Since before the Ancient Greek Civilization, philosophy has been the highest of ideals, and the foundation of all successful civilizations, …but all past great civilizations eventually failed. The goal of philosophy must be to achieve Wisdom, which King Solomon possessed more than any human before or after him.

I once heard that if I do not chose what I want out of life, someone else will and I probably won't like what they chose. Out of others chosing for me springs the seed of victimhood. Your comments on philosophy are spot on as philosophy and purpose drives us to our destiny. Once our destiny is understood, everything begins to mobilize to assist us in moving forward. Periodically, however, we lose our focus and get off track and contradictions begin to seep in. The concept of contradictions turned a light on. Thank you for helping me get back on track.

Awesome Point to make!!! "Lazy" is not the issue. Immobility, indecision, and insecurities result from a lack of confidence in solid foundational principles and drives that arise from that purpose

I first heard Dr. Gentempo speak more than 10 years ago and he issued the same admonition that "contradictions leads to destruction". It scared the heck out of me as all the contradictions in my life came flashing before my eyes. He also shared that there was a different and organized approach to one's life where one could shape their future. That one's life could unfold On Purpose vs. on accident. Call it 'applied' or 'practical' philosophy, this framework that Dr. Gentempo has laid out has allowed me to live a richer and more fulfilling life by design over the past 10 years. The chickens have come home to roost when I stuck my head in the sand regarding my contradictions, and previously unimaginable triumphs achieved in my personal in professional life when I have applied his philosophy formula. I'm so excited that this video and this concept will reach so many more people, who can also experience this monumental change.

This is an amazing talk!! Thank you for sharing it Dr. Gentempo! Everyone needs to understand the impact that philosophy has on life. Without understanding what our personal philosophy is, we will never achieve our life's pupose! (logic being part of that)

p.s.: Thank you for this quote: “As a human being, you have no choice about the fact that you need a philosophy. Your only choice is whether you define your philosophy by a conscious, rational, disciplined process of thought and scrupulously logical deliberation-or let your subconscious accumulate a junk heap of unwarranted conclusions, false generalizations, undefined contradictions, undigested slogans, unidentified wishes, doubts and fears, thrown together by chance, but integrated by your subconscious into a kind of mongrel philosophy and fused into a single, solid weight: self-doubt, like a ball and chain in the place where your mind’s wings should have grown”

Thanks Dr Patrick for your short talk, I found it very inspiring!
Actually, your ‘Philosophy’, sounds more like a ‘World-View’; Origin, Meaning, Morality & Destiny( the 4 necessary elements ).
The problem is that: Time + Matter + Chance, can only ever attempt to provide: ‘Origin’, leaving the other 3 vital elements unanswered.
I believe this is predominantly why we struggle with finding our: Purpose/Meaning.
We are taught that we are products of evolution, devoid of meaning & purpose.
I put the blame squarely with our Atheistic Education System.
    Just a thought.

    • @josefvanruyven1808
      @josefvanruyven1808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The term ‘Atheistic’ implies ‘not of God’. One could argue that the Education System expresses a belief in many ‘gods’, (self, money, power, possession etc.) just not the One,True, Eternal God.

all philosophy is a dance within the illusion of Maya. All language, words and labels are labyrinths within mind & hold awareness in a trap of delusion. Go into silence, and observe the dance of mind. Silence the mind, and breathe God in. The nature of awareness is quantum energy (or Sprite) whose essence desires to unite with its source, (enlightenment). Quite the mind, and be one with your God-ness.

Wow that is wild - to have hatred for someone based on their hair etc, especially when they are clearly way above average in attractiveness and good taste, much less talking about philosophy as a vehicle to derive more value from ones life. THE POWER OF PHILOSOPHY
For the recipients of on going suggestions, the appreciations of what follows must have been facilitated.
The next step in Humankind evolution, after colonialism, paternalism appears to be self- realisation. The origin of both functional and dysfunctional global influences are to be investigated further. This positive move includes realism (not to be confused with radical conservatism), which is the necessary anchorage having a ballooning effect beyond present common normalities. This is about expanding abstractive abilities monopolised by Science, and so without the formulas. Generally speaking common knowledge has prioritised materialism and statu quos.
One cannot ignore the blanks mentioned by alcohol and drug addicts, criminals, and the blanks mentioned by many others seeking true meanings. This is part of the gap present political arguments between finance and control, where Humanism just plays a supporting role of existing functions and dysfunctions. Introspection at all levels can go a long way towards major expansive interactive improvements.Going from Colonialism to Paternalism and now self-realisation appears to be the way to go, eventhough it is hard to figure out the extend of national involvements without integrating a global vision. Awareness of what is shared here can be imposed to some and not always expressed.

+TEDx Talks you should really invite Stefan Molyneux to do a longer talk about practical philosophy. Don't know this guy but this too was cool though (especially the Rand reference).

one can't say conclusively that you can't understand life, paradox. we are stuck in a paradox, ultimately the seeker who is trying to unravel the mystery is living, thats what evolution wants, it wants us to live.. and we are supposed to be caught in learning new things aka wonder every moment.. win and win situation..

Replace the word "philosophy" by "ambition", "self centeredness" and "egoism" than you are not far from the truth

This has nothing to do with philosophy. This is a mere appropriation of the term by someone who doesn't know much about it.
