      Hi , how the clone wat for this ridiculous planet is going?
      I have seen a bass player on TH-cam, Ramcos, has a ridiculously low action, I would try to have the same on my bass but , I am worried about the risks.
      Any advice?

    This is a brilliant product! I picked one up last month for a Danelectro U2 i have, and wanted to dedicate to being a slide guitar. I dont use it as a lap steel style, and just use it like a normal round neck guitar. Works great, but Ill probably file it down a bit so the action isnt quite so high.

    Great vid. I am a slide player, normally open E or standard. I have my action set up so I can fret behind the slide. From what I could see in the vid, the action looked like it was too high to do that. If you are playing slide only it looks like a good gadget.

    What would help this sound better would be using your middle or ring finger between the slide and the nut to mute the extra noise in the background.

    Would have liked a tone comparison with regular slide playing, though I doubt there is a difference. That said, it's possible that due to that nut material, and the increased string height, that there is a difference.
    Thanks for the video, Andy.

    • @TheGuitarGeek
      @TheGuitarGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my ears it sounded great. A tone comparison seems a bit redundant plus I can’t play slide

    • @oldmanzen6682
      @oldmanzen6682 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheGuitarGeek Kind of my point though. Sure, it sounded great. However if you can get the same sound simply by using a slide, why would you bother? Unless you are specifically interested in playing lap steel.

    I've tried these and found them too wide so that the top E string is almost off the edge of the neck. Also it marked the fretboard. Better off removing the nut and using shims.

  • @TheBlaggers-uv7vc
    @TheBlaggers-uv7vc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    A bit of thick wire does the trick. Check out Gary Rossington playing Freebird.

    • @TheGuitarGeek
      @TheGuitarGeek  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That works but would leave an indent in the fretboard

  • @jeffreyeagen4896
    @jeffreyeagen4896 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So what you're saying is if your g string is loose you should extend your nut? Anyway, it sounds really good, but I'd rather have one guitar with a taller nut for slide playing. Looks like a lot of work putting that on and taking it off. Guess I'm just lazy.

  • @harcourtmudd

    Ooo my I tried that awhile back. On a Epiphone Les Paul Special. You need a short scale if you have one.. That turned into a deep dark rabbit hole. Found out David Gilmore did some Pink Floyd with one... Caused me to build a Lap steel with a Humbucker on a 23" scale. Turned out great. Even built a case for it.. I am convinced playing lap steel is harder than I ever thought. Tunings and sting selection is a whole new world.. A world that may not be easy for me.. I can build one better than play one..
    I think you need to show us how to play Chug Metal on a Lap Steel.... or Dimebag Lap Steel!
    Dude... what is up with the hair? Rumor has it you left your hair dryer on US 110 volts after NAMM and got back to the UK and used it on 220.. Is that why Henning is bald now? Animals at the end..

    An interesting video, funnily enough I tried to buy one of these a couple of months ago but I couldn't find anywhere that had one in stock, in the UK.
    I gave up and cut a small strip of maple, knocked the nut off my guitar then reinstalled the nut on top of the maple strip, it worked a treat!
    More importantly, what did the cat think about it?
