Fair. Honestly though the biggest flop of splatoon 3 is splatoon 3. The game had so much hype and potential tbh and I now barely see anyone talk about it much besides either competitive or just ranting. Although it could be bc of the changes in development I think the game feels rushed. Hopefully the hype put in the next entry will be worth it 😔🙏
I recall a very early period in S3 with Ninja Squid being overtuned and people not realizing that Wave Breaker is weak, which resulted in CJr. of all things being hyped up
Wavebreaker was pretty strong at the start of S3 because of the Meta. Crab was countered by Wave pretty hard. However, as time passed, other specials got much stronger and we left crab Meta, which left Wave in a pretty weak spot.
I do remember that! Same with the nova weapon but I wanted to make sure this list was short but good job pointing it out. It’s one of the reasons we see a jr. clip in the video because I initially had cJr. on my list.
I've always thought the S-Blast was basically a trap. It sounds cool to be a Range Blaster and a Luna at the same time, but really, you're switching between being a Range that lacks the main thing people fear Range for, and a Luna that doesn't have the fire rate to make it worth respecting. Just like Range, if you fight it up close, it better direct you in one shot or else it dies before it wins. It's not Range and Luna at the same time. It's bad Range and bad Luna at the same time.
This is honestly a really good way to put it. I always felt like it lacked the one thing that defined blasters, it’s AOE & indirect pressure. It just doesn’t feel like a blaster to me.
Also, it doesn't help that burst bomb got nerfed before S-Blast 91 came out. But yeah, S-Blast overall is a very weak version of range and luna, and luna is already pretty subpar in 3
5 stared both S-Blast '92 and '91 and I can def agree with the 'having to play it perfectly" problem. It's weird seeing the devs give it a burst combo that can just... not kill if you're even slightly off your aim. If they tweaked the radius on the long range mode, leave a bit more room for error, I think we'd see more of it. I'll main '91 regardless tho, it's no flop to me, lol
This video deserve a follow up. It's really funny to look back we actually hype up a lot of weapons that are seem good on paper. And at the end, those kit really just only good on paper. (Also, I actually main a lot of weapons in this video which I might be crazy but I have a great time. So, why not.)
If I do a follow up, I’ll the opposite of the video. It really just depends on how to video performs. If people like it, I can but if it’s not the content people wanna see, I gotta try other things.
I feel like Painbrush had the most unrealized potential. But it was kneecapped by startup and end lag that was never retuned, and neither kit is great, with the second being downright bad. For a video going the other direction: c’mon, we all know pencil is going to be #1 on that list.
I feel like big bubbler as a special is one of the biggest flops I mean on paper its really strong Huge high hp shield you can set up for your teamates yet it falls really flat
I'm not sure this counts but I remember when wiper deco was announced my friend group on discord were freaking out that it had both beakons and missiles as it's kit. But when we had the chance to play with the weapon we found out that it can't be as aggressive with a comeback + quick respawn build as its vanilla kit and it had to be played as more of a budget support. And I guess as the meta evolved people just dropped the weapon in favor of the other splatana weapons
Honorable mention definitely has to go to wiper deco. I remembered everyone was freaking out because of a good main weapon with missiles, but the kit didn’t really have any synergy. Great video btw
tbh, sblasts main issue i feel is consistency issues. like yeah, it definitely has its fair share of problems, but i feel as though its strengths would be more worth it if it didn't feel like you had to flip a coin and land heads to use them sometimes (saying as someone whos 5 stared 92 and halfway to the 91 5 star)
One I would say is definitely Custom JR many people were saying back in Chill season it would be the anti meta pick because how good it was against most top tiers back then Blasters, Dualies and pretty much all stealth weapons but when the meta moved to more long range pressure it had no spot in team comps and completely faded away
Zimi, my baby💔I hope it can take some of the hype Jr🤢gets. There's a lot of weapons that look like they should or should have seen more use in comp, so thanks for tapping into this subject. Hope you consider a part 2 :)
a successes video would be pretty good i think the wellstring woul probably be on that cause i never saw hype for it and personally wasnt going to pick it up but its now my main and favourite weapon
I agree with Sblast; one shot range blaster with perfect jump Rng sounds good on paper, but we have yet to see results. I make a claim for Dwiper. A gun with missiles that can be more threatening than Flingza or Goo had the community in a uproar, but quickly fizzled out and haven't heard about it since. As for underhyped weapons, I would say stamper. Both it and wiper were undervalued at release for their slow kill times at there effective ranges, but as time went on, they became much more threatening.
It isn't in the best content, but I enjoy seeing Zimi being talked about regardless as my favorite weapon, lol- I remember being disappointed time and time again when people spoke about bubble, Zimi was mostly seen as inferior to Jr. 😭 Sometimes, I wish the 1st kit was burst and Trizooka but that would be awful to fight. Hopefully a third kit can save the weapon's reputation.
Wish they nerfed the hitbox because now with it being slower people don’t enjoy it as much, and Trizooka on Neo makes the nerf seem even more pointless
God. The fact 92 has had more results than 91 *pisses* me off. I felt like I was the only person playing 91 at the start of the season. And that’s still continued for the most part. I don’t see it used much even in casual, and as someone who plays it a good amount it’s annoying when I hear people say “91 is good” without the results to back it up. It’s ironic because I don’t like Luna or Range very much. But then again, I play stuff like Nozzles and Squeezer so the perfect aim thing is already pretty engrained for me.
i dont agree with your s blast take. I dont think the wepon is under tuned, i think that the weapon is just very hard and unforgiving "inconsistant" , the skill sealing for the weapon is probably one of the highest in the game , it probably has the best versitility out of any blaster , tldr longrange is to hard to hit consistantly for most peapol thats why its not played in comp mutch .
I think the biggest problem of s-blast is just the meta, if like all of its counters (like 52, squeezer, range) we’re not there it might be not too but really high tier But I do agree that there is no good reason actually to pick sblast over rb (maybe in a more short range oriented meta)
Maybe because I wasn’t on splat twt all that much then, but even on TH-cam I don’t remember seeing anyone thinking that Zimi was gonna be that good. This was like November 2022, when crab Meta really started cementing, and we realized that it hard counter big bubbler so it wasn’t worth running anymore by this time. And we’ve all been knew that mist was useless since S2, sooo….😭 I think most who saw the reveal knew it was going to be a pretty subpar kit
I think that the difference with vanilla Liter is that it was really good, but as the meta changed it fell off, compared to the other weapons in the video that never lived up to the hype to begin with
Honestly i never saw zmini get insane hype with its kit bavk then. Its had ots moments, but i think it just gets outshined by jr and now the mint splatana (i cant remember the full name)
I was never that good with splatlings, but was so excited for Zimi. Even with buffs to bubbler, I never see anyone pick it. Tbh the vanilla mini kit is kinda better because of burst bomb combo even tho ultra stamp sucks XD
I was a big brella fan when sorella brella came out... It was so much fun until i realized that there are a lot of classes that can counter it + the fact that brella had it's DMG nerf which rlly made it's gameplay irritating... Inkjet was amazing for it but yeah... the amount of times it gets countered by a zooka or makes it very sad.. After I managed to 5 star sorella, I dropped it immediately after cuz of how frustrating it can be to be a brella (less emphasis if ur a tent). I would go back to maining it but damn... this thing makes me sad everytime I see it :')
the sub weapon does really hurt light tetra. it didn't need something super broken to work, but sprinkler is quite possibly the worst sub for tetra, since it's destroyed when the player is splatted. It is absolutely the sprinkler that ruins this kit, and I'd honestly argue that it would've been insane even in cooler meta if it had something like Fizzy bomb Zipcaster. Now, because of how strong Zip is rn, I'd argue that light tetra is currently the better tetra kit
I understand this is your opinion, but trust me when I say that I got the S-BLAST '91 as soon as I could and in my hands, it's AMAZING. I mean, I originally got it based off the looks. It's based off the SNES Super Scope, and it's purple (my fave color). But then I took a look at what it's stacked with, and it was pretty much a no-brainer. To me, the Burst Balloon is like the standard Splat Bombs but they explode on contact (which eliminates the chance of the enemy running away from it without taking damage), and the Booyah Bomb is a very simple special, just charge it with the "Booyah!" command, aim it wherever needed, fire it off, and watch it go. Even if you don't take out enemy teams in the blast, you'll still leave ink behind where the shot landed. And if you ask me, the original S-BLAST '92 kit was far too "meh" in my opinion. The Reefslider special can be amazing when used in the right hands (those hands are not mine), but Sprinkler...that thing makes a noise when active and can be broken in only a few hits (or one if you're using something like a Blaster, WHICH IS WHAT THE S-BLAST IS), so not the greatest choice. The '91 simplified things a bit. But, at the end of the day, these are _opinions,_ so yeah.
I remember when splatana wiper deco got revealed and everyone thought it was going to be a missile spammer and ruin the game, nowadays I barely see anyone play it
Thing is, i was on board with what you were saying bout s blast, even accepting of putting both in there, RIGHT UP TIL the point where you said “the problem is the main weapon is weak and undertuned”. I thoroughly believe this isn’t the case, the main weapon is impressive enough, and that one particular other sentence belonged there: The problem is, there’s just no reason to run it. It’s the same story with picking Lucina over Marth in smash ultimate; why would you, in a comp context, wanting to win, pick the s blast, even with a booyah bomb, even IN TC, if range is right there? And tbh that’s, at least somewhat, even Before it got crb, that’s all it’s a matter of; there’s just no point in picking it when other easier things already happen to be meta. That’s what I think anyhow. The only other thing i can say is, I’d absolutely love to get the opposite video you proposed at the end, go for it
I’ve been playing decav for a while now and I wouldn’t say it’s anywhere near being bad. yeah, I think it was a little overhyped, but definitely not a “flop”.
Its clear that it's undertuned in comp and way overtuned in solo. Starts that don't work in comp like a scu max build work great in solo so it can just spam jet all game and 1 shot anyone who gets close enough to try and stop it.
Cellstring is the biggest flop of the bow class. Reef deco was recently buffed to be decent but it still has curse of slider. Gus trust me this is coming from a bow main
I main bow and I feel the exact opposite way, Wellstring almost feels strong enough as to make both tri-stringer and reeflux obsolete. It does area damage better with it's 5 shots doing ludicrous damage (enough to kill in one hit with the splash damage alone which no other weapon has), and the partial charge can also kill in one hit and is only barely slower than reeflux. It'd be completely busted if it wasn't for heavyweight and mid kits holding it back.
It's kinda sad to see Light Tetra not pop off. It's so much fun and it's truly just in the wrong game. I like to argue that even a good chunk of the mid tier kits in S3 would be meta in any game aside from Splatoon 3 (okay that's an exaggeration but at least for Splatoon 2 as example)
Neo-splash’s kit is the worst weapon kit flop imo. It was SUPPOSED to have Zipcaster and they changed it to Ttek 2 like how did they fumble that hard. I can safely say, had it gotten zipcaster, it would’ve been my fav weapon
The saddest part of this list, is the fact most of these weapons are victims of the kit system. Nintendo will over tune weapons with bad kit synergy and will either nerf or neglect weapons that finally get a good kit. The current kit system often gets exploited by Nintendo as a way of "balancing" main weapons rather than an opportunity to explore different playstyles that play to the weapon's strengths. A good kit is merely the bare minimum, the main weapon has to be good and everything around it has to go in its favour. 3rd should've been the focus, and made part of the main update cycle in the first place imo. They shouldn't just be content extensions. As for my personal flop, that would go to the neo sploosh, as a long time sploosh fan, my worst fears for this weapon were realised and my disappointment remains immeasurable, this neo variant did nothing but reinforce all the stereotypes people had with the sploosh, being a braindead casual weapon that has no place in the meta. And in a game where shooter privilege is a thing, the sorry state of Sploosh is unacceptable. And seeing that were never getting Sploosh 7 let alone third kits, Sploosh will continue to remain at the rock bottom of every competitive players' tier list and a joke for all the wrong reasons. If anyone is wondering why I was an advocate for custom kits, this is basically why. I was basically for custom kits as early as Splatoon 2 after all the content updates. Sploosh was very lucky to get the 7 variant twice, but as anyone would say about luck, it eventually runs out, and that pretty much applies with this weapon.
Tbh i dis agree with part of your tetras take if it had a bomb or even just autobomb we would never see the vanilla kit unless you wabted to run some splash zones cheese
This is only a me thing but my personal biggest flop weapon was the sorella undercover... Like, I dont hate the kit but it just feels odd compared to splat 2's splat bomb + baller :( I dreamed of splat bomb + inkstorm/booyah bomb since day 1 so that can also be a reason?
Im still scratching my head on why these Re-skinned weapons sucked donkey balls. Everytime we got a new season I dreaded the reused weapons as the DEV team kept screwing them up with some being OP and others super weak and bad specials. I to this day use a the Areospray (Gold Version) With it being maxed out at 5 stars :)
@@GUSplatoon doesnt that mean that no one is willing to give it a chance because of high stakes? i mean the s blast has both a long range blast and a short range blast and an absurd kit how can it be that much of a flop, at the very least it cant be as bad as youre describing it
Yeah but it was overhyped to the point that people thought it would kill the game, maybe im wrong but i feel like when comparing expectations to results its at least top 5 for me

wasnt it was like on half of the sendouq tournament teams? correct me if im wrong but it gets a lot of top level rep to my knowledge
Tent is used but it isn’t meta. That isn’t what meta means.
@@GUSplatoon if im not mistaken they used it in worlds
not meta but both are pretty equally viable for use
I was in a Gus video. The match at 0.42 made one of my team mates rage quit
@squiddler7731 I didn't say wellstrings vanilla kit was bad I said custom wellstring is bad.
As a tetra main, i completely agree with where tetra is. I think it can go a little higher, but that is probably due to me being biased.
Maybe if Brella shields blocked Trizooka shots, they’d be better, right?
…right?
Neo-splash’s kit is the worst weapon kit flop imo. It was SUPPOSED to have Zipcaster and they changed it to Ttek 2 like how did they fumble that hard. I can safely say, had it gotten zipcaster, it would’ve been my fav weapon
A blast would be good if long range mode had a faster firing rate or either a larger blast radius. But as it stands it’s just terrible
#1 sorella undercover brella (I 5⃣ stared it)
Tbh i dis agree with part of your tetras take if it had a bomb or even just autobomb we would never see the vanilla kit unless you wabted to run some splash zones cheese
This is only a me thing but my personal biggest flop weapon was the sorella undercover... Like, I dont hate the kit but it just feels odd compared to splat 2's splat bomb + baller :(
I dreamed of splat bomb + inkstorm/booyah bomb since day 1 so that can also be a reason?
Im still scratching my head on why these Re-skinned weapons sucked donkey balls. Everytime we got a new season I dreaded the reused weapons as the DEV team kept screwing them up with some being OP and others super weak and bad specials. I to this day use a the Areospray (Gold Version) With it being maxed out at 5 stars :)
i thought this was going to be about teams-
LMAAAOO…
That could be a TH-cam idea 🤔
Bro's turning into prochara
Im the one & only Gus 💅🏽
Wiper deco was another overhyped weapon. S2 did a number on people.
The biggest WHAT?
a least all these weapons ended up being pretty fun, except ziny in my opinion, ziny in 3 is kinda sad honestly.
wait how can you say that s blast suck? do you really mean it?
i think its the third best blaster after costume range and rapid deco
Just because you think it’s the best doesn’t mean it’s won a lot of notable tournaments. That’s what I’m basing my list off of.
@@GUSplatoon doesnt that mean that no one is willing to give it a chance because of high stakes? i mean the s blast has both a long range blast and a short range blast and an absurd kit how can it be that much of a flop, at the very least it cant be as bad as youre describing it
Thats 100% true but when I just looked at how the weapon did in tournaments, it didn’t win as much things compared to all the hype it go.
DECAVITATER IS NOT A FLOP 😡
It’s ok Dynamo Roller User. The anesthesia from using decav will wear off soon. You’ll see the truth soon 👍🏽
@@GUSplatoonLOL
@@GUSplatoon he didnt watch past 10 seconds ☠
@@GUSplatoonima stringer main but I kinda think tri stringer was a flop because of the initial hype (this hurts as a bow main)
Stringer was in the honorable mentions.
Do success
Let’s see how successful this video is & I can take it from there.
@@GUSplatoon I think it’s a good video and will be successful
In ,y opinion i see a lot of these weapons, but that might just be cuz I’m S+0?
*competitive play* = *in tournaments*
@@GUSplatoon ye
Am i the only one confusedd not to see wiper deco
It won a couple of tournaments when missiles were good. I don’t what you’d like for me to say.
Yeah but it was overhyped to the point that people thought it would kill the game, maybe im wrong but i feel like when comparing expectations to results its at least top 5 for me
I balanced hype and competitive results so yeah. Just trying to be consistent across the board.
At the end of the day it is just a fun video containing your opinion
wiper is niche but still in the meta, it was played in the most recent area cup
