That big hole on Lake Poepple that you stopped and looked at. happened about the 20th march 2023 . Two cars got stuck for 2 days. I went through not long after heading west to east solo run. I took the diversion to the north. Wasn’t game enough to cross the lake. The track you were on wasn’t even there. It was so soft back then.

Pretty sure a video does exist of the rescue, it was Ronny Dahl "Chaos in the Desert, Simpson Dersert part 2".

Unfortunately not, Ronny’s was on the salt lake to the east of Poeppel This one was to the west

No it wasn’t. I went through on the 20th march 2023, just after the desert was open. Two cars got stuck there for 2 days. I went to the north bypass track to Poepples corner. Wasn’t game enough to cross the lake. It was 44 degrees when I went through. We were warned about it at Mt dare. Not to cross the lake.

      Thank you!
Don't have exact breakdowns but From Mt Dare to Hay river track by Madigan We averaged 12.9L
By the time we hit Dalhousie it had pushed up to 13.9L (i think seems i neglected to record it exactly)
For our whole trip between Mt Dare & Oodnadatta we did 13.1L for the 1100km (inconsistency between gps & car so not 100% sure on distance) but it was roughly 135L total used

Looks like you’ve had a great time in the desert. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Just curious, how long ago was your trip?

The fact you had traction control active while driving in sand, may be the cause of that noise which concerned you. Generally speaking, in all sand driving, I turn the traction control off.

You are correct, we discovered after the fact that the Hilux has two levels of traction control offness, we had only managed to get it half way off basically, we think the noise was most likely the abs pump kicking in

@fastaustralianadventures yeah. Lessons learned are lessons gain. Glad to hear it wasn't terminal

Awesome trip guys!!! What’s your opinion in doing the Simpson in late October from experience
    Cheers

Thank you! We did Poeppel corner last year in October. It was so unpleasantly hot instead of doing it over two days we did it in one. You could be lucky with weather though.
