- A look at a wonderful little Bible, printed by National Bible Press (the company that for decades printed Gideon New Testaments). This Testament, still new in its box, is very much like a deluxe Gideon Testament.

Just found your channel, thank you! Very cool find!
Thanks for watching! Glad you found me.

Wow, very cool find, and in the box! I also didn't know National made Bibles beside the Gideon Bibles.
I have an old KJV Gideons which I obtained from a thrift shop printed in 1956 by Collins Clear Type Press in Glasgow which is still in very good condition though the paper is a little brownish/yellowish. It does not, however, include the book of Proverbs.
The KJV carries with it the imprint/logo of an Authorized KJV.
Sounds like a wonderful thrift shop find.
Thanks Jose!
I generally find it in very bad taste for stores to charge anything for a Gideon Testament or Bible that was given out out free. How much more impressive that this store did not charge a thing for a deluxe leather bound Testament that appears to be published as a for sale item. Class act! I nearly freaked out when I saw what I initially thought was a Gideon NT in an individual box. They are shipped to Gideons 100 per case. And, uh...
I do not want to pick up the LargeXXX sized scoop of judgement here but I tend to think that Bibles are made to be read, not hoarded as collector items. Take the Testament out of the box and read it sir. Or maybe you could hand out your collection of Bibles to people who would read them and switch to bottle caps or baseball cards as a hobby.
Oh, there are Bibles coming into and out of my house rapidly. No worries on that front. Our church is connected with a ministry that distributes unwanted Bibles worldwide.
I'd be willing to bet there are more Bibles, by far, in America than there are Americans.
About a month ago I saw one of these small books. I didn't look to see if it was a Gideon though and now I'm curious. LOL Thank you for sharing.
Chances are it was, but: you never know!
@@ma-mo I was just happy to see scripture on the table. (it was at a college). 👍👍
That's a cool Bible. I wish I could read that size font. Do you have a recommendation for an excellent quality large print Bible or New Testament? My preferred translation is ESV, but I'm somewhat flexible on that point.
Funny you mention that. I've been watching out for a large(ish) print ESV also. I have two ESVs which (like almost all my Bibles) were thrift store finds, and - while I like that translation - the print is tiny and there's too much show-through in the paper.
Maybe someone out there has a recommendation for us both...?
@Colin V Thanks for the suggestion!
@Colin V Thanks, Colin!
What’s the size of the Gideon Pocket Bible.
I just found a hand size genuine leather Gideon’s KJV at a used bookstore. I can’t seem to find out anything about it. It’s a very rugged, grainy brown leather with a leather liner and it’s edge lined! There’s something similar to this I’ve seen here on TH-cam but that one is ESV and it’s a paste down liner and a glued binding. Mine is much nicer and seems like a collectors item.
Sounds like a terrific find!
Definitely. Some folks are interested in it on Facebook but I have no idea about its value. I’m not a king James version guy. So I’m wanting to let it go.
Is the Gideon on the right sturdy? I found one online and a bit worried about it being durable
It has a binding that's sewn, rather than glued. For this reason alone, it should hold up quite well with regular use.
Thanks for watching!
@@ma-mohank you! I found one at mercari. Very excited because it includes proverbs. The pocket Bible I have has only the New Testament and psalms.
@@ma-mo also, do gilded bible pages prevent wear and tear?
Not at all. I think they tend to accentuate wear and tear, actually. As in, make it more apparent.
@@ma-mo oh! I see..! Thank you very much 💛
Noticing "and" is missing between Psalms " " Proverbs
Printer charges by the letter!
Thanks for watching, John.
Are they still called Gideons in the United States. I think in Canada we now call them Shareworld Global or something to that effect. When I was in elementary school they came to our public school to hand out New Testaments. I thought they were a branch of JW.
Last I heard, they were still called Gideons here. They used to send representatives annually to my church to give a presentation, but that hasn't happened for nearly ten years.
@@ma-mo They get as far as giving out free bibles to us Brits at High school, but not sure about the rest of the world.
Is it a little strange that I like the box and the tailbands more than the Bible?
Perhaps a bit, but I can relate.
Gideon makes a leather cover that's given to their ambassadors in full size.
Thanks for the info! Would love to see one of those someday.
There's a review of one on TH-cam someplace, that's where I initially found out about them. I know 2 ambassadors so I asked them and have had the pleasure of seeing both of them. One in black and one in brown. I enjoyed the historic perspective, the build is well done with no frills. A red guild was probably the biggest feature.
Rusty Bible's has the review
@@Lyleartist Thanks! I follow his channel, so I'm surprised I forgot that. I appreciate it.
