can be expressive by million different ways playing this game is what makes it the greatest fighting game of all time.
Lei exemplifies the "art" in martial arts. I'm glad that there are those in the Tekken community that still appreciate martial arts and don't yell "boring" when a character doesn't do anime shenanigans.
I mean character popularity can be affected by many factors. Their relevance in the story, their physical design, how strong they are in game, etc. There are plenty of characters in the series that weren't that popular that have gained huge followings due yo changes on the design teams end. A low pick rate could be bamcos fault as much as it is the player base
For me. Lei is one of the STAPLE Tekken characters. all of the ones based off real martial artists should be, (Marshall, Lei, etc.) should always be on the roster.

Tbh technically completely mastering Lei takes alot of time, ALOT of time. Learning all his moves, his stances. Sadly however it is quite easy to win with Lei because of his usage rate so I don't know if anyone has truly mastered this character

Lei is hard to master if you want to be creative with him. He has the biggest movelist, many stances. So yeah if you don't know him it's hard to face him, especially if your opponent is not predictable and uses his many mixups. But remember he's middle low tier ! And he's pretty unsafe ! You never cross him in tournaments !
