I really appreciate your videos. I think you can’t go wrong if you purchase either system. It’s my humble opinion that the STEG tweeters are definitely better than the Focal tweeters. In the midbass department, the Focal edge out the STEG. Overall clarity for me would be STEG as I appreciate the clarity and softness of the tweeters.

STEG sounds like ur actually in front of the instrument. Focal sounds like a great speaker....... To me the difference is obvious and the STEG sounds more realistic.

How can you asses a true representation of the sound reproduction running the midbass drivers in free air/infinite baffle? I'm sure neither are designed for that type of use.
supersportimpalass hi, most car speakers is design for free air, most installations in the car rear deck or door there is no seal, some soundproofing some not, also this video made so you could see the speaker from all angles for your reference , thanks
@@frednsound Hi, thank you for your reply. Any mount in a car is not truly free air as the door card or rear deck create a boundary between the front and rear waves of sound. The doors and trunk create somewhat of an enclosure even if they aren't perfectly sealed.
I would think mounting the midbass in a small box or open baffle would help create a better representation of the speakers true overall potential, especially in the low end.
I was researching the Focals and came across your video. I'm very interested in the Hertz and glad you posted the demonstration. I notice you have an eBay account. Now I'm up in the air again on what brand I should ultimately choose.
supersportimpalass hi, as I tried to explain before I’ll try better, you are right about the deck and wall, but each car is different volume on the doors or rear deck, it will always sound different, for those who run on deck it’s still free air (as all car speaker design different then home), so it’s always depend on what kind of installation, if I build the perfect box will never get reference for a car setup, and for my final list of each year what is good or better I do many kinds of checks before I decide, for this kind of video purpose you get to know the speaker flavor and see it from all Angles, as many brands do not offer for theirs products, I’ve tested so many, get the Steg line best ever tested, thanks

Es 165 is nice but kind of cold with eco, for now I think the St650c is the Winner.

Had ST650C in 2019 VW Tiguan. With DLS CCi44 and Morel woofer sounded great. Now I bought new 2023 Tiguan and can't decide what to get. How's the VW7C ? Are those improvement over these?

I would choose the STEG over the focal set here. The STEG sounds more mature to me. STEG is definitely going into my next project as long as Fred is here to support the Brand. Local availability is a big issue with the brand and hence marketability.

Hi fred, I have a question. To install 2 component sets, 1 is a FOCAL ES165KX3 (3way) and the other one is a FOCAL ES-165KX2 (2 way), I would need 2 amps for each component or I can use just one 4 channel amp??

Look at the specifications, STEG is now way close to focal. It's all configuring the speakers. They play bass heavy music, try to play Pop or Vocal like music.

And could you tell me something about hertz hx series, gladen sqx series, rockford fosgate punch p2, Ground Zero GZHW 20X and Audio System germany HX?

Hi Fred great videos! Are the Steg SQL650C a good set? I wouldn't be using a sub so I'm after a set that reproduces well mid bass frequency. Would they sound good if I hook them up to a ESX QS-TWO nano amp (2x52w rms)? Too small? I'm looking for quality and not volume. If you have other suggestions for mini amps I can leave in the dashboard instead of fixing them anywhere in the car please let me know thanks!

I bought the steg System st 650 c too.
And must also say that the tweeters are quite shrill, especially in electro music. Allsounds come with a hiss.

I have the focal PS165FXE Flax which is good sounding for the price, havent tuned them yet as i just got my DSP.
I can get the K2's for a bit cheaper, and im wondering:
I want warm sound, but also clear sound. I hear you say these are cold and harsh,but: Will they be better with a good tune with DSP? I want to run these in front, and FXE at the back.
I use DLS CA-CCi44 AB amp with Helix dsp 3s. What do you think? I kinda cant say no to the K2's now.. Thanks!
Hi, focal will never be warm, so it’s up to you, DSP do help but can’t change the flavor.. if you like it get it.
DLS cc is ok, not so powerful, but keep it mind it becomes very hot, so try to add some fans. Thanks for watching

While listening on headphones the Stegs have more punch to the bass but it appears at the cost of some dynamics.
I feel I can hear a lot more transitions in the bass on the focal speakers. I enjoy the amount of fidelity they have. Bass can be supplemented another way.
I do prefer the steg tweeter though. But I feel it wouldn't blend with the focal speaker

Thank you Fred, I’ve ordered the AT’s, they are going into an Italian convertible, so the woofer material might be better suited to the environment. I already have an F4-260 to drive them and I will add a sub in the future.

So what is a set of ST650C going for and where is an Authorized dealer in Los Angeles? I'd love to hear them in person. I currently have FOCAL K2P's on all 4 doors and might consider replacing them with STEGs.

Hi, first are you sure your mt650c is genuine? it’s discontinued because the fakes issues, next, check your head outputs, you may have only highs, check your amp settings, and start with flat crossovers to see if any changes, thanks

I'm using steg leo650c, without an amp, I would say the vocal and clarity of the tweeter is too good , bass is a little low, but it can be rectified with a subwoofer.. so steg is good to go , it gives quality surround music

Great video. I was considering the Focal KX2 for around 1050usd but many have said they are overpriced and a bit harsh. Any other recommendations around that price range? Thanks and keep up the good work

You can't go wrong with the focals. They are one of the best our there. Harsh is not the proper term it should be lively and instruments go pop thats why they are very much popular in the industry. Steg is good but i dont know why its not that popular yet here in Italy
Focals are brighter but if you don't bi-wire them you can just have the tweeter gain set a bit lower or turn down the output in the headunit/DSP.

I work in film/tv post production and grew up on industry standard sony headphones that would be described as clinical and very detailed. I have to assume thats why i love the K2 series. Anything "warmer" or "more musical" sounds veiled and incomplete to my ears.
