This is an incredible recording - such vitality and control. The cadenza in particular is fascinating - some pedalling that I’ve never heard other pianists attempt. What a fresh interpretation!
this is an electrifying version of this Piano Concerto. Martha is really the latest great virtuoso pianist - it is so difficult for all those pianists who will come after her because she really raised the bar so high.....

Many thanks Charles, an interesting document. We hear the expected Argerichian magic, but is there an unsettling sense that her muse is not fully engaged with this music? Alone amongst the standard-rep Romantic concertos, the Grieg can be competently played by any talented youngster. The tunes are gorgeous, technically it is not far past Czerny, and there are few musical challenges. Argerich never recorded it commercially, and seldom played it after the mid 1970's when I first started tracking her career.

What else can be said about a legend! She belongs up there with the Horowitz, Rubenstein, Bolet, Rachmaninoff, Heifetz & many other great artists.
