  • In this video I'm looking to adjust the rudder pedal cables to try and reduce the sensitivity during tail high taxi test. The rudder seems to be too sensitive as speed increases. So this video is what I found.

Reducing the travel in the foot pedals to reduce the amount of movement you get in the rudder is actually going to make the over controlling worse. The less distance your feet need to move to in turn move the rudder will INCREASE sensitivity. You actually want MORE foot movement distance to increase the control. Its like the handlebars on a bike. If you make the handlebars, in this case representing the foot pedals, if you have a 1 foot long handlebar the movement of that bar a small amount will result in the wheel (rudder) moving over, say 2 inches. Well... if you increase the length of the handlebar to 2 feet the movement that you now need to move the bars to get the same 2 inches of wheel (rudder) deflection is going to increased.. therefore increasing the control you have over the wheel (rudder).

If you've ever thought of plan or kit building a plane, watch every one of these. He's worked out about every possible hairball one can run into. Can't wait to see her fly.

It’s your plane, it’s your way. I like the progress that you were making on your bird.😊

You are very meticulous, a necessary attribute considering the original plans, which in hind site demands that quality. Keep up that approach. I have been following you for many years, good job, and keep it up. God speed. I am anal (very careful, and analytical) but you top me, for sure. A necessary quality for your efforts on this plane.

Funny thing about forgetting names. You are obviously a very smart man to do what you have there, but same with me. I'm an engineer and I can remember lots of stuff, but names go in one ear and out the other. 😄

Reducing the travel like that i feel probably will help a ton in how the handling goes, i guess because i only fly RC as of the moment when you mentioned how squirrely it was getting i didn't even think about it could be ruder horn or peddle sensitive issues, though probably should have as if the sensitivity is too high on my stuff we adjust the horns travel angle.

She looks great with a nice shine on the finish. Glad you had some folks stop by to say hello.

Good to see that you are keeping at it and figuring out all the gremlins. Thanks for the video Don!

He mentioned that not many of smaller size war planes are flying. A lot of units are damaged on the grounds accidents and are not in flying condition. Please let him take his time to get this right. I hate to see him with all the time and money spent to have a grounds accident.

Please try to get an hour or two in a Pitts S2 with an instructor before flying the Corsair. An inch of rudder pedal travel is MASSIVE in an aerobatic airplane, movements are more like pressures rather than full movements in a lot of short coupled aerobatic style airplanes. I’ve flown many and owned a couple, it’s all just about pressures and feeling what the planes going to do before it does it

Unless the over center allows the cable attach point to be equal or below the rudder pivot point it shouldn't be a problem. You should check it with both pedals hooked up. Shortening the brake master will only change the pedal angle, and possibly make them hit the firewall when applied, it won't change the pedal thrrow. If you dont like how far over center they are going you really should shorten the cables.

Although I don’t actually read a lot of the comments on here, maybe I should start reading them. Look, if this were my project, I wouldn’t even read the comments and would probably just turn off comments. I’m sure Don will know when it’s time to take it airborne and that’s his decision. I’m a retired Bio Medical Engineer and have dealt with electrical & mechanical projects in a hospital setting for over 46 years. Also, I’ve been a private pilot for 36 years. I rather enjoy watching Don work through problems & producing solutions and results. I would have to say some of the followers on this channel have no flight experience because it certainly shows in some of the comments. Take your time Don..

I can't believe all the little problems that need to be fixed. You think the W.A.R. building plans would come with a listing of all the proper parts that work 100%. Glad you found it to fix now that later after a test flight. R.I.P.IECES. could of happened.
