Recording Acoustic Guitar with Two matched Microphones
Tuning & Guitar Setup
Ensure the guitar is properly tuned before recording.
Use fresh strings for a clearer and brighter sound.
Microphone Selection
Use a matched pair of small-diaphragm condenser for detailed highs and articulation.
Use a matched pair of large-diaphragm condenser or another mic for warmth and body.
Microphone Placement
Position one mic near the 12th fret (6-12 inches away) for clarity.
Place the second mic near the bridge or sound hole for depth and resonance.
This is a crucial part that self-producing musicians tend to skip because it's harder, don't. experiment with mic placement locations and positioning for a better recording
Stereo Techniques (Optional)
XY Pair - Mics angled at 90° for a focused stereo image.
ORTF - Mics 17 cm apart at a 110° angle for a natural width.
Spaced Pair - Mics placed apart for a wide stereo effect (watch for phase issues).
Phase Alignment
Check for phase cancellation by listening in mono.
Adjust mic placement to ensure a balanced and natural sound.
Room Considerations
Record in a quiet space with good acoustics.
Use absorbers or diffusers to control reflections if needed.
This setup (hopfully) helps achieve a rich and well-balanced acoustic guitar recording.
