- In this episode we look at an electric Speedster build we completed a few years ago. This Porsche Speedster kit is based on a 1970 VW Beetle chassis. The kit came from Vintage Motor Cars and was modified to fit 5 Tesla Model S battery modules. The flat four engine was replaced with a Hyper 9 motor. The Porsche "Speedster" has always looked more beautiful than it sounds and looked much faster than it actually was... You guys have solved both of these problems! Nicely done. 👍🏻

I so want to do a countach lp5000ev conversion. Build it on a tube frame chassis with the entire pack of a plaid underneath.
Awd using the plaid wrecks powertrain components. Cfp body with 3d printed custom wide body kit, killer 18&20" deep dish wheels, all led lighting etc. 😎

Great conversion? How many KWH of batteries and what is the range? With the 2 speed trans, does that improve the range vs having a single speed? Love to see one with a Tesla model conversion!
I want to see more big American iron from the 50s and 60s being converted. Perhaps a 60s Thunderbird!!!! Also, I don't mind the mad scientist.
Upside, lots of room for batteries in the trunk and engine bay, rear suspension Is very basic so throwing a motor back there is easy
Downside; ungodly heavy for their size, mass is killer for range, power, cornering, everything
@@Ryukachoo You're right they're certainly heavy, although not as bad as you'd think compared to modern vehicles with all their structural reinforcement and tech equipment. It looks like the FE v8 in the Thunderbird weighs 650 lbs, I'm sure the transmission is another hunk perhaps adding up to 1000lbs you could potentially remove. The overall weight of the 2nd gen T-bird is listed as 4000lbs, so ya know, not bad in the grand scheme of things.

I would really like to see a kawasaki ultra 300 conversion that would be epic.
In the 70's we flew hang gliders in Santa Barbara and used a VW "Thing" with a custom rack to haul everything up the mountain. I think my dirt list car would be an EV West conversion of a Thing. (Ours had a thing's go better with coke bumper sticker). (It was a 70's Thing).
I'd really like to see a chocolate coloured upholstery on that. Any kind of light brown or tan looks a bit wrong to me

I drive an Aussie Ford Falcon ute and have often wondered how well it could be converted to EV. Lots of room in the engine bay for batteries as well as under the tub replacing the fuel tank. Presumably a Chevy Elcamino would be pretty similar in the US.

I'd love to see a classic MERCEDES conversion. I just happen to have a beautiful, Black 1995 E300 Diesel [120k orig. miles] close by if you're interested. Since you have Tesla batteries why can’t you install a Tesla charge port?
They could, but tesla won't allow it to use superchargers. The vehicle wouldn't have the proper communication protocols.
@@4literv6 Elon is allowing some other manufacturer to use the Superchargers, but I haven’t heard which. What was the range on the Speedster?
@@donelmore2540 so far it's only been small pilots in countries where tesla already has the ccs2 protocols on their sc unit's.
However supposedly a permit was dug up last month for a new huge sc station in tx. That has v3 sc with combined ccs plugs in the permit paperwork. So it's coming soon, I wonder if they'll limit it to only manufactures which offer the plug n charge ccs protocols? 🤔
