Alright, Koji Kondo. We just need another two minute castle theme for a new Mario game. Make kinda spooky, but don't scare the kids too much. Koji Kondo proceeds to write the most tragic sounding two-minute piece of music in video game music history.
Interesting fact- or rather story. A Sony engineer walked in on his child playing a NES. He thought the sound chip left a lot to be desired. So he wrangled his superiors to co-ordinate with Nintendo on this which culminated with Sony designing and making the sound chip for the SNES. The contract they drew up was with a view for them to work together on a CD addon for the SNES, but the subsequent deal fell through resulting in Sony making the playstation. The sound chip according to Koji Kondo- who wrote the music for super mario world- said the issue with the chip was that it worked well, but had no inbuilt sound fonts, so he had extra work designing those to
I didn't realize how much the sound of the castle gate opening had become, in my mind, part of the music until hearing this rendition without it. Of course you were correct to not include sound effects as part of the theme, but my brain still registered its absence. Great job nonetheless!
I won't say it not including the castle gate sound makes it bad, I love this rendition. I'd also say that Dancing Mad from FF6 just isn't right unless Kefka's laugh isn't part of the track before the song repeats. It's part of the experience.
@@WhatupitsTetra That is the perfect analogy! I'm reminded of Kara Comparetto and her Chrono Trigger soundtrack, where she voiced the "Ha!" sound effect on the Millennial Fair track. It would have just sounded wrong without it, just like Dancing Mad would sound wrong without Kefka's laugh.
This theme always got me feeling suspenseful as a kid. I especially love the part at 0:41 that always felt like a musical jumpscare, and you recreated it perfectly!
Brand new to this channel and instant fan and follow because of this sing🖤 I hope to God that Koji Kondo sees this because I know he would crack a smile. Excellent job!
As always, I appreciate the faithful reproduction of the exact song with live instruments! Too many people want to put their "artful" interpretation on our favorite songs, but you give us EXACTLY what we want. Thanks a bunch!
Is this... a *faithful* recreation of the Super Mario World Castle theme!? This is so good! It even has the smaller details like the xylophone thing and the flute!
Holy smokes man, you never fail to impress but this is insanely good even for you. It's borderline criminal that you don't have at least 10x the recognition you currently do.
This is great. A pleasant switch up to hear an orchestral version of a platformer game. I always love the RPG stuff, but wouldn’t have thought Mario music could be so dramatic.
I love the little touches - someone that cares both about the music as much as you do AND the gameplay, being that the clips chosen were ones where the player actually cared enough to do the 1up trick with the koopas on the wire frence.
I gotta say, this is one of the most faithful reproductions of this OST, and being done on violin makes this sound so melancholy, in the best way possible ❤
this is by far the best cover, not accounting for Aqua's remastered version of the original..... it is so good, the timing, the accuracy of instruments tone and mood, it's so good, the only single complaint I have is the rather cold sounding electric bass, if that wasn't there it would have been a 10/10.
Magnificent piece. I'm always impressed at how clean your productions are. You're one of the best cover artists out there. Mario World is a very nostalgic game for me, and you nailed it!
When I just saw that you uploaded that, I already knew that I would love it! It's one of my favorite pieces of the soundtrack of this great game. Some seconds before it was there, I was already anticipating that part at 1:34 that you played with the flute and it was great!
man i was so curious how you would translate the heavy snes-like sounds of this track and you did an amazing job as always sounds like something straight out of mario galaxy especially in the second half.
This music is both creepy and beautiful. The best castle theme in the entirety of Mario's franchise.
Yes.
Facts!
Real
Not
better than the original. Perfect tie.

Great song, They did wonders with the SNES sound chip.
The Super Mario World OST always felt like, "Look how many percussion tracks we have now! We can do snare drums, steel drums, AND bongos."

You are the master of the strings!

Would love to see some crazy cello bowing technique followed by a thud on the body to simulate the door!
This was honestly the most faithful cover I've come across on this tune. 10 out of 10
This theme always got me feeling suspenseful as a kid. I especially love the part at 0:41 that always felt like a musical jumpscare, and you recreated it perfectly!
yeah I raised my eyes to look at the timer more than once while listening 😂
It caught me off guard in my earbuds and went OPE THERE IT IS

This is great! only real critique is the cello slide seems to really accent the end notes, which takes away from the unsettling vibe imo
The way this is more creepy and epic with actual instrument is insane. I love it. Well done
Beautiful rendition! Surprised your strings didn't catch fire with how fast you were playing it lol
I think this is one of the most beautiful pieces Kondo has composed and you really brought it to life! Brought a tear to my eye
I can’t wait til you have 5 billion subscribers. seriously so talented
ouu now I want to hear the SMW underground theme
Amazing work as always :)
The way it amps up at the 45 second mark. HOT DAMN!

Mind-blown by this arrangement. This is the type of performance I always wanted to see for SMB4's Castle Theme.
Lovely Monday morning surprise. This is how I'd want Super Mario World's music orchestrated. Now I want to play the game with this music swapped in.
Dude... this KICKS. ASS!!!
My god, the memories. Great job, as usual
I love the little touches - someone that cares both about the music as much as you do AND the gameplay, being that the clips chosen were ones where the player actually cared enough to do the 1up trick with the koopas on the wire frence.
Thanks! The game footage was from my own play through. There are some tricks you just never forget!
Excellent instrumentation all around. Chills when that recorder entered.
This song was MADE for strings
the classiest take on this theme! you love to hear it!
CHILLS, man. CHILLS.
Fantastic orchestral rendition. This is how I hear it in my head
I gotta say, this is one of the most faithful reproductions of this OST, and being done on violin makes this sound so melancholy, in the best way possible ❤
INCREDIBLE! Pulling my heartstrings in the best way possible.
Sa!Da!Ma!Sa!Shi! You are the best violinist in the world.

that thing can be orchestrated? Man, you should go on a tour
This is mesmerizing.
Always excited to see a new video, never disappointed.
This makes me feel like I'm watching a memory of myself playing this level back in my old room as a boy.
Pretty fantastic rendition of this theme, perfect for a remake/remaster SMW. I loved it!
I've never loved this song, but this cover of it actually gave me appreciation for it!
You poured your soul into this one. I can hear nothing but perfection.
I start my week with this video without expecting it and it was the best
Magnificent piece. I'm always impressed at how clean your productions are.
You're one of the best cover artists out there.
Mario World is a very nostalgic game for me, and you nailed it!
Whenever I hear this music, I can feel the despair, the terror, the tyranny all in one melody.
Stunningly amazing also this is perfect for Halloween.
0:46 さーだーまーさーしー
might be the purest and most perfect cover of this I've ever heard.
I think Chopin and Bach and all those guys would have love this
Suddenly, I'm very happy
