This is a really nice perspective on classic wow! Thanks for sharing your experience. I love classic, retail, and ffxiv- all for different reasons. this is such a positive and refreshing video amidst the current content sphere of mmos!
Nice video. If it’s not by intention try use the fast loot and instant quest option in the game settings. This way you don’t need to click each item that drops, just the mob itself and you don’t need to wait the quest text appearing. Most of the times you read faster then the text shows up. Have fun :)
If you want to know where to go you read your quests. They almost always point you in the direction you need to go. Vanilla wow was not built with optimizing leveling in mind. The journey was the point.
Interesting Video, I like your style of thinking about those things. I, myself could never really get into FF14 eventho I like the FF-Series. But I can never get over WoW. This litle things like inviting people doing the same quest or just trashtalking while doing a dungeon is really fun. Retails feels alot different than classic tho. Faster paced and a lot easier to progress through. In Classic it's the Journey to the Endgame that's the best content. In Retail you will find yourself full leveled and in the endgame before you would hit 30 in Classic :D You're right, the style in WoW is peak :) Have a good leveling experience and I'm interested to hear what your opinion is. Cheers :)
One thing to say. Don't think about classic wow for endgame. The joy to max level is what you will remember most. Nice video I love how you kept statements matter of fact and are not trying to raise one game above the other
yeah im just enjoying the progression of levelling and gearing atm. i dont think one games better than the other, both are pretty good that fill different aspects of MMOs imo.
who the hell told a new player to install a questing addon that does everything for him.... seriously, who intentionally sabotaged the expierence he needed to have in classic? Fuck these addons. Maybe if this is your 10. classic character, its cool to find out what the speedrun strats are, but as a new player: this is the worst thing you can do. Takes all the thinking from you. You dont need to engage with the world, because the addon tells you exactly how to do it.
I found your point about WoW's main story (or lack thereof) interesting because I'd argue the human level 1-30 experience has a pretty great storyline that is behind walls of text in the quest text. That said, I've played through it numurous times and use the voiceover addon so I can listen to the quest texts while walking around. I'm curious how this would improve the experience with knowing where things are as well, since quests tend to mention map locations within larger paragraphs of text. Good video though! Always interesting to see new perspectives on the game!
i went on the same journey as you, got about 2-3k hours in ffxiv, i put about 200 into hc wow classic and idk, i just didnt like dungeons enough to keep me on it, i love the graphics/style though and i like how much it actually feels like an mmo with the overworld collaboration and lfg for quests etc. i would definitely agree that overworld interactions and such has ffxiv absolutely beat and the rest is really just personal preference (excluding some qol things i believe wow is lacking)
I agree with all you mentioned, but one thing is most of those points are also comparison of wow classic and retail. retail shares a lot more with FF14 than classic in terms of there is somewhat of a main story with the campaign, the dungeons are queued into, there isn't much threat management in dungeons anymore and there is a lot more emphasis on big pulls and aoe in dungeons because of mythic+. good video overall.
You said there was no "tank stance" but that isn't 100% true. Warrior has Defensive Stance which increases threat generation, druids Bear Form is similar as well and paladins have a self-only buff "Righteous Fury" which increases the threat generation of holy damage. It isn't evenly balanced from what I know and holding threat is a bit of an issue with all of them. Warrior (and weapon based classes in general) are very gear-dependent both to deal damage and thus generate threat. Hunters have it a bit easier, due to the fact they cannot be dodged or parried but pet classes in general have it alot easier. Casters really scale more by level than anything else, since learning new ranks of their spells means big powerspikes. Using Questie is completely fine nowadays like you said, but the game is of course entirely playable without by just reading your quest log. Just stay away from WeakAuras, Dangerous Boss Mobs (DBM), BigWigs and quest guide addons like Rested XP that you mentioned for your first experience to be more "pure" I guess :D
You can't avoid using rested XP. Get more by logging out in an inn! WoW classic has a very strong holy trinity. Because of this, such healers and tanks are hard to level. Warriors are tanks. If you are going to solo, I recommend restarting with a paladin for a funner time. Or, get a healer friend, and blast though the content faster than any solo dps. Healers+warriors = wrecking ball. Just be sure to manage aggro so mobs don't go after the healer.
The "Quests" that you are talking about with people doing them together are in FF14. They're called Fates. No one really likes doing them, why? Because they suck. Just like WoW's levelling experience.

Wish someone had told all of us in 2004 that questing is literally impossible in wow without questie.

I believe he was talking about the addon RXP, which is an in-game guide for how to quest in the most efficient way without thinking much.
