    I'm not understanding this at all. I wish you were able to show an example with a drive that's not mounting. I see the container, and it is in APFS. I'm afraid to 'erasing' the container as I'm on holiday and want to wait until I get back to my iMac before totally screwing myself.

      I honestly don’t wish the same, I’m happy that all my disks work perfectly fine 👨🏼‍💻 this video just give potential solutions, but it most cases you have to reformat the whole disk anyway. But a lot of people unfortunately don’t understand the purpose of this video. I hope that everything will work well for you 👍

    TLDR: drive formatted on windows might have block size unsupported on MacOS.

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial
      @OneByteAcademyOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is possible. Not everything is ideal on MacOS. The purpose of this video is to give you some chance to fix things, instead of reformatting it straight away. Which you might unfortunately end up doing anyway.

      correct. windows formats in 1024k whereas mac (+linux) expects 128k. on windows, you can change that before formatting.

    Thanks for the video. I didn't understand how to fix the problem, erasing the data from the external hard drive.
    Format in exfat mode but it doesn't open on my mac, only on iPad.
    Do you know how to help?

      Thank you for your positive comment 🙏 it’s hard to say what might be the problem. In this video I just mentioned few possible options, but it might not work for every disk.

    Hi, My WD External 2TB is not mounting. Tried First Aid and Mount from Disk Utility no luck. Don't want to erase it as it's almost filled with data. Please help.

      @OneByteAcademyOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, purpose of this video is to give you chance of fixing things before actually deleting the whole disk. If these techniques didn't help solving the issue the only way will be to reformat the disk.

    Hi. I have an external Sabrent Rocket Pro USB-C 2tb that will not mount when plugged directly into my MacBook 15" 2018. But it will mount when using a simple unpowered usb-c to usb-a 4-port hub. I've tried multiple cables (including the original) that has worked in the past. When it's plugged in directly it has a constant light, it never shows in "Disk Utility", but using the hub it starts blinking as it should when it mounts. Hope you have a solution, I havent been able to find one via google :) Thanks Bjørn Sigvert

    • @OneByteAcademyOfficial
      @OneByteAcademyOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Bjørn thank you for reaching out, but I am afraid I will not have a solution for that. Every disk can behave differently. Have you tried to connect it directly on a different Mac? If the issue is connected to the cable and the connection inside the Mac body or is it just in your computer?

    Thank you. My Lacie drive was connected to my new M1 MBP and was not showing after I woke the computer from sleep. I didn't want to manually disconnect it as its HHD. I pulled dup disk utility and was able to click on the Lacie drive and mount it. Although I hope Apple fixes this so I don't have to do that every time.

      @@OneByteAcademyOfficial The point itself people have to watch videos on how to do simple things, a failure of MacOS.
      I decided to sell my mac never be back again. Since both my exFAT and NTFS harddisks are not working, tried Transfer data to my PC using ethernet cable. While copying, Got pink screen of death too. Wasted my time thats why I am bit grumpy and poor mood. Expensive device doesn't supposed to make peoples' life hard. Overhyping things are bad always. This is a prime example.

      It's very tricky with this topic. I just tried to share few common fixes, but it's really individual to every disk.
