I love how much respect and support we Plague Doctors have been getting this year. There was barely anything available last year and now it's all over the internet.
I started making plague doctor masks 5 years ago, and i always had them available, but, some were featured in movies so i guess the interest for plague doctor masks grew.
You joke, but I am legit building my own plague doctor mask. It's a half face for now of my own design, with intentions of making a visor that act like goggles to go over the eyes for full protection. This guy's video has been so helpful.

The plague mask was worn by the plaque doctor - not the patient. The tip was filled with aromatic herbs so it reduced the smell of death. Also, in those days, they believed that bad odours were the cause of the plague.
@@stephenlee62 The plague was caused by Rats, this is the year of the rat in chinese astrology, I think they knew its coming, now that you mentioned it maybe they are looking at the wrong animal, most plagues and viruses are spread by rats and cats.
I did this for my friend (who's autistic and I've known since highschool) since he's obsessed with plague doctors, and it was his birthday, his parents gave me a strange look and asked if I actually made it, and I showed them the list of things I bought for it, and shown them every detail, including the inside where I used an iron that I heated up, and burned his initials into it

I quote somebody on our Etsy shop who made the mask following the pattern and the tutorial: "As an absolute beginner, I never thought I'd be able to make this. The video and quick replies helped out a lot. The only problem I had was that it was difficult for me to see in the video on how to do certain basic stitches but that is more my problem since I've never hand stitched anything in my life. I was able to figure it out though. I would purchase from him again. Good work :)"

I work at a hospital. They told us we should wear masks. I showed my boss this mask. I said, “it’s traditional medical garb and it has already withstood plagues in the past. I need this one” she said no because it could scare the kids. The hospital I work at is a children’s hospital.

It it possible to use leather alternatives to make this or is it too difficult to use those? Never really worked with either but I know those alternatives are a lot cheaper so I’m just wondering.
You could use imitation but it should be thick enough to get a good consistency. it should be thick enough to keep it's shape but thin enough to be comfortable. for veg tan 2.2-2.4 is perfect, for imitation I do not know.

well i mean... if you order rx glasses with round frames you would be able to sew those onto the mask. :)
You can put custom lenses in the mask.

just put your prescription lenses into the eyeholes yourself.
You can probably fit it under of your glasses are small enough I mean the mask IS long so it somehows adds more space for the glasses
Knowing that every edge is bevelled is EXTREMELY satisfying. The uniformity of a nice, clean bevelled edge is so beautiful. ^_^
