So what if she glides to a note or does not sing in Czech? How many listeners even know a word of Czech? Italian is the greatest language for classical music because it flows so beautifully. When she sings "luna scomparira," one feels the loss as her crescendo like finale crashes to silence paralleling the moon' abupt departure from the beautiful night.
Except of Amira Willighagen singing this aria in English, all others gread singers performaced this in original. Nothing against Italian, but by my opinion each song or aria should be sung in language, for what was composed. Verdi in Italian Dvorak and Smetana in Czech, Wagner in German.
I'm Czech and eventhough it's naturally a little cringy to hear her singing in Czech (and butchering it) I am still grateful that she made the effort and sung it beautifully. It brings tears to my eyes and warmth to my soul.

Lucia Popp and Frederica von Stade sang in the original language. This Italian version is a shadow by comparison. Ms Brightman's voice is light and lyrical to be sure; the theatrical hand movements do nothing to help. She looks as though she's working too hard.

As for opera, I come from a family of opera followers and I've been listening and attending since I was a child, both in Europe and in the US. i don't know. this is a strange transit between pop and opera. it sounds better than popular music, but her technique isn't good, so it is and always will be only for amusement... it's a pity she doesn't sing it in czech, too. listen to real operatic voices and then judge... as for me, this definitely isn't my favourite rendition of Dvořák.

Escúchala cantanto arias de ÓPERA y luego compárala técnicamente con otras verdaderas cantantes de ópera (Anna Netrebko, por ejemplo,). Sarah Brightman tiene muy malos vicios cuando quiere cantar "operáticamente", oscurece demás la voz para hacerla más grande, siempre usa notas de escalón antes de llegar a la nota correcta, y por si fuera poco la orquesta la opaca!!!! osea, su voz es muy muy pequeña.
@@Sonia-ng6pg No she isn't. She's a "stage singer". The world of high opera can be very snooty I know, but Brightman is not in any way considered to be a 'real 'opera singer. She has a good voice for Broadway or West End musicals. I know there is some crossover these days but she is not part of the high-opera world.
I agree, she's not an opera singer. She creates her own genre of music by mixing classical, opera, and pop together. Oh, how I love her. She is so unique and an absolute angel. Opera can be hard for some people to listen to, myself included, and Sarah bridges that gap beautifully. Such heavenly music she blesses to the soul.

I really don't like it. Sarah ruined it. I listened to Lucia Popp, then came to Sarah. Rene Fleming has an excellent performance in 2009.

rene fleming sucks.... she is the COLDEST, most UNFEELING soprano I know. She is an AFFRONT to opera....sorry, but that's how I feel.
