I’ve watched a lot of videos about George’s recent comment. Too many people take it out of context and focus on one thing. You guys nailed it. Nice job.
I always thought Tad Williams should be the guy to help George finish ASOIAF. I recently re-read the "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn" series and I must say the POV chapters of Simon Mooncalf felt like I was reading a Jon or Bran chapter from ASOIAF. The way he writes is very similar to George! Aside from all the gore and blood and cursing lool. The prose is what I'm talking about. Both stories are almost identical with their minor plots and one overarching main plot. Tad Williams is also younger than George if that means anything. Many people have also claimed - George also admitted - that ASOIAF is heavily influenced by "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn". I think I know how ASOIAF ends simply because of how MST ended...Let's just say the children of the forest are getting their revenge!

I don't think it's quite that simple. Remember that in 2016 he was genuinely confident that he was almost done. Something happened along the way that probably forced a massive rewrite, and I can only imagine how demoralizing that had to be.
It is not morbid or in bad taste to confront the reality that GRRM is 76 years old. He happens to have created a work of fiction that is culturally significant on a massive scale. What would be in poor taste is to have no contingency plan and pretend like he is going to live forever. He sort of invites the type of criticism he gets because he has said he will not bring in a ghost writer or someone to help him finish and that if he doesn’t finish it, it just won’t be finished. It is as bad as someone who has a lot of assets and family to not have a will. If you are just some average joe having a will isn’t super important but if you are GRRM you need to have a plan. He is old. He will die sooner rather than later. There is somewhat of a moral imperative for him to finish the book or at least ensure his fans that his properties will be in good hands and we will get some kind of satisfying conclusion to his magnum opus work. Otherwise it is he who is committing the breach of taste and not the people acknowledging the truth of reality.
💯 When you are myth building at this scale, yes it is a moral imperative; that’s why the vitriol against D&D is entirely warranted, they failed to grasp that as well
@@TheMightofDab The definition of morbid is an unusual interest in disturbing and unpleasant subjects, especially death and disease. You accuse me of being morbid but I'm not particularly interested in anybody's death. I'm interested in a book series being finished. Hows it feel to know that you are the sect of the fanbase that George hates, the ones that are constantly “writing his obituary, the ones that are actively making it more stressful and difficult for him to finish his book? @@dogman6687 Personally I don't flood his comments section with anything but I totally get why some people do. He has said things like "if I don't have the book by x date feel free to lock me in my cabin until I finish the book". This sort of invites ribbing from fans that are frustrated about him not finishing the book. Normally people don't do that. Only for GRRM. The fact that the top comment on anything he posts is "Finish Winds of Winter" is totally appropriate. The amount of people who say inappropriate things about him dying is a very small minority which you can find in a comment section about anything. You can't seriously blame the fans for him not finishing the book and to be fair he doesn't.
George has lost interest in his story since the show ended before the books and is now having to force himself to finish it while having all these other projects to do that are more interesting for him to do.

@@TheMightofDab The definition of morbid is an unusual interest in disturbing and unpleasant subjects, especially death and disease. You accuse me of being morbid but I'm not particularly interested in anybody's death. I'm interested in a book series being finished. Is it that a whole bunch of book nerds suddenly developed a unhealthy fascination with death and disease or is it that GRRM has, through his actions, invited speculation about his mortality by not finishing a book for 15 years and refusing to let anybody help him finish it.
Hows it feel to know that you are the sect of the fanbase that George hates, the ones that are constantly “writing his obituary, the ones that are actively making it more stressful and difficult for him to finish his book?
Plenty of fans want to see the series finished, that doesn’t mean we’re all flooding comment section about his impending doom, waiting on bated breath to say “ha-ha! Told you so!”. This fanbase can be so obnoxious and ignorant 😭
