You’re very honest and genuine Brett. That M5 was a fantastic car, but your reasons for parting with it totally make sense and is a very sensible alternative. I’m sure you’ll end up going back to the m140i’s 👍

Feel your pain, I bought a R35 GTR and to be honest is was stretching my budget quite a bit. Driving it I too was always worried if I got stung by a maintenance bill. I kept it 2 years and it was crippling to keep it running giving it all it required to keep it in top shape. You made the right choice in my opinion, also I didn’t have to explain myself on TH-cam.

  • @pablonavaridas3302

I think you made the right decission. I would recommend you buying a bmw 220i/230i/120i/125i, those cars got the B48 2.0 twin power turbo with 184 hp or 242. You can use it as a daily because the consumption is very good if you don't push it so hard, and you can really enjoy when you want too, because the power is really good. In stage one you can get almost 300 hp, if somehow you feel like you need more power. I've got mine in september 2021 and I'm in love, is like a baby GTI or S3, but much cooler in my opinion.

A mini jcw uses the same power plant and has alot more power to weight ratio and the mods available are insane. Great all rounder in my opinion. Pre lci is the way too go when buying one as well.

@@darrenm7251 Yes, that car is like the new 128ti I think because is Fwd right? The pre LCI 2 is better in sound because that car doesn't get the PPF filter. But in tech and design I would get the LCI 2 from (2017-2020) because it gets the ID6 and a better design dashboard. But all around, they are all great cars.

Sensible decision man - if you weren't happy, best to get rid quickly than sit on something that could turn into a huge moneypit. I know nothing about them, but if you wanted something a little more grown up around the same age (2013+), what about a spicy estate? 340i? Or get something a little older like an E90/91/92/93 335i? Some competition for your dad, plus those look absolutely incredible and had the N55 V6 for the 2011-2013 production run.

Don’t buy a car because you think it makes you seem cool or trendy, buy it because you want to and do with it as you please.

Spending thousands of euros to maintain it, have a few launches and driving it less than 5000 miles per year while spending a ridiculous amount of cash to maintain at a high standard. And he sold it. And now he has a normal car, still a bmw a 2019, X5 and is more than happy with the decision he’s done. 2 kids, his whole family secured.

Hi Brett I have been in your position I purchased a E93 M3 fully loaded with super low mileage and the car was superb but it comes with expenses you don't want. It had a service, luckily not the big service, and if you didn't run it on a weekly basis of have you the low voltage on the dash. So new battery with the service £900! Still got the battery light on! Then when out of warranty a adaptive headlight required replacing after getting condensation in it. Wow £1996 fixed it at BMW . Went to pick it up after replacement and saw a very low mileage M140i on the BMW dealers forecourt and traded the M3 in. Must admit I haven't got all the toys on it but find it an excellent car and no worries about rod bearings or throttle actuators having to be fitted at a major cost. Brett invest in a late M140i again and increase your you tube followers!!!

This is going against your point of costs and reliability, but why not a drift build (or something more track oriented) with something like an e30 or e46? Seems like you enjoyed the off-road time and I think they would give so much more to learn and talk about the mechanics, which certainly will have some fixes to be done.

You made the right call, not only for financial stability but i personally think you just didn't suit the m5, you look the part with your old m140i, so hopefully a m140i or even a m240i might be on the cards again

Would love to see what you could really do with a M140i/240i given the right amount of time, but also Audi s3/4's are very cool...

Dont go back to m140i. No point, content has already been done by you and many others. B58 engine on the 3 or 4 series if sticking BMW. Or as others have said mini jcw.

No point having a car you're not 100% about mate.. Personally I reckon you should get something dirt cheap that you can work on yourself to learn more skills
