Vishal Bhardwaj's adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet', Haider - a young man returns home to Kashmir on receiving news of his father's disappearance. Not only does he learn that security forces have detained his father for harboring militants, but that his mother is in a relationship with his very own uncle. Intense drama follows between mother and son as both struggle to come to terms with news of his father's death. Soon Haider learns that his uncle is responsible for the gruesome murder, what follows is his journey to avenge his father's death.
Haider key cast includes, Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon, Tabu, Irrfan and is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The film releases on Oct. 2, 2014.

I really love the interpretation of Hamlet's ghost in Roohdaar. The impact of 10 minute screentime of Irrfan with the character is such a long lasting. The entry scene, BGM. There's a lot to cherish about in this reinterpreted script writing genius.

In this song the place the holiest hindus temple is shown as Devils home and after that this pious place is renamed as shaitaan ki gufi....This is how unfortunate this event was....We lost our motherland in Kashmir which was our 5000 year old heritage and this martand temple which was attacked by invaders brutuality was again brutualised the same way in Haider movie and for us is the darkest scene of the bollywood....May all these face our curse the heritage we lost was mocked upon by these bloody rascals

Vishalji has taken one of the greatest plays and made it into such a great movie. He makes it distinct to Kashmir while still maintaining not only the plot but the feeling of the play. Gertrude/Ghazala was absolutely brilliant.
great movie. after a long time in fact for the first time truth was portrayed through Hindi cenima. I'm a kashmiri and I love Indian brutalities being highlighted through big screen.

What ancient? It has been nothing but ruins from the last 7 centuries. Even during the Sikh rule and Dogra rule (from 1819 till 1947) when Kashmiri Pundits were at the helm of affairs and held all powerful positions, they made zero efforts to revive the structure or renovate it. Now suddenly after Indian right wing's climb to power, they have started feeling sad for this structure and are saddened over it's condition.
