I was very fortunate to know Dave personally. He was kind, quiet, brilliant, generous, and of course totally jacked. I worked out in his gym during the early 2000s, and I've never seen a person in their 70s who had the physique Dave maintained. An inspiration to us all. I'm sad that there is (so far) very little activity on the Web paying tribute. Like so many true heroes, he made his mark on humanity quietly, and flew under the radar for decades after his retirement from bodybuilding. I'll miss him and I'll never forget him.
You were lucky to have known him. When i was in my teens , working out with a few friends I bought the Weider magazines, seeing Dave in them was a big inspiration for me he always looked great. I had the impression for some reason that he was a very nice guy.
Dave was a good guy. I used to work out at world gym in Santa Cruz. Then I would pick up his boxes for delivery from his house. That’s were he gave me a book 📖 and I still have RIP DAVE.
Si Marvel hubiese hecho una película de Thor ⚡ en los años 80's a Dave Draper si que le hubiera quedado como al anillo al dedo ser el Dios del trueno 💪🏻⚡
Thank you for posting this tribute to a great man and a great humanitarian. His books and weekly newsletters kept me focused thru my 50s and into my 60s. At 66 I still push the iron, ride and train horses, hike and do anything I want with no pain. I take no prescription medications, and the GF calls me her teenage lover. I owe my health, strength, and vitality to the inspiration and encouragement of The Blond Bomber. Thank Mr. Draper, may you Rest in Peace.
One more comment. First, thank you so much. You've made a beautiful tribute including footage over the span of his entire life. It brought tears to my eyes. Second, the pose at 4:25 is the pinnacle of achievement in bodybuilding: mass, vascularity, symmetry, and perfect proportion. Yes, many BBs are larger and/or more cut (especially today with the ridiculous glut of drugs available), but to have all 4 aspects dialed in? Reg Park and Frank Zane can compete with Dave. Nobody else can, before or after. That one pose sums up all that is noble in the sport.
Un gran Culturista, una leyenda ahora, sus enormes brazos son la máxima aspiración de todo culturista, un gran tipo de bajo perfil,, eso habla de la gran persona que era, su humildad y sencillez su marca registrada, Q. E. P. D....
Dave Draper trained with Arnold but was brutally honest about disliking Arnold's mentality of winning at any cost and how much Draper disliked what contests started becoming it was no longer fun and Draper hated the political crap of the game and was about training to be your best not for others to judge you for a trophy.
Dave was the most Rugged man to ever walk this Earth. He had the Ultimate Hollywood California Beach Looks, and he was completely responsible for the the public using the words Muscle Bound. Bodybuilders were all admired and Respected, because of Dave Draper, The Muscle Bound Super Star, with the greatest massive 21" Arms
Draper was extremely unhappy he was only paid $40 a week his whole career by Joe Weider had a bad drug @ booze problem he burned his home down making and using pcp . Sued Weider and would of received millions by the jury but settled for a measly $50,000 grand which put him in a worse depression not to mention he hated Arnold In the beginning Draper felt bodybuilding stopped becoming fun and became purely competitive under Arnold.
I will miss dave.
Dave was the coolest looking bodybuilder ever. Had the best back too. An amazing inspiration and a great man!

Dave Draper was the real golden boy of bodybuilding, a gentle giant. The epitome of masculinity .
One of the all-time greats. A nice tribute.

Thanks for your comment. Many bodybuilders were underestimated by the Weider family, unfortunately. But this happens in many areas of sport.
