I will go to my grave wondering what Bach was thinking about when he created this music. And then Ms.Argeerich sits down to play it 300 years later. How can anyone get this good to be able to perform this masterpiece- It just doesn't seem possible. And yet she makes the "impossible" sound easy. No, I love it, but I don't quite understand it. "Beautiful" is all I can say.
To me even more important is that she continued to develop in her musicianship throughout her life and is an even greater joy to hear today than she was sixty years ago!
Hi Max! Thanks for sharing. I happen to have a copy of the whole recital, which includes among others Liszt's Funérailles and Chopin's Third Ballad. All the concert is in fact absolutely beautiful.
She is 77 now and her playing hasn't changed since 1965 ! As brilliant as always though I very often doesn't like her choice of tempo in many works myself.I mean 'too fast' !
Her playing has improved - better than ever. Watch her recent 2020 Medici.tv performance of the Prokofiev 3rd with Lahav Shani and compare it to her 1960’s recording of the same. It now floats on air - absolutely remarkable.
Who is the guy holding her hand on the photograph ? I can’t understand why she hasn’t played more Bach than one Partita one Toccata and this English suite.
