Classic: Gift Swap Edition - Players take turns drawing characters from random, but that character doesn’t go to the player who drew it, rather to an opponents team of the drawing players choice.
Classic Idea: Dinger City Duos
- 12 players divided into six teams of two however seems fun/fair
- two separate drafts with pods of six, one player per team in each draft
- players draft a team for their teammate to use throughout the season
- each player plays 10 regular season games (facing everyone but their teammate), Top 6 advance to the playoffs
- Teammates of the 1 and 2 seeds advance to the playoffs as wild cards; if they already qualify on their own records, then the wild card spots go to the teammates of the next highest finisher(s)
- If teammates face each other in the playoffs, they can gentleman to having each player play the team they drafted instead
Another idea would be getting people who don't know the game to draft players based purely on vibes
Mums of Dinger City for the draft would be pretty funny
Relative classic idea - mystery/lottery set up. Each round is a lottery for pick. Or everybody drafts teams & then you randomly assign players to the team drafted. Might be the one you pick maybe not (one trade per team)
On this idea, it could be interesting where players draft a character type and the character they get is from the available characters left in that type. Once a character is assigned to a team it gets taken out of the pool. This allows for controlled randomness and lets players make decisions if they want to let a type thin out for the chance of a better character or if they want to try and snipe a pick.
I also like the limited trading aspect!
@@solarpoweredheartdo you mean like heavy, balance, speed, technique? Cuz that could be fun.
@@StarWarsNurse7 yup!
Having a draft where other players pick your team would be a fun idea I see I wasn't the only one thinking that
Classic idea: Have each person draft teams for a different person. Low tiers might get pushed around first or players get someone they just can’t stand
7:11 Here's the ruleset I play with my friends and I think would make for an interesting new feel to the games:
1. Captains and players are randomized each game
2. Each player gets 3 stars on players that they get to decide
3. Field is randomized
4. Instead of playing a 9 inning game, instead, we play Bo3 5 inning games, rerolling the teams between games (perhaps for the sake of video length and time constraints, you could amend this rule to 3 innings or ignore it entirely)
Classic 6 already is exploring mixed stars on/off, which I think is really cool. Keep up the great content!
Also, it already has a name, so if Tyler wants to name it, he'll have to come up with something better than this: Randbats
L Train and Papa on coms, Mr. Joe and the jester on the field, this is going to be a good time
Papa "Double Play" Dennis right there
Classic idea: Twin ball: teams are made up of mix of stars on and off but the twist is teams made up of characters that have multiple color variants only.
I have an idea for a 50/50 draft. The players select the characters they want but whether or not they join the team on their turn is based on a coin flip. If you win the flip, the character joins your team. If you don't win the character goes back to the draft board and the player loses their turn.
That would create some REALLY unbalanced teams, especially with that small sample size of coin flips.
Classic idea: only draft different captains, give everyone a set number of points to spend and every character costs a certain number of points, and you can spend more points to star a character, it's kinda like the Marvel VS Capcom 2 or 3 "Ratio Mode" ruleset.
anyway, build, say, 30 points worth of a baseball team, including your captain already being taken into account, allow duplicates so both players can pick someone as long as it's not the same captain
Classic: The Swapping Edition:
- Each player drafts a team as normal, but all teams are then given to a random other person
- No trades (to avoid teams just gathering players that they would normally play with)... This could be amended to one trade
Classic: Rivals: everyone drafts their rivals team.
Pretty sure unicorns come from explorers descriptions of rhinos
I wanted that Rosalina bomb to make it even though I was cheering for Mr. Joe as I usually do
Papa is an s-tier commentator
you gotta love the L-train and papa den com duo
Draft idea: sort the characters into a tier list, draw to see which tier you get to choose from have the lower tiers more heavily weighted. Snake draft as usual
I was thinking for a cool classic idea is have the lowest tier/viability characters able to have stars on
Kind of spitballing ideas from MtG drafts, but wonder if there's some way to adapt grid/winston drafting? They don't translate perfectly here, but both kinda work with the idea that you're not just getting the character you want but having to work around characters you don't want to get it.
Set up a 3x3 grid, randomly populate it with characters, then each coach takes a row/column of 3 so you might have to take some bad characters to get the good ones? probably would have to refill after each pick so the numbers work out and avoid people getting lines of two...
or winston you start with 3 piles, all with 1 hidden character. look at the first pile and either keep it or pass and look at the next. whenever you pass you add a new character to the pile (without looking) for the next person to consider. if you pass on all 3 you'd get a random one from the deck.
@@aubirb5112 as a fellow MtG and magic draft fan, this is really interesting! Booster draft Classic sounds really neat.
Would like to see a format where players draft the opponent’s team each game to make it as bad as possible. Low tiers are hype
We used to do this for belt matches/earlier DC stuff! It was called “sabotage draft”
Good ol' commentator's curse
next draft have everyone draft normally and then shuffle which player gets which team
(also as I have said before, next 12 player classic have the hazardless and hazardful versions of stadiums instead of just two of the same. Toy Field replaces the second Mario/Dinger City Stadium)
star chem piantas might be a little evil
classic idea: you draft half of the team you want, and the rest are random OR chosen by someone else
The all pianta infield strikes again
I dub Dennis King of Yapping

Rip Crazzy
I would love to see a classic with a raffle/bingo style draft. Not sure how you would balance it but maybe have 3 random characters available and you could take one or pass. Maybe do something to make taking/passing a real risk/reward decision
You should do a modded classic where every team is just 9 copies of the captain
What an amazing game everyone did amazing
have everyone draft a team to give away
This Pianta infield is the best infield I’ve ever seen. How many double plays? 5?
6 but Jason ran on an infield fly for one of them, so I'd count it as 5 yeah
Freddie Freeman in a Yankees hat???
And for the suggestion can it be a random draft per game? And no visible drops
